Abstract

Oreochromis niloticus is an eurihaline fi sh which has good adaptation level of salinity. Increasing demand of Oreochromis niloticus and availability of salty water in Indonesia give opportunity to develop new strain which is more suitable. The aim of this research is to know the effect of different salinity to Oreochromis niloticus juvenile survival rate and different salinity that can be tolerated. Mean date of all parameters evaluated were sudjected to an analysis of variance (ANOVA). When signifi cant differences were found the means were tested by BNT at  level of signifi cant 1%.The result shows that salinity range 10 to 15 ppt can be tolerated by Oreochromis niloticus with survival rate level of 87,5 % to 81,25 % and 20 to 25 ppt give bad effect toward the survival rate level 25 % to 0 %.

Abstract

The research aimed to analyze fi sh catch, income, cost, and profit of purse seine fisheries in Juwana. Survey was conducted on 29 (twenty nine) purse seine owners as respondents, consisting of one mini purse seiners, five medium purse seiners, and 23 (twenty three) large purse seiners. All of them were interviewed by using questioners. The study showed that average total income per year was Rp1,603,020,400 for the large purse seiners, Rp924,444,000 for medium purse seiners, and Rp1,040,000,000 for mini purse seiners. The average of expense per year was Rp1,362,482,800 for the large purse seiners, Rp912,084,700 for the medium purse seiners, and Rp1,009,650,100 for the mini purse seiners consisting of fixed cost and total variable cost. The average fixed cost of big purse seiners is in amount of 17.5% from total cost (Rp238,392,800), the medium purse seiners is 19.8% (Rp. 180.578.100) and for the mini purse seiners is in amount of 14,8% (Rp149.750.100). The average of total variable cost from the total cost per year was in amount of 82.5% (Rp1.124.090.000) for the large purse seiners, 80.2% for the medium purse seiners (Rp731.506.600), and 85.2% for the mini purse seiners (Rp799.900.000). The net profit were Rp240.537.500 for large purse seiners, Rp12.359.600 for medium purse seiners, and Rp30.349.800 for mini purse seiners, respectively. The study showed that the Renevue-Cost Ratio is more than one, and there fore, purse seine businesses in Juwana generally are feasible to be developed. The purse seiners which were equiped with freezer technology generated higher net profit than others.

Abstract

Monogenean is a parasite group which most often causes serious disease in fish due to its direct life cycle, high reproductive potential, and high pathogenicity. The aim of this study was to investigate infection level of Thaparocleidus sp.onstriped catfi sh which infected catfi sh fingerling. Striped catfi sh fi ngerling with 5–10 cm in total length samples from three diferent ornamental fish supplier in Makasar were  examined. Sampling was conducted weekly for three weeks and 10 fishes from each locations were collected. Samples were transported to laboratorium with aerated plactic bags and transported to Laboratory of Fish Parasite and disease for parasite examination. Organ which examined were gills. Prevalence of Thaparocleidus sp infection in all locations sampled was 100%. Mean intensity of the parasite infection was 98, 58 and 70 in location I, Location II, and Location III, respectively. The high prevalence and mean intensity of Thaparocleidus sp. infection indicated that health management in the aquaculture facilities was not properly implemented and this parasite existance is one of aquaculture problems to develop catfi sh fulfi lling ornamental or consumption demand .

Abstract

Gouramy (Osphronemusgoramy) is an important fish comodity and preferred to be consumed by people. One of the limiting factor in freshwater aquaculture is bacterial infections. The objective of this research was to identify the species of pathogenic bacteria on gourami from Bantul Regency and to determine their pathogenicity. Eighteen diseased gouramy were collected from seven different fi sh farms. Bacteria were isolated from kidney and purifyon TSA medium. Characterization was conducted on the morphology of bacterial colonies and cells, biochemical tests. Koch Postulate Test was done to confirm pathogenic properties of the isolated bacteria. Pathogenicity test was performed by intraperitoneal injection of a serial doses of bacteria into gouramy and the Lethal Dosage 50 (LD50) was calculated. Twenty isolates of Aeromonas hydrophila, 5 isolates of Aeromonas salmonicida and one isolate of Vibrio cholerae,Vibrio anguillarum and Pseudomonas fluorescens respectively were isolated from and confi rmed as pathogen ingouramy. Pathogenic diversity was found among isolated bacteria, which a group of virulent bacteria as Aeromonas hydrophila GBNB, GGRB, and GCMA3 with LD50 values of 6.28 x 105, 2.09 x 105 and 5.37 x 105 CFU /fish; and a group of non virulent bacteria as A. hydrophila GKRA isolate and Vibrio cholera GPDA isolat with LD50 value of 7.14 x 107 and 3.45 x 107 CFU/fish respectively.

Abstract

Research for tanning fish skin nile (Oreochromis sp.) on bleaching treatment has been done. Concentration of peroxide as bleaching agent variated in 2, 4, and 6% (v/w) and non bleaching process as a control. As a nile Leather product research characterized trough physic parameter, chemical and organoleptic analysis. Result of nile leather product the optimal amount of peroxide was 4% which resulted in tensile strength of 205 kg/cm2, elongation of 84,67%, sewing strength of 117,29%, and rigid temperature of 84oC. Chemical properties for the 4% peroxide were 14.99% of water content, 1.65% of chrome content, 2.25% of ash content, and 12.90% of lipid content. Sensory analysis shows that nile leather in the same variable (4% peroxide) has smooth surface that most panelist valuated and it has scale tissue unique motif, shinning surface, elastic, soft, and meatless. The colour of scale tissue was a soft dark, but the most of panelist choose nile fi sh leather with 6% peroxide bleaching treatment.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the cost structure dan income of traditional salt farming at Gedongmulyo Village, Sub District of Lasem, Rembang. All salt farmers, account for 30 owners were selected as respondents and interviewed. The study indicated that respondents have varied farm land ranging from 750 m2 to 220,000 m2. The cost and revenue analysis were using farm land that was converted into one hectare per year. The total cost of salt farming was counted for Rp. 35,267,668 which mostly allocated for labor cost, account for Rp. 20,894,631 (59,24%). The total revenue of the business was Rp. 53,076,281 per hectare, comprises of revenue from salt production, amount of Rp. 41,308,681 and milkfi sh production account for Rp. 11,767,600. Therefore, farmer income was calculated at Rp. 17,808,613 per hectare. The study also indicated that R/C ratio was 1.50, which means that the business was worth to be developed and expanded. Nevertheless, there were few challenges, including the issue on climate variability, salt market and marketing, and business management. Appropriate policies and supporting programs are need to ensure the sustainability of the people business.
