Abstract

Teaching student with special needs could be complicated. This research aimed to define English teachers' challenges in teaching English to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This research was conducted at SLB Pelita Nusa Pekanbaru using qualitative methods within a case study research design. In-depth interviews with two English teachers, observation, and documentation were used as data collection techniques. Based on the results, teachers faced several challenges in teaching English to students with ASD that are closely related to the characteristics of the children themselves. The challenges could be regarding students' mood and emotional regulation issues, tantrums and behavioural issues, verbal communication barriers, short attention span and memory retention issues, students' repetitive and restricted behaviour, lack of motivation, and external factors such as parental influence. To address these issues, teachers used various strategies such as repetition in learning, using visual aids and technology, simplifying the instructions, adjusting the phase of learning, and collaborating with the parents. This research provides practical insight into teaching English to students with ASD. It highlights the necessity for teachers to be patient, creative, adaptive, and collaborative when teaching English to students with ASD.

Abstract

The role of speaking skill as one of the basic skills of mastering English is important to be given special attention, especially for EFL Students. The popularity of ELSA Speak as an application that is widely used to help improve speaking skills has led to a lot of research on the application. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research with the systematic literature review method to find strong evidence about the impacts of using ELSA Speak for ELF students’ speaking skill. The systematic literature review method process consists of defining the research question, implementing a search strategy, collecting data, reporting results with PRISMA flow diagram, assessing quality, and analyzing the results by narrative synthesis. As a result, the study found 7 studies that were in accordance with the eligibility criteria to be analyzed in depth. All studies show an increase in the use of ELSA Speak from various levels of education of EFL students (Junior High School, Senior High School, and University).  This application has been proven to be effective in improving pronunciation, fluency in speaking, grammatical structure, vocabulary mastery, and students' confidence in conveying ideas orally in English.

Abstract

This study aims to see whether there is an influence of the Picture And Picture learning model on the learning outcomes of mathematics on flat shape material for grade III students of SD Negeri 138 Palembang. This study is included in the type of quantitative research that applies the Quasy Experimental Design method. It was carried out in class 3-A which consisted of 22 students and 3-B which consisted of 24 students. The instrument used was in the form of essay questions covering 5 questions. This study obtained t-test results with a significance of 0.001 <0.05 which indicates that H0 is rejected and Ha can be accepted. So it can be concluded that the implementation of the Picture And Picture learning model has a significant effect on the learning outcomes of flat shape mathematics for grade III students of SD Negeri 138 Palembang. So the Picture And Picture learning model can be an alternative in learning applied by students so that students do not feel bored when learning and to determine the effect on students' cognitive learning outcomes in maximizing the learning process

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of innovation in the application of reading models and media which causes a lack of interest in reading among students in learning in class IV of SD Negeri Langensari 04. The purpose of this study was to determine the defference and effect of the Game Based Learning (GBL) learning model assisted by the Happy Reading Board (HAREBO) on students' reading interest. The research method uses a quantitative approach with Collaborative and Competitive Multiplayer Games consisting of 2 classes, namely class IV students of SD Negeri Langensari 04. Data collection techniques with non-test techniques include pre-test and post-test questionnaires, observation, documentation, and interviews. The data analysis techniques used are the Independent Sample T-Test and Simple Linear Regression. The results of the study showed (1) There is a difference in the use of the GBL learning model assisted by the Happy Reading Board (HAREBO) on reading interest between the experimental class and the control class, as evidenced by the results of the Independent Sample T-Test showing a significance value of <0.001 <0.05. (2) There is an influence in the use of the GBL learning model assisted by the Happy Reading Board (HAREBO) on students' reading interest, with the results of the simple linear regression test showing a significance value of 0.001 <0.05. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class, where the experimental class has an average of 80% while the control class has an average of 75%. These results indicate that the value obtained in the experimental class is higher than the control class. The use of the GBL learning model assisted by the Happy Reading Board (HAREBO) has an effect on students' reading interest by (R Square value 0.878 or 87.8%) the remaining 12.2% is influenced by other factors.
