Abstract

Background: The number of infant mortality in Banjarnegara district became the highest compare with other districts in Central Java in 2012. In the last 5 years, infant mortality rate in this district has not been significantly declined. This study aims to analyze mother’s characteristics and some risk factors associated to infant mortality in Banjarnegara.Method: This study is survey with case control approach, sample consists of 47 mothers of having infant death before aged 24 days and 47 mothers as a control. Sample has been selected using purposive sampling. Primary data were collected by using face to face interview with questionnaire and secondary data collected based on mother health’s book record in health center. Data was analyzed by frequency distribution and Chi- Square test.Results: The Result showed that the risk factors which associated to infant death were baby with delivery complication, mother with history of anemia, baby with underweight birth, baby with asphyxia, congenital illness and premature birth. Whilst mother’s age, mother’s knowledge mother’s education, parity, mother’s weight, upper arm circumference of mother, mother with chronic diseases history, and bleeding experience during pregnant, hypertension, birth attendant, and mother’s literacy had no significant association to infant death. This study recommends that health provider (especially village midwife) of health center have to prevent the risk factors of infant death by visiting mother with some risks intensively and routinely including Fe provision. The mother with some risks has to visit health center or health service in their village to check their infant.Keywords: infant death, mother risk characteristics, risk factors

Abstract

Background: Prediabetes status describes as the condition of blood glucose level above normal but insufficient to be diagnosed as diabetes. The stage of prediabetes is a critical condition of blood glucose level, but could reverse to be normal again if healthy lifestyle is routinely performed. In USA one of three people diagnosed with prediabetes. But most people did not realize that they had prediabetes history. The increasing number of prediabetes occurs due to the absence of typical symptoms. If prediabetes detected earlier, the rate of diabetes mellitus could be prevented. This study aims to examine some behaviors that affect the prediabetes status of patients in Pati II health center. Method: This is an explanatory research with cross sectional approach. Samples were rucruited using inclusion criteria such as aged 40–59 years, not diagnosed as diabetes, abdominal circumference more than 90 for men and 80 for women. There were 117 respondents involved in this study.   Results: This research showed that the number of respondents with prediabetes status was 39.3%. Respondents with blood glucose level ranged more than 200 mg/dl were 6%. The variables that influence the prediabetes status of the respondents were Body Mass Index with OR 3.591 (p value 0.011), diet pattern with OR 2.435 (p value 0.044), and smoking habit or passive smoking with OR 2.493 (p value 0.046). This study recommends to prevent the prediabetes to be diabetes, needed the socialization of healthy lifestyle to the community and early detection of prediabetes. Early prevention includes changes to people healthy lifestyles such as maintaining healthy body weight, doing physical activity routinely, healthy eating patterns, avoiding cigarette smoke and smoking habits.Keywords: prediabetes, BMI, diet, smoking

Abstract

Background: Based on data from the Sukoharjo District AIDS Commission in 2017, MSM is the highest HIV risk group. Voluntary Counselling and Test is one of the public health strategies to do early detection and as an entry point for all HIV / AIDS health services. This study aims to describe the cause of MSM behavior on HIV test in VCT Clinic of Health center as well as in hospital in Sukoharjo.Method: This is a qualitative research using case study approach, involving five MSM that have to be interviewed deeply in terms of their behavior to routine HIV test. Two peer and outreacher also have been involved to be as triangulation informants. Informed consent was provided to the informants and signed it before interviewing them.Results: The results showed that all MSMs have ever had HIV test that were conducted by VCT mobile in their own community, but only four MSMs repeated it routinely. The MSMs who were test routinely every 3 months, have high perceived susceptibility and seriousness in terms of HIV/AIDS disease, and have higher perceived benefits and lower perceived barriers, including have many external cues to action and higher self efficacy. The underlying factor to conduct routine test was certainly peers support and high self efficacy. Therefore, this study suggested that improve self efficacy of MSM by reducing stigma and discrimination in health services and peer encouragement to MSM in doing test routinely should be important.Keywords: HIV/AIDS, Men Seks with Men, Voluntary Counselling and Test, health belief model

Abstract

Background: People with epilepsy needs to improve their quality of life. Stigma plays an important and significant role in decreasing the quality life of epilepsy patients. Factors that affect the stigma towards epilepsy patients in academic community has not been studied currently. This study aims to examine the internal and external factors which influence to the stigma towards epilepsy patients in private university in Semarang.Method: This study employs an observational technique using a cross-sectional approach by selecting 236 individuals from the academic community at aged 18 or older. Sociodemographic data and external and internal factors data were collected by face to face interviews. Whereas, the stigma was measured based on stigma scale.Results: Research findings revealed that 54.5% of the respondents give stigma with the score >20.73. The multiple logistic regression test revealed that factors influence the stigma were as follows, people/respondents had an experience of seeing epileptic seizures are more likely to have in giving stigma as much as 1,8 times compare with inexperience of seeing epileptic seizures (OR= 1.86), and having relatives/peers with epilepsy as protective variable of giving stigma (OR= 0.45). Education and socialization are necessary to be provided to the community in order to improve knowledge and positive attitudes and reduce stigma.Keywords: Stigma, epilepsy, quality of life, people with epilepsy

Abstract

Background: Filariasis is chronic infectious disease due to filariasis worm infection which transmitted through mosquitoe bites. There were 241 districts as filariasis endemic districts in Indonesia. More than 50% of the population in endemic areas are potential to contract with this disease. High prevalence of filariasis cases, can cause the increasing mortality cases if the disease did not treat it properly and prevent it early. There were 21 new cases found and three cases of them have died. This study aims to analyze the supporting factors influence to prevention behaviour of filariasis.Method: This study is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design involved 178 respondents as total sampling. The people who live surrounding the filariasis sufferer (≤ 100m) were recruited as a sample. Data collected using face to face interview by standard questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate, Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression.Results: The results shows that the support of family, neighbors, and community leaders were not significant associated to the filariasis preventive behavior of respondents (P value> 0.05) while the support of health workers and the exposure of health promotion programs were significant associated the filariasis prevention behavior of the respondents. According to multivariate analysis, exposure on health promotion programs and supporting from health provider influenced the prevention behaviour of respondents with Odds Ratio 11.237 and p value 0.023. The role of health providers in the prevention programs to the community was greatly important to improve knowledge, attitude, and people behaviour to prevent this disease. To reduce disease incidence is needed community empowerment program to improve community participation in preventing disease.Keywords: filariaris, supporting factors, behaviour of preventing filariasis

Abstract

Background: Sukoharjo Regency is ranked as the four highest positive IVA in Central Java with 19.35% of fertile women have IVA tes positive. This percentage has exceeded the target set by Ministry of health as many as 3%. The lowest of IVA test visits in this Regency was in sukoharjo subdistric which only 47 fertile women (0,19%) has been tested. This research aims to exlplore the perceptions of fertile women in terms of IVA test based on health belief model theory.Method: The research employs qualitative method with case study approach. In-depth interviews were conducted to 14 fertility women and their husbands. One midwife also has been interviewed who was provider of IVA test in Sukoharjo Community Health Centers as an informant triangulation.Results: The results showed that the majority of fertile women has not been tested. The incomprehensive information about IVA test exposure is as the cause of the women didn't want to do the test. Lack of knowledge about the process of IVA test, feel fear and shame including feeling against to religion principles as the inhibitor factors to do test. Beside the need complete socialization from health provider and husband’s support and friend make women easier want to do a IVA test. This study recommends providing complete information to fertile women and their husbands’ by health provider as the key factor to improve the IVA test among fertile women.Keywords: Servical Cancer, women fertile age, visual inspection with acetic acid (IVA)
