Abstract

As a pioneer of urea fertilizer producer in Indonesia, PT. PUSRI is committed to realizing a sustainable fertilizer industry. Currently, PT. PUSRI has several problems which are 25% higher natural gas consumption due to the over 43 years old factory, increased investment and operational costs for old factory equipment, and spare parts that are expensive and difficult to source. For more efficient operation, PT. PUSRI plans to replace the plant and proposing 3 alternative locations, they are IA and IB on the East and West Sides of the Tanjung Api-Api area, and location II that is located in the PT. PUSRI area. To determine the most prospective location, each location needs environmental assessment. This study is using the SWOT analysis which will then be scored to show quantitative results. The results of the Strength analysis show that location II has a better score since it has a buffer zone as well as flora and fauna conservation. In the Weakness analysis, the IA and IB locations have shortcomings such as the inadequate raw water treatment technology. Location II has a disadvantage because it does not have domestic and industrial wastewater treatment technology. The results of the Opportunity analysis for IA and IB locations are considered to have more opportunities compared to location II. For Threat analysis, locations IA and IB are considered to have more challenges. One of which is the water body capacity to accept waste loads.

Abstract

The problem vegetable waste from Pasar Mantung and the large amount of manur waste from cattle farms that are dumped into the river are the reasons for the government of Kabupaten Malang to process the waste into methane gas to produce electricity. Through the Integrated Resource Recovery Center (IRRC) development program with UNESCAP (Lorenzo Santucci, Sustainable Urban Development Section Environment and Development Division), food waste from Pasar Mantung and manure waste are processed using anaerobic biodigester to produce biogas. According to the literature, the anaerobic digestion process from food waste and cow manure is capable of producing 70% methane gas. IRRC has the potential to generate electric power of up to 100,000 KVA. However, in its operation, IRRC encountered problems where many of the vegetable waste are coated with white cement as a preservative. This affects the draining period of the biodigester unit. Based on the results of the calculations in this study, the biodigester unit in the IRRC Mantung Market needs to be drained in 2023.

Abstract

The rapid growth of population, industry and offices has increase water consumption. One of the government’s efforts to reduce water consumption stated in the Presidential Instruction No. 13/2021 which regulates about water saving program in governmental office buildings. The Department of Transportation of Kabupaten Pasuruan does not have a water saving program yet. The purpose of this study is to identify water use and the efforts that should be taken in water saving program in the Department of Transportation of Kabupaten Pasuruan office building. This study is carried out through a field study with direct interview and observation. A water saving strategy is then planned by considering the management and technological aspects that also include financial efficiency estimation. The result of this study shows that the efficiency of water saving in stage 1 (2021 – 2022) by making management recomendations, repairing leaking pipes and faucets, for PDAM water is 20.6% and for well water is 20.69%. In stage 2 (2023 – 2024) by changing the squat toilet to a toilet flush the estimated efficiency for PDAM water is 34% and for well water is 20%. In stage 3 (2025 – 2029) by installing water meters and use of rainwater the estimated effieciency for PDAM water is 4%. Stage 4 (2030 – 2032) by recycling domestic wastewater the estimated efficiency for PDAM water is 34%. Estimated fnancial efficiency per month that can be obtained in stage 1 is Rp. 678.298, stage 2 is Rp. 246.291, stage 3 is Rp.43.149, and stage 4 is Rp 371.901.

Abstract

Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has a total of 54 laboratories spread across four faculties and the Directorate of Research and Community Service of ITS (DRPM) laboratory. All laboratories are actively used for experiments and research. These activities certainly produce waste. Waste generated from activities in the laboratory is categorized as hazardous and toxic waste which in its management has special provisions. Currently, each laboratory already has a storage system for its waste, but not all of them meet the standards and requirements in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. Several departments at ITS already have special WWTPs for laboratory waste but have not operated properly. In addition to waste from laboratory activities, ITS also produces specific types of hazardous waste. The waste is generated from office activities and student activities. Specific waste generation at ITS includes electronic waste and waste containing hazardous waste such as lamps, printer cartridges, batteries, and used packaging containing B3 waste. This research aims to support policy making which final result is the design of hazardous and toxic waste transfer station according to the needs and the amount of waste generated by each unit. The design is also equipped with certain facilities, such as standardizing safe packaging/containers for various characteristics of hazardous and toxic waste, laboratory waste safety storage racks, monitoring system, SOP (Standard Operating Procedure), providing labels and symbols according to waste characteristics, good ventilation, spill collection channels, as well as HSE support facilities (PPE box, first aid kit, emergency eye wash, emergency body wash, fire extinguisher).

Abstract

Adsorption research has been conducted using three types of adsorbents, i.e. SBE, ZnO, and SBE/ZnO for rhodamine B removal. Two research parameters used in this study are dark and light experimental conditions, as well as the initial concentration of rhodamine B solution. The effect of ambient light needs to be studied considering that ZnO is a photocatalyst material. The composite process in this study used SBE activation methods (maceration and acidification), and sol gel method composite synthesis. It has been proven that ambient light affects the performance of SBE/ZnO adsorbent by increasing the adsorption ability by 1.6 mg/g when compared to adsorption in the dark. The adsorption isotherm model analysis corresponds to the Langmuir model with the parameter Qm (maximum adsorption capacity) of SBE/ZnO as 147.05 mg/g.
