Abstract

Policy makers in all countries have an orientation towards economic growth and identify the factors that influence growth. The research gap is applying short-term and long-term estimates of social variables to the economic growth model in South Sumatra Province. Research using dynamic panel data on the GMM system. The results showed that the human development index (HDI) as a proxy for human capital has a positive effect on economic growth in the short and long term, another result, the labor force, unemployment and poverty consistently have a negative effect on growth in South Sumatra Province in the short and long term. The implication of this research is to improve the quality and quantity of education and health facilities and policy for education to improve cognitive skills because it can produce a labor force with high skills. Sustainable fiscal policy and pro-poor visions and encouraging investment to create more jobs.JEL Classification C31; I25; H75To cite this article: Meilinda, R. P., & Kurniawan, M. L. A (2024). Abstract

The study examined the household division of labour, and household power relations in access to domestic water services in rural areas. This study was conducted in Manyoni District in Tanzania, used a cross-sectional research design whereby primary and secondary data were collected using  questionnaire  from 191 households randomly selected from two wards. In addition, Focus Group Discussion (FGD) method was used to collect qualitative data. Quantitative data were analyzed for descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentages and inferential statistics the chi-square test. Qualitative data were analyzed by using content analysis. The findings show that due to the traditional gender division of labor at the household level, women were the major seekers of domestic water for their households although some indications of equity in the household division of labor were also reported between boys and girls. Furthermore, most of the non-monetary decisions on access to domestic water were assigned to women whereas men were involved in the monetary decisions like paying user fees. It was concluded that gender relations played a role in access to domestic water services in the study area. It was recommended that the government should provide more improved water sources in rural areas to ensure access to many households, hence, reducing women’s burden of fetching water from distant sources and improving the welfare of women in rural areas.JEL Classification I26; J16; Q25To cite this article:  Mfinanga, F. Abstract

Tourism in Indonesia holds immense potential for bolstering national income and fostering economic growth. Agrotourism, an emerging sector, intertwines tourism activities with agriculture, exemplified by the guava crystal orchads in Padang Village, Bojonegoro Regency. Despite its promise, the full potential of this agrotourism destination remains untapped. A mixed-method approach was employed in a study to assess its sustainability comprehensively. Quantitative data was initially collected and analyzed using multidimensional scaling (MDS), followed by SWOT analysis. Findings indicate that while the ecological dimension demonstrates strong sustainability, other aspects such as the economy exhibit room for improvement. Consequently, various sustainability formulation strategies are proposed. The S-O strategy advocates collaboration with external stakeholders under favorable terms, while the W-O strategy emphasizes heightened promotional efforts and collaborative ventures to enhance human resource quality. Moreover, the S-T strategy entails intensifying promotional activities to counter competitors, whereas the W-T strategy focuses on enhancing accessibility, diversifying product offerings, and fostering collaborations to tackle challenges effectively. Implementation of these strategies is anticipated to furnish managers and policymakers with a pragmatic framework to enhance the sustainability. In essence, stakeholders can propel the crystal guava orchard agrotourism towards greater sustainability, thereby contributing significantly to the economic advancement of the region.JEL Classification A14; Q26; Z30To cite this article: Hartono, R. Abstract

With time it is getting more difficult to solve environmental issues as several people are unaware of the current environmental concerns. Using the ecological footprint analysis, people can know their daily use of natural resources. Therefore, this study aims to determine the ecological footprint of people in Solo, Indonesia. We applied the Ecological Footprint Test to the 152 respondents that consist of students, academicians and ordinary people. Through survey and questionnaire, this study found the relationship between different statuses of occupation and determined which category was more eco-friendly. Furthermore, this study hypothesized about the effects of education level on the use of natural resources and explained that educational level does affect the use of natural resources. Regression analysis was used to examine the determinant of ecological footprint score of the Solo people. The result showed that the estimated parameter of education has positively significant to the ecological footprint of the people of Solo. The higher the education, the higher the ecological footprint score of the Solo people. This is indirectly related to mobility and the goal of earning more income for those with higher education. Therefore, their consumption of natural resources is higher than that of ordinary people. The  economic improvement is directly proportional to increases in income and natural resources.JEL Classification P18; Q01; Q30To cite this article: Mulyawan, M. F., Antriyandarti, E., & and Son, H. Abstract

The study explored the relationship between community dynamics and child wellbeing in the context of climate change in two districts, Nyamagana and Ilemela, found in the Mwanza Region in Tanzania. This study used a mixed methods research design with 458 participants purposively selected through systematic random sampling. On the other hand, the study applied mixed methods research design (MMRD), which incorporated questionnaires, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews (KII) as data collection methods. The findings established that climate change negatively impacted children's wellbeing through higher temperatures, erratic rainfall, food scarcity, disrupted schooling, and increased diseases. The community dynamics identified that enhanced child wellbeing were strong local resilience and coping strategies, support groups, educational initiatives, and environmental conservation commitment. The study explored a range of community-driven strategies and interventions to enhance child wellbeing, including local adaptation practices, education, improved healthcare, infrastructure development, water conservation, and early warning systems. The research also underlines climate-resilient infrastructure as one of the explicit elements towards tackling climate-related challenges and promoting child wellbeing. The research provides priceless insights and recommendations to communities, stakeholders, and policymakers on tackling climate-related challenges affecting child wellbeing in the Mwanza region and the world at large.JEL Classification O13; Q00; Q54To cite this article: Joseph, L. Abstract

The formulation of tourism policy has given rise to a plethora of policy concerns in the tourism sector, some of which may endure. The primary obstacles confronting the provinces of West Sumatra are a substantial reduction in the number of tourists, short-term closure of renowned tourist destinations, and attendant severe economic consequences. It is imperative that the government adopt effective policies to promote increased tourist visits to the region to mitigate these challenges. In certain locales of West Sumatra, the risk of overtourism may arise, which could have detrimental effects on the environment, cultural heritage, and way of life of the indigenous population. This studyused a descriptive method to elucidate the characteristics of the population and the phenomena being examined. The objective of quantitative research is to gather information that can be statistically analyzed using population samples. The study participants were tourists who had originated in West Sumatra. The multistage random sampling approach, which involves the use of two or more sampling techniques, was employed for the sampleselection. The findings of this study reveal that government trust, policy responsiveness, level of satisfaction with responses, and transparency of government information have significant impacts on tourism policy. Tourism has the potential to serve as a potent instrument for promoting global sustainability.JEL Classification Q01; Z32; Z38To cite this article: Said, Z. & Syamsir. (2024). Abstract

Economic crises or shocks have become commonly encountered phenomena due to the competitive business environment and regional strategic changes.  This situation requires business organizations and economic entities to strengthen their internal systems and organizational culture to demonstrate resilience, enabling them to survive and take recovery actions promptly. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrates the collaboration between government, society, and economic actors to save lives, prevent the spread of the virus, and promote economic activity. This article explains how to build socioeconomic resilience through an organizational culture approach. Organizational resilience is built through long processes and time; and succeeds through challenges and adversity, so that the organization performs sustainability and resilience. Organizational resilience is significantly influenced by foresight, a flexible culture, networking, and the involvement of human resources in driving innovation.  Essential points reviewed include the role of human resource competency, leadership, social capital, and related issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). These points demonstrate how organizational culture enhances human-centered activities at all stages of the organization's developmentJEL Classification H12; M14; O20To cite this article:  Nugroho, I.  (2024).  Building socioeconomic resilience through an organizational culture approach: Lesson learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.
