Abstract

The needs of people with cognitive impairment are rarely accommodated in the field of architecture and design. There have been a few standards of design in assessing the suitability of building design for children with the mentally disabled. Evaluation of the design standards for special school inclusion as stipulated in the Education Law No. 33 of 2008 in meeting the needs of mentally disabled students needs to be carried out. This research examined the school design standards for students with mentally disabled based on the relevant literature. The inclusive design proposed in this study can be used to assess the implementation of the inclusive design in meeting the needs of students mentally disabled at special schools. The results of this research add up to the references in the design literature that fit the needs of people with the mentally disabled. Keywords: Design criteria; Inclusive design; Mentally disabled; Special Schools.

Abstract

Gorontalo City is a developing city, has several public spaces to support all community activities, such as city parks, street corners, markets, terminals and buildings. As one of the efforts to provide public open space, the Simpang Lima Roundabout Area was built which has a positive impact on the development of regional and surrounding activities, the existence of this area is experiencing congestion caused by several factors, such as traffic density, the emergence of formal activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the pattern of utilization of public open space at the Simpang Lima Roundabout. This study uses a positivistic paradigm with a descriptive qualitative approach supported by survey methods. The results showed that this pattern of open space utilization occurred in a circular or radial manner and linearly followed the circulation path, the use of open space at the intersection of five detected was shopping, meeting and chatting. Keywords: Public Open Space; Simpang Lima; Utilization Pattern

Abstract

The high mobility of urban life requires alternative places that are close for recreation. Keren Mo'odu Park is the right choice to be used as a recreational facility because of its location in the Gorontalo City area. Keren Mo'odu Park is one of the most visited Green Open Spaces in Gorontalo City, this raises several problems including the cleanliness of the park which is not maintained, damaged garden lights cause visitors to feel uncomfortable because the condition of the park is dark at night and is often used as a park dating place. This study uses a rationalistic paradigm with qualitative methods and qualitative descriptive analysis techniques, aiming to evaluate the function of Keren Mo'odu Park as a recreational facility. The results showed that the function of Keren Mo'odu Park as a recreation area had been running well and was in accordance with the standard of green open space functions. Keywords: Green Open Spaces; Gorontalo City; Recreational Function.

Abstract

Educational buildings in Depok City typically have deep classroom plans, which pose a challenge in achieving good uniformity of lighting distribution throughout the room. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the integration of daylight and artificial lighting to achieve lighting uniformity, especially in classrooms of educational buildings in Depok City. This paper simulated the combinations of Light Shelves (LS), horizontal blind curtains, and artificial lighting dimming systems through Dialux software to explore and discuss the illumination distribution of daylight in the classroom. The combinations were arranged in 7 different strategies and were carried out in average sky conditions. The strategy simulation results show that lighting uniformity is optimally achieved in strategy 3 with 0.74 lux and strategy 7 with 0.72 lux. These results prove an increase in the uniformity of daylight in the classroom by 0.49 lux with LS and 0.58 lux with horizontal blinds but still requires artificial lighting with 50% dimming. Keywords: Dimming; Horizontal blind curtain; Lighting uniformity; Light shelves.
