Abstract

The use of radiopharmaceuticals in nuclear medicine increases the risk of radiation exposure for workers, particularly in the extremities and sensitive organs such as the lens of the eye and lungs. This study aims to determine the radiation dose received by three radio-pharmacists at the Nuclear Medicine Installation of RSUD A. W. Sjahranie Samarinda during the 2018–2023 period, and to compare the effective dose and hand extremity dose with the Dose Limit Values (NBD) set by ICRP and BAPETEN. The data were analysed using quantitative descriptive methods, based on readings from thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD badge and ring dosimeter). The analysis included calculations of effective dose, extremity dose, mean values, and standard deviation. The results showed that Radio-pharmacist 2 had the highest effective dose to the eye lens (0.073 ± 0.02) mSv and lungs (0.18 ± 0.04) mSv, while Radio-pharmacist 3 had the highest hand extremity dose (33 ± 30,03) mSv. All doses recorded were below the Dose Limit Values (NBD) recommended by the ICRP, i.e., 20 mSv/year for internal organs and 500 mSv/year for extremities. The variation in dose among workers was influenced by the duration and technique of work, body positioning, and the effectiveness of protective equipment. This study highlights the importance of optimizing radiation protection and regularly monitoring individual doses to ensure the safety of nuclear medicine personnel.

Abstract

Metal casting is one of the forming processes widely used in the manufacture of industrial components, including baffle plates installed in babcock and wilcox type boilers, due to its high flexibility and reliability. The study aims to compare the effects of annealing and normalizing heat treatment processes on the strength and hardness of cast metal baffle plates. The annealing process involves heating the material to a certain temperature followed by slow cooling, while the normalizing process uses air cooling at a controlled rate. The hardness of a material must be known, especially for materials undergoing construction during operation, while the flexural strength represents the maximum bending stress that the material can withstand under external loads without deformation. Hardness was measured using the rockwell hardness method, and flexural strength was tested using the three-point bending method. The results showed that the average flexural strength of the annealed specimens was 59 kgf/mm², which was lower than that of the normalized specimens at 66 kgf/mm². In addition, the average hardness of the normalized specimens reached 113.66 HRC, slightly higher than that of the annealed specimens at 108.22 HRC. These findings indicate that the normalizing process increases the flexural strength and hardness more effectively than the annealing process.

Abstract

Access to clean water remains a fundamental challenge in rural development, particularly in areas characterized by seasonal water fluctuations and fragmented supply systems. This study investigates household water consumption patterns, access structures, and affordability in Ledokombo Village, using a mixed-method descriptive approach. Data were collected from 10 purposively selected households through structured questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and participant observation to provide both quantitative insights and qualitative depth. The findings reveal that while physical water access is stable, with 100% of respondents reporting 24-hour availability, the community faces a significant economic burden; more than half of the households allocate over 10% of their monthly expenditure to water-related costs. Furthermore, high daily consumption levels often exceeding 300 liters per household reflect demand driven by both domestic needs and broader livelihood activities. The study also identifies that residents actively utilize adaptive coping strategies and water conservation practices in response to resource limitations and financial pressures. The results highlight a structural imbalance between water accessibility and economic affordability, suggesting that rural water governance must transcend infrastructure expansion. It is recommended that policy interventions prioritize tariff optimization, the efficiency of community based systems like PAMSIMAS, and the integration of water quality monitoring to ensure sustainable and equitable water management.

Abstract

The distribution of healthcare workers is a key factor in determining access to and quality of public health services. This study aims to analyze the distribution of healthcare workers in regencies/cities in East Java using a quantitative approach and spatial analysis. Data on healthcare workers (Environmental Health Workers) were obtained from each regency/city and analyzed using descriptive statistics, spatial clustering (High-High, High-Low, Low-High, Low-Low), significance testing, and spatially lagged plots to detect outliers. The results show significant variation among regencies/cities, with the highest concentration in Surabaya City and the lowest in Pasuruan City. Spatial cluster analysis revealed high concentrations in city centers and disparities in remote areas. Statistical significance and spatial outliers strengthen evidence of uneven healthcare worker distribution. These findings provide a scientific basis for planning policies to redistribute healthcare workers, support service equity, and improve service quality across regions. This research emphasizes the importance of data-driven allocation strategies to reduce disparities in healthcare access.

Abstract

Political speeches play a significant role in shaping public opinion, legitimizing government policies, and influencing international perceptions, particularly during periods of military conflict. This study investigates the use of speech acts in Donald Trump's speech concerning the United States' military operation against Iran by applying Searle's Speech Act Theory. The objectives of the study are to identify the types of speech acts employed, determine their illocutionary functions, and examine how these speech acts contribute to the speaker's communicative intentions. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach using document analysis. The data consist of 62 utterances extracted from the official transcript of the speech, which were classified according to Searle's five categories of speech acts and analyzed based on their contextual illocutionary functions. The findings reveal that assertive speech acts are the most dominant, accounting for 67.7% of the total utterances, followed by directive (17.7%), commissive (9.7%), and expressive speech acts (4.8%), while declarative speech acts do not occur. The predominance of assertive speech acts indicates that the speech primarily functions to present military developments as factual information, justify government actions, and reinforce presidential authority. Meanwhile, directive and commissive speech acts encourage public support and communicate future commitments, whereas expressive speech acts mainly establish rapport with the audience. The absence of declarative speech acts suggests that the speech emphasizes persuasion and political legitimization rather than institutional action. These findings demonstrate that speech acts serve not only as linguistic expressions but also as strategic rhetorical devices for constructing political narratives and influencing public perception. This study contributes to the growing body of pragmatic research on political discourse by illustrating the applicability of Speech Act Theory in analyzing contemporary presidential communication during international conflict

Abstract

Post-harvest drying is the single most decisive determinant of Arabica coffee quality, yet in the Gayo Highlands of Aceh Tengah (950 - 1,650 m.a.s.l.) it remains an experience based, weather dependent operation conducted largely on tarpaulins and open patios. High relative humidity, frequent rainfall, and low ambient temperature routinely prolong drying beyond ten days, produce non uniform final moisture content, and expose parchment to fungal colonisation and ochratoxin risk, causing smallholders to fail the 12.5% maximum moisture threshold of SNI 01-2907-2008 and to forfeit specialty price premiums. This systematic literature review, conducted following PRISMA guidelines on peer reviewed publications from 2019–2026, synthesises three research streams that have so far evolved in isolation: (i) thin layer drying kinetics of parchment coffee, (ii) Internet of Things (IoT) architectures for solar and hybrid dryers, and (iii) digital twin methodology in food and grain drying. The review finds that existing coffee drying IoT deployments are overwhelmingly reactive while validated kinetic models (modified Midilli, Page) capable of such prediction remain confined to laboratory dryers and are never coupled to field sensor streams. Digital twin research in drying has concentrated on grain and fruit, leaving coffee, and highland smallholder contexts in particular, unaddressed. From this synthesis the review derives seven research gaps and proposes SIKOPI-DT, a contextualised five layer Python based digital twin framework in which a modified Midilli kinetic core is continuously reparameterised by low cost IoT sensors (ESP32, SHT31, load cell) to forecast the time to target moisture content and to drive predictive supplementary-heat control under Gayo weather scenarios. Synthesised evidence indicates that such a system can plausibly reduce drying time by 30–50%, cut specific energy consumption by 15–30%, and improve moisture uniformity relative to open-sun practice. A three phase experimental validation roadmap and a smallholder economic feasibility analysis are presented, positioning this review as the theoretical foundation for a physical prototype in Aceh Tengah.

Abstract

A preventive approach in identifying potential hazards in satiun presses in palm oil mills is very important to prevent work accidents. This study aims to analyze potential hazards at press stations in palm oil mills using the Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) method, identify the causes and impacts of each potential hazard found, determine the level of risk based on the results of risk assessments, and prepare appropriate control recommendations as an effort to improve occupational safety and health in the mill environment. The results of the study showed that the level of risk at the press station varied from the Medium category (exposure to hot steam/oil and scratches on the work tools), High (slipping on the floor/slippery stairs and electric shock), to the Extreme category which is very critical in the form of the potential for workers' hands to be pinched on the screw press machineduring cleaning (possibility: 3, severity: 5). As an effort to improve work safety, integrated control recommendations were formulated which include the implementation of strict cleaning SOPs, the implementation of the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) system on machines and electrical panels, housekeeping improvements with the installation of anti-slip step nosing materials, and the obligation to use standard PPE in a disciplined manner.

Abstract

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth) distillation in small-scale industries commonly relies on conventional wood-fired drum boilers that produce unstable steam, consume excessive fuel, and reduce extraction efficiency. This study presents the design of a sustainable vertical fire-tube boiler to improve the thermal performance, operational safety, and energy efficiency of patchouli distillation. The boiler was developed using an engineering design approach involving thermodynamic analysis, structural and dimensional calculations, material selection, pressure-vessel design based on the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and three-dimensional computer-aided modelling. The proposed design operates at 3 bar and 133.5 °C, producing saturated steam at a rate of 0.10 kg s⁻¹. The calculated heat duty is 205.8 kW, requiring an LPG consumption rate of 0.0053 kg s⁻¹. The final design consists of a 1200 mm high and 750 mm diameter vertical boiler equipped with 26 stainless-steel fire tubes, providing an effective heat-transfer area of 1.74 m² while satisfying structural safety requirements. The estimated thermal efficiency of approximately 80% demonstrates a considerable improvement over conventional boilers by reducing fuel consumption and promoting cleaner combustion. Overall, the proposed boiler provides a compact, safe, and energy-efficient steam generation system suitable for sustainable modernization of small-scale patchouli distillation.
