Abstract

KH. Hasyim Asy'ari is a national Islamic figure who existed in the early 20th century and contributed greatly to the Indonesian nation. His real contribution to the progress of Indonesian Muslims is the birth of the Nahdlatul Ulama organization which still exists and has many followers. This paper will describe  KH. Hasyim Asyari’s thought about unity in the book Al Muqaddimah Al-Qanun Al Asasi Li Jam'iyyah Nahdlatul Ulama 'as well as the historical socio-conditions that lie behind this thought. The idea of unity is the central idea in the book, and it included national unity and religious unity. His thought in this book is motivated by the social conditions that occurred at that time. The condition of the Indonesian nation being colonized by the Dutch is the most dominant social condition. The other social conditions are the religious social conditions that occur such as the emptiness of the leadership of the traditionalist Islam and the phenomenon of renewal in Islam

Abstract

In the 21st century, the media is increasing rapidly and requires a specific response from anthropology studies. Not only does the media bring with implications for changes in the process of production and consumption of culture, but also changes to its viewpoint and approach. It's not enough if the media was studied only with a classical perspective that only positioned the media as a cultural communication agent, or otherwise the media is approached with the effects study. However, the media also needs to be recognized with a more progressive perspective that positions the media as an agency in cultural production practices. Based on the idea, this paper provides provocation through Amirudin's research (2016) which tried to present a new perspective in media studies

Abstract

The study of Literature and Cultural studies has a touch because both focus on the "text" of the culture. Thus, the textual approach becomes one of the methods in both research. Aspects of cultural relation and power that exist in pop culture are the driving factors of their contact. Articulation representation becomes an important issue between the two.

Abstract

The Orang Rimba are one of the hunter-gatherer groups remaining in Sumatra. Their livelihoods are based on managing the forest in which they live. They follow the tradition of natural resource management that is based on non-wood forest products (Ø. Sandbukt, 1988). State policies that focus on economic development since the New Order regime have ultimately affected their lives. Many forest areas and the territories in which they practice nomadism are being converted into plantations, agricultural land, and residential development, which all contribute to the condition of deforestation. State policy also does not favor the Indigenous people. If we look at spatial development in Jambi over the past 25 years, the allocation of land for other uses, such as residences, estates, and physical development, has shown little regard for the indigenous people who live in the forest region. Orang Rimba have no area left in which to roam and continue their lives as traditional hunters and gatherers. Cut off from their cultural roots, they cannot any longer live in accordance with their culture and tradition. As a group, they suffer both physical and socio-cultural displacement. Orang Rimba react to this situation in different ways to transform their livelihoods into a survival mode in order to face the everyday reality of accelerated deforestation. Under these new circumstances, Orang Rimba livelihoods can be  regarded as ‘tacit resistance’ or, to use James Scott’s term, a ‘hidden transcript’ of the weapons of the weak(Scott, 1985). They use a variety of ways to make a living, both economic and sociocultural. NGOs also have a prominent role to support the Orang Rimba. NGOs assist the Orang Rimba to put themselves in a position parallel to other communities.  This paper will look at the impact of Jambi spatial policies that have been unfavorable to Indigenous People and how the Orang Rimba respond to them

Abstract

It is increasingly clear that to understand religion in the 21st Century we must also understand media and the ways that religions are being remade through their interaction with modern media. Culture… is that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, law, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society. Mass media means technology that is intended to reach a mass audience. It is the primary means of communication used to reach the vast majority of the general public…. mass media of communication: the techniques and institutions through which centralized providers broadcast or distribute information and other forms of symbolic communication to large, heterogeneous and geographically dispersed audiences
