Abstract

In the history of philosophy, Peripatetic has been acknowledged as the most influential philosophy school.  Even, in Islamic thought tradition, this Aristotelian school of philosophy has significant influence. Among Masysya’i philosophers, i.e. Peripatetic adherents in Islam, Ibn Sina is the most renowned Islamic philosopher who arduously develops Aristotelian thoughts. He is not only to copy Aristotle, instead inventing new thoughts in philosophy. Al-Isyarat wa al-tanbihat is one of vaunted Ibn Sina’s works. It becomes that last work before his passing away. This book contains the philosophy works he wrote beforehand. In the history of Islamic thought history, especially after 12th century, this work has significant and strong influence in Moslem philosophers. Nonetheless, many Moslem philosophers, both who support or reject him, commented (Syaraḥ) this book. These comments (syurūḥ) are then followed with some annotative elaborations like hasyiyah, ta’liq, muhakamat, etc. While the precious values of this book are beyond question, some commentaries and annotative works remain difficult to get since most of them kept in the form of manuscripts in various large libraries around the world. One of significant and rare manuscripts is that of Syarḥ al-Isyārāt wa al-Tanbīhāt written by Akmaluddin Al-Nahjuwani. This writing aims to introduce Akmuluddin al-Nahjuwani in his work titled Syarḥu al-Isyārāt and analyze its contents in brief.Ibn Sina, The Tradition of Isyārāt wa al-Tanbīhāt, Akmaluddin al-Nahjuwani, Syarḥu al-Isyārāt.

Abstract

This writing discusses the consept of tauhid in building science incorporated as part of al-Faruqi’s construction of Islamic studies. As a contemporary Muslim thinker, al-Faruqi maintains that tauhid is a substantial point in human’s character building in various dimensions. As such, this gives rise to producing the dynamics of tauhid meanings in all aspects of life. This kind of tauhid essence has to be persued at the ontological and epistemological conceptions. In order to explore such subtance, historical descriptive analysis approach is used so that the formulation of tauhid epistemology of al Faruqi could be known in detail throw light into the tauhid meanings in this life. The writer found that al-Faruqi’s scientific paradigm at the level of applying tauhid be demonstrated in the concept of science, hoping that it will enlighten human life based on the principles of Islamic creed or tauhid.

Abstract

Basically, Al-Qur’an as Huda (Guidance) has accommodated all of concepts, but the concepts are not mentioned in detail, still in seminal concepts. Moslem scholars have role to derive the seminal concepts to the scientific concepts. At least, al-Qur’an has mentioned 298 times in 270 verses and in 63 chapters. The term of nafs has many meanings according to al-Qur’an, they are, self or someone, self of God, person of something, spirit, soul, totality of human and the inside of human. Human as nafs is not only seen from outside aspect, but also must be seen from inside of it. It is because nafs as a motor of the human behaviors to make changes in life. As motor of behaviors, actually, nafs can move the human to do goodness and badness, according to the quality of nafs it has.

Abstract

Perennial philosophy, has developed into a perspective in religious studies, in order to find a point to unite religions, which leads to the belief in religious pluralism. In Islam they took the justification of the Sufis such as Muhyi al-din Ibn 'Arabi, Jalal al-din al-Rumi and' Abd al-Karim al-Jilli. According to them, these figures had talked about the point which could unite the religions. Therefore, this paper will explore the readings made by perennialists to find the point, which will reveal the validity of claims referred to the Sufis. In the end, it was known that many perennialists distorted the reading of Sufism texts so that they became in line with their beliefs. Whereas in reality, the Sufis did not initiate these beliefs at all, they even believed that only the Sharia of Islam was right and there was no way to Allah except through the path carried by the Prophet Muhammad.

Abstract

Tauhid sebagai suatu konsep keimanan dan keyakinan tentang Allah SWT merupakan pondasi bagi agama Islam. Dengannya seorang muslim mengenal identitas diri dan agamanya. Dengannya ia memandang dunia, kehidupan, ilmu pengetahuan, norma dan nilai, serta menjadi standar utama dalam menilai benar-salah sebuah kepercayaan dan keyakinan umat manusia. Namun terdapat banyak konsep seputar Tauhid ini. Para filosof, Mutakallimūn (Ahli Kalām), Ulama Ahlul Hadits memiliki konsep sendiri tentang Tauhid ini. Dalam mengkaji konsep Tauhid, para filosof dan mutakallimūn lebih mengedepankan argumen-argumen logika. Sementara itu Ulama Ahlul Hadits sangat kuat berpegang kepada makna literal Al-Qur’an dan Sunnah dalam mengkaji konsep Tauhid ini. Lantas manakah konsep Tauhid yang paling sesuai dengan Al-Quran dan Sunnah yang merupakan sumber sekaligus barometer utama ajaran Islam? Apakah Tauhid itu hanya bahasan tentang keesaan Tuhan dan sifat-sifat-Nya? Tulisan ini berusaha membahas dan mengkaji masalah ini melalui pendekatan tafsir analisis-tematis, pendekatan lingustik serta merujuk kepada pemahaman generasi awal umat Islam.

Abstract

This article discusses Sufi objectives in the interpretation of al-Qur'an. The Sufi interpretation nomenclature itself has many variants; some call it tafsir isyariy, tafsir bathiniy, tafsir faidhiy, etc. The Moslem scholars have different view on the kinds of the interpretation; some of them accept it and some refuse it. Those who refuse it usually equate the interpretation with the tafsir bathiniy which is mostly carried out by Shia’s followers. By referring to several books of experts in the field of ulûm al-Qur'an, the authors find that there are differences between Sufi interpretations and tafsir bathiniy. The difference can be referred to the purpose of each interpretation. This article discusses it and the purpose of each interpretation, so it is found that Sufi interpretation is not kind of tafsir bathiniy.

Abstract

The debate around Islamic belief (aqidah) among mutakallimun has never been resolved until today, especially about the attributes of God. The problem is on the manhaj used by each of them. Some of them argue that establishing the attributes of God must be based on naqli exponent only, while others argue that the naqli exponent only is not enough, but it still requires aqli exponent, so there is no tasybih (likeness) between God and His creatures. In addition, there are those who argue that it is enough to use aqli exponent only, so that there is no any indication of deciding qadim attribute to other than God. So this problem needs a serious study of the fundamental aspects of aqidah to establish the attributes of God with manhaj according to the understanding of Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah. Therefore, the researcher discusses the thoughts of Muahmmad Sa'id Ramadhan Al-Buthi regarding the characteristics of God which formulates both exponents of naqli and aqli in each portion.
