International Journal of Chemistry Education Research (IJCER) is a peer-reviewed journal which covers all aspect of education, including chemistry education, physic education, biology education and science education. Abstract

This study aimed to address the persistent challenges of low student mastery in Grade 7 Biology by constructing and validating a Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) titled "Mission poCELLble" – Cellular Structure and Function. The development process was driven by the urgency to provide targeted support for students struggling with key concepts in cellular biology. A Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) for grade seven biology was the main objective of this study. The SIM was meticulously crafted based on the identified least mastered skills and the Department of Education's standard criteria for SIM construction. This research followed the input-process-output model of developing instructional material, utilizing two sets of questionnaires: one set for five identified experts and one for teacher and student users, each containing 19 statements tailored to their respective roles. Data analysis informed the construction of the SIMs, including identifying least mastered skills, assessing student-teacher agreement with the Kappa Measure, and measuring expert and readability levels with Cronbach's alpha and Flesh-Kincaid Reading Ease.The results revealed that the SIM content, pedagogical and technical aspects were “very evident” as rated by the experts. The internal consistency between responses are rated as “good”. These findings suggest the potential of the "Mission poCELLble" SIM as a valuable tool for intervention purposes in Grade 7 Biology classrooms. Further research is recommended to assess the SIM's effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy and motivation to learn mathematics are two important aspects of education. Mathematical literacy enables students to understand and apply mathematical concepts in everyday life, as well as think logically and solve problems. Mathematics learning motivation influences students' effort and perseverance in learning the material, improving academic interest and performance. The combination of the two is essential for educational success and the development of critical thinking skills required in the modern world. The objectives of research generally cover the following aspects Measuring Mathematics Literacy Level, Assessing Mathematics Learning Motivation, Identifying the Relationship between Mathematics Literacy and Learning Motivation, Recognizing Barriers and Challenges, Developing Effective Learning Strategies. This research uses the SLR (Systematic Literature Review) method by reviewing 16 articles. Data collection in this study was carried out by reviewing all articles related to Mathematical Literacy Ability, Learning Motivation, Mathematical Literacy Ability in terms of Learning Motivation published from 2019 to 2023. Based on the results of the study, it was found that motivation to learn mathematics plays an important role in students' mathematical literacy skills. Students with low motivation tend to learn by force, so their mathematical literacy skills are low because they tend to do problems procedurally without in-depth analysis. The implication is the need for motivational strategies, curriculum design, teacher training, literacy programs, and parental involvement.

Abstract

Teachers still face various challenges in implementing learning in the classroom. Some of them are students who are less active, lack of use of technology, lack of use of concrete objects, and students' social and science learning outcomes that have not yet reached the criteria for achieving learning objectives. The research entitled "Application of the PBL Model with Multimedia in Improving Class IV Social and Science Learning Result at SDN Nglanduk 2" aims to describe the steps for implementing the PBL model with multimedia in improving Class IV Social and Science learning result and identify whether the PBL model with multimedia can improve learning result class IV. The Problem Based Learning (PBL) model is a learning model whose application uses concrete problems to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills so that it can improve student learning outcomes. Multimedia can attract students' attention and make learning more enjoyable. This research was carried out at SDN Nglanduk 2. The classroom action research procedure used refers to the Action Research methodology, namely 1) Planning, 2) Action (Implementation of Action), 3) Observation (Observation), 4) Reflection (Reflection), which is carried out in 2 cycles. Learning evaluation is carried out after the material is presented to find out to what extent students can understand the material being taught. The evaluation results show that there is an increase in learning outcomes, namely in cycle I it was 40%, up 20% to 60% and cycle II, namely 60%, up 40% to 100%. From this Classroom Action research it can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with multimedia can improve social and science learning for class IV at SDN Nglanduk 2.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the increase in learning motivation in chemistry lessons using Quizziz interactive presentation media on the topic of buffer solutions, solubility, and solubility results. This class action research involved students of class XI MIPA 4 at SMA Negeri Kebakkramat. The Problem Based Learning (PBL) model is applied to involve students in solving real problems related to learning topics, encouraging investigation, critical thinking, and collaboration. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, with data analysis using quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques. The results showed that the application of the PBL model and Quizziz media succeeded in increasing student learning motivation with a success rate of 83% in cycle II. Indicators of learning motivation such as perseverance, persistence, preference for independent work, courage to find solutions, and ability to defend opinions, increased from cycle I (81.34%) to cycle II (83%). Evaluation of student motivation criteria also showed significant improvement from cycle I (47% excellent, 47% good, 6% fair) to cycle II (55% excellent, 42% good, 3% fair).

Abstract

This research aims to develop and test the effectiveness of a problem-based e-module assisted by a flipbook maker application for contract legal materials. A problem in civil and business law is something that must be studied by students in order to be able to resolve or solve a problem through the scientific method stage. This research uses the writing and development procedures proposed by Borg and Gall. The development study produced a product in the form of a problem-based e-module assisted by a flipbook maker with effective contract law materials. The product effectiveness test was based on the results of a large group test, namely the average pre-test score was 57.82 while the post-test score was 72.05. This shows an increase in the average obtained by students, namely 14.23.

Abstract

In this case, this research aims to determine the effect of using Quizizz as a learning media on the learning interest of Computer Education Students in the Linear Algebra course. The research method uses quantitative experiments. The research design used One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The subjects of this research were 38 consisting of 4th Semester Students of the Department of Computer Education, Dehasen University, Bengkulu. The instrument used 20 items questionnaire, the data analysis techniques used normality test, homogeneity test and hypothesis test. The results of the pretest and posttest questionnaires were 40% and 85% indicating an increase in student learning interest. The results of research using paired sample testing show that the asym sig. (2-laid) of 0.000 < 0.05 where t-count is greater than t-table 24.220 > 2.037 so that H_O is rejected and H_a is accepted. It can be concluded that the use of Quizizz as a learning media (X) has a significant effect on the learning interest of computer education students at Dehasen University, Bengkulu.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effects in physical chemistry class with the workshop sessions on measuring PKO viscosity by CV. Bina Agro Mandiri. The effects are evaluated through the enhancing of student's learning interest in the Physical Chemistry II class in Chemistry Program of the Islamic University of Indonesia, which presents a good avenue for this investigation. The study was conducted by classroom, practical and online action. The data were analyzed using a pie chart. Findings showed that the implementation of the practical was able to increase the student's learning interests. Through case analysis tasks, students participate significantly in the teaching-learning process.

Abstract

Science learning that integrates local culture and wisdom is an important approach that is to continue to be developed in the current educational context. Along with the growing need for qualified and competitive human resources, adjustments in learning are crucial to prepare students with 21st-century skills. This research aims to evaluate how integrating local potential in science learning to improve 21st-century skills. The method used in this study is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), with an analysis of 13 articles selected based on relevant research criteria and focus. The study results show that using learning media based on local potentials such as cultural traditions and natural resources has an important role in improving 21st-century skills, especially critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These findings underscore the importance of integrating local potential in science curricula to facilitate the development of essential skills in the modern era.

Abstract

This comparative study aims to compare the attitude toward lab work. It includes two student groups in Chemistry Department, Faculty of Education - Zawia, University of Zawia- Libya. The study includes first four semesters (FFS) students, and last four semesters (LFS) students. Their attitudes were assessed via a Google Forms online questionnaires, where sent to each group separately. The number of responses sent to the researcher was 61 for FFS and 52 for LFS. The study was carried out in the fall and spring semesters of the academic year 2023-2024. A qualitative research approach was adopted. There was a substantial difference in the percentage of questionnaire responses between the FFS group and the LFS group. This outcome supports the positive attitude toward working in chemical laboratories and highlights the benefits, which include helping students develop as professionals and gain confidence. These changes take place over the lab courses, reaching their highest point during the graduation semester when a qualified teacher produced, who after that imparts information to their students

Abstract

Chemistry practicum learning requires a comprehensive approach, which improves understanding of concepts and develops various essential skills needed in the professional and academic world. This research aims to develop a Guided Inquiry-Scientific Laboratory-based Health Chemistry module and conduct empirical feasibility tests. This module is designed with a guided inquiry approach integrated with scientific methods in laboratory activities. The practicum module was developed for second-grade vocational school students in health expertise with material covering colloids, hydrocarbons, polymers, biomolecules, and chemical separation. This development research uses the Borg and Gall model, which consists of planning, organizing, implementing, assessing, and analyzing data. This research was only carried out to the validation stage by material experts, media experts, peer reviewers, and reviewers (five Health Vocational School teachers). The assessment carried out by the reviewer includes eight assessment aspects with 30 assessment indicators. Data was collected through questionnaires, observations, and interviews. Data analysis was carried out descriptively, quantitatively, and qualitatively, guided by ideal assessment criteria to determine the quality of the practicum module. The research results show that the Guided Inquiry-Scientific Laboratory (GISL) based Health Chemistry practicum module that has been developed has a score of 132.52 with an ideal percentage of 88.3467% in the very good (SB) category. This indicates that this module is suitable for use in health chemistry practicum learning, and it is hoped that this research can be continued at the next stage.
