Abstract

One of the main problems faced by Moslems today is the westernization of science. Where science is demoralized and deIslamized, so the science that should bring peace causes chaos in life. From the existing problems, this paper aims to provide a solution by presenting the concept of  Islamization of Knowledge in the view of Ismail Raji' al-Faruqi. In this study, researchers used qualitative research with descriptive methods of analysis. Based on existing research, as will be proven later, that Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas was the main character who inspired al-Faruqi in formulazing the idea of Islamization of Knowledge. Furthermore, as a contemporary Muslim thinker, al-Faruqi argues that the Islamization of Knowledge is a positive response to the development of modern science that tends to be secular and value-free. Interestingly, researchers found that to broaden the idea of the Islamization of Knowledge, al-Faruqi laid out the principle of tawhid as a framework of thought, methodology and way of view of Islamic life. Starting from this tauhid principle, al-Faruqi was able to formulate a work plan with five objectives and twelve steps to realize the plan. Therefore, to look at what tawhid methodology looks like as well as the framework of Islamization of Knowledge that he has formulated into an important discussion that is not biased is just passed in this study.

Abstract

This writing discusses the consept of tauhid in building science incorporated as part of al-Faruqi’s construction of Islamic studies. As a contemporary Muslim thinker, al-Faruqi maintains that tauhid is a substantial point in human’s character building in various dimensions. As such, this gives rise to producing the dynamics of tauhid meanings in all aspects of life. This kind of tauhid essence has to be persued at the ontological and epistemological conceptions. In order to explore such subtance, historical descriptive analysis approach is used so that the formulation of tauhid epistemology of al Faruqi could be known in detail throw light into the tauhid meanings in this life. The writer found that al-Faruqi’s scientific paradigm at the level of applying tauhid be demonstrated in the concept of science, hoping that it will enlighten human life based on the principles of Islamic creed or tauhid.

Abstract

This paper discusses the interrelation of worldviews, science, language, and religion by comparing the secular, Christian, and Islamic perspectives. The worldview within which humanity exists plays a major role in shaping human perception. The Islamic worldview incorporates ethics into the body of scientific knowledge and entrusts humans with obligations toward the Earth, labeling them as Khalifah. Proceeding with this approach, the research undertaking a literature review and thematic analysis pursues the study of primary and secondary sources made up of the Holy Qur’an, Hadith, and relevant academic literature. By examining this Qur’anic and Hadith-based model of ethics, what is revealed is how Islam inspires an attitude toward knowledge acquisition in a manner that is moral in content, where scientific progress is weighed against social and ecological obligations. The findings stress the role of worldview in the formation of scientific thought, using language, and religious perceptions while focusing on how the Islamic worldview uniquely integrates ethics into science and knowledge. This work adds to a holistic understanding of the ways in which worldview serves as a guide for action in developing insights into the interconnection of faith, science, and ethics within the Islamic tradition.

Abstract

This article discusses the concept of tawḥīd (the oneness of God) according to Ismail Raji al-Faruqi and his contribution to the development of the new Islamic theology. This study forms part of the foundational research in Islamic studies within the broader effort toward reform and renewal, aimed at strengthening the Islamic worldview in the face of globalization and modernity. The type of this study is qualitative research using a descriptive-analytical method. The findings of the study conclude that tawḥīd, for al-Faruqi, is not merely a doctrinal concept meaning the acknowledgment of the centrality of the Creator in worship but rather, it constitutes a comprehensive system of belief that defines a person’s overall worldview regarding existence and life. Accordingly, al-Faruqi believed that tawḥīd, that is, the testimony "lā ilāha illā Allāh", though expressed in a brief and negative formulation, carries the richest and most profound meanings in Islam. In fact, an entire culture, civilization, or history can be encapsulated in this single phrase. Therefore, the researcher concluded that al-Faruqi’s concept of tawḥīd contributes not only as a new approach within Islamic theology but also as a methodology of integration signifying unity and harmony while rejecting all forms of division, contradiction, and dichotomy.
