Abstract

It had been done a biodegradation polyblend from blending polypropilene-palm oil-amylum with three composition of polyblend i.e polyblend A 80% polypropilene- 19.5% palm oil- 0.5% amylum, poliblend B 80% polypropilene- 19% palm oil- 1% amylum and polyblend C 80% polypropilene-18% palm oil- 2% amylum by B. subtilus and C. botulinum, time incubation was twenty five days. The characterization of polyblend before and after biodegradation has done with FTIR, DTA, Viscometre and tensile strength of polyblend. The result showed that Bacillus subtilus and Clostridium botulinum can biodegradate polyblend and make holes as well as chink on polyblend especially polyblend C, because it has more carbohidrat than polyblend A and B. Analysis from FTIR showed compatible of poliblend because it did not have a new function group and did not change of wavelength. Data of tensile strength showed lower value after biodegradation at polyblend C and from DTA and Viscometre showed lower melting point and lower average molecule weight, respectively.

Abstract

The thermal Charcoal for domestic used was crushed into powder and mixed with gravel. Four reactors of different proportion and size of charcoal and gravel were set up without vegetation. Sample of landfill leachates obtained from site of Pulau Burung Landfill, Penang, was introduced into the reactors. Ammonia, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and iron of inlet and outlet from four reactors were analyzed by standard methods. Result shows that overall performance of removing ammonia and iron were much better than COD.

Abstract

The Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) study was established on curcumin and its derivatives as glutathione S-transferase(s) (GSTs) inhibitors using atomic net charges as the descriptors. The charges were resulted by semiempirical AM1 and PM3 quantum-chemical calculations using computational chemistry approach. The inhibition activity was expressed as the concentration that gave 50% inhibition of GSTs activity (IC50). The selection of the best QSAR equation models was determined by multiple linear regression analysis. This research was related to the nature of GSTs as multifunctional enzymes, which play an important role in the detoxification of electrophilic compounds, the process of inflammation and the effectivity of anticancer compounds.The result showed that AM1 semiempirical method gave better descriptor for the construction of QSAR equation model than PM3 did. The best QSAR equation model was described by :log 1/IC50 = -2,238 - 17,326 qC2' + 1,876 qC4' + 9,200 qC6'The equation was significant at 95% level with statistical parameters : n = 10, m = 3, r­ = 0,839, SE = 0,254, F = 4,764, F/Ftable = 1,001.

Abstract

Bisdemethylaaptamine, an alkaloid naphtyridine with molecular weight 200 and formulae molecule C11H8N2O2 has been isolated from Bunaken Marine Park sponge Aaptos sp. Isolation was done by using several stages of column chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. Molecular weight of this naphtyridine alkaloid was determined by electron ionization (EI) and electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectroscopies and its structure assigned to be 8,9-dihydroxy-1H-benzo[d,e][1,6]naphtyridine by proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonances (1H and 13C-NMR).

Abstract

Synthesis of secondary alcohols compound from safrole and methyleugenol has been achieved through conversion of allyl group to alcohol.The reaction of safrole and methyleugenol with mercuric acetate in aqueous tetrahydrofuran, followed by in situ reduction of the mercurial intermediate by alkaline sodium borohydride produced secondary alcohol namely safryl alcohol (71.25%) and methyleugenil alcohol (65.56%). The structure elucidation of these products were analyzed by FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and MS.

Abstract

A triterpene ester saponin has been isolated from the seed of Barringtonia asiatica and its structure has been established by extensive application of high-resolution FABMS and two dimensional NMR techniques to be 3-O-{[β-D-galactopyranosyl(1→3)-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→2)]-β-D-glucuronopyranosyloxy}-22-O-[2-methylbutyroyloxy]-15,16,28-trihydroxy-(3β,15α,16α,22α)-olean-12-ene.

Abstract

The effect of initial concentration of Cr(VI) on adsorption to black water of Gambut, District of Banjar, South Borneo has been investigated, as well as interaction between Cr(VI) species and functional black water organic fraction.The initial work was optimization of Cr(VI) determination using UV-Visible Spectrophotometry with diphenylcarbacide as complexing agent and preparation of black water using mixture of 2% HCl and 5% HF with HCl-HF ratio of 1 : 1 (v/v). The quantity of Cr(VI) species adsorbed on black water was calculated by determining the amount of Cr(VI) species in solution before and after interaction. The functional groups in interaction between Cr(VI) species and black water organic fraction was studied qualitatively using infrared spectroscopy.The results showed that optimum condition for Cr(VI) species analysis using UV-Visible spectrophotometry with diphenylcarbacide as complexing agent was at wave length of 540 nm, pH 1,5, 15 - 60 minutes at which complex remain stable, and minimum mol ratio of diphenylcarbacide : Cr(VI) 45 : 1, and has a sensitivity of 1.134 mg/L and detection limit of 0.00495 mg/L. The analysis was not affected by the presence of Cr(III) in concentration less than 40 times of Cr(VI) concentration. After treatment with HCl-HF the quantity of black water organic fraction showing humic acid properties decreased 0,1998 percent. Organic fraction of black water used adsorpted Cr(VI)with capacity of 4,050 mg/g.

Abstract

It has been separated a flavonol 3,5,7,4'-tetrahydroxy flavone (kaemferol) from the methanol extract partitioned by ethyl acetate of the leaves of the fern Chingia sakayensis (Zeiller) Holtt. This was obtained as yellow crystals with m.p. 271-273oC. Characterization of its molecular structure was carried out by spectroscopic methods (UV, IR, 1H-NMR, HMQC, HMBC, 13C-NMR and FABMS). Kaemferol indicated the DPPH free radical scavenger activity in TLC autography.

Abstract

In an integrated controlling system of palm weevil, using of synthetic feromoid is strickly needed. The research is aimed to synthesize pheromone which secreted by the weevil, e.g. 4-methyl-5-nonanol (R. ferrugineus) and 3-methyl-4-octanol (R. schach) through Grignard reagent which formed in situ.The synthesis was proceded by retrosynthesis to determine the precursor, valeraldehyde. The precursor was reacted with Grignard reagent of sec-amyl magnesium bromide (R. ferrugenieus) and sec-butyl magnesium bromide (R. shach) which made in situ. Characterization of the synthetic molecular pheromone was performed by Gas Chromatography-mass spectroscopy and Fourier Transformed Infra Red. The bioassay of the molecule was carried out by olfactometer.The result showed that the conversion of the reactions were 51.28% (4-methyl-5-nonanol) and 85.90% (3-methyl-4-octanol). The character of physico-chemical and bioactivity of the synthetic pheromone are identic with natural pheromones.

Abstract

The susceptibility of Aeromonas hydrophila isolated from ikan baung (Mystus nemurus) to antimicrobial agents was carried out. The objective of study is to know the kind of antimicrobial agents for the control aeromonasis  of Mystus nemurus. Tryptic soy agar (TSA) plate consisted 106 cells/plate of A. hydrophila on its surface was kept paper disk consisted antimicrobial agent, than incubated on 30 0C for 24 hours. The results showed that from 10 isolates to be tested, 5 isolates were resistant, 2 isolates were intermediate and 3 isolates were sensitive to tetracycline and chloramphenicol respectively; one isolate was resistant, 6 isolates were intermediate and 2 isolates were sensitive to nalidixic acid. Minimal in hibitory concentration (MIC) of tetracycline and chlorampenicol to the sensitive isolates were 0.5 ppm respectively.
