Abstract

Social support is an essential factor that affects mental health. In the last decade, many studies have been conducted in Indonesia to examine the relationship between social support and mental health. This study aims to investigate the effect size of the relationship between social support and mental health in a study conducted in Indonesia. The meta-analysis research method is used to analyze research conducted from 2012 to 2022. Researchers search through Publish or Perish, Google Scholar, SINTA, Garuda Portal, and Moraref. The keywords used to assist in the search for past research were mental health and social support. Thirty-two studies are included in this meta-analysis study. The data collected in this study are correlation test data and the number of research subjects. Researchers used the JASP application to analyze the random effects model. The results showed that the mean effect of the 32 studies was -0.566, indicating the effect of high social support on mental health. Studies have no publication bias and have heterogeneous effect sizes. Due to the relatively high correlation effect between social support and mental health, it is necessary to predispose to higher social support to prevent mental health problems.

Abstract

His study aimed to develop an instrument that will be used to measure the assertiveness of senior high school students. This quantitative study involved 300 senior high school students in Aceh. Based on an analysis of the relevant literature, this study developed 38 items that collectively described assertiveness. Data was collected using a assertiveness scale and analyzed using the Rasch model. The results show that 1) Cronbach's alpha value is 0.83 which means the interaction between item and person is in the very good category, 2) the item reliability coefficient is 0.99 where the item belongs to the special category, and 3) the person reliability coefficient is 0.83 which means that students respond consistently to each item. Based on the results above, we can see that 37 valid items and the other is invalid. Overall, it can be concluded that the assertiveness scale has good psychometric properties, and it can be used by counselors or counseling guidance teachers to measure students' assertiveness.

Abstract

Mental health is important for the success and livelihood of college students. Studies show that college student undergoing online learning has poor mental health. Trait mindfulness has been shown to improve mental health. However, there hasn’t been any study examining the effect of trait mindfulness on mental health in college students currently undergoing online learning. This study attempts to examine whether trait mindfulness affects the mental health of college students undergoing online learning. A quantitative study was done using 122 college students undergoing online learning as participants recruited using the accidental sampling technique. This study uses Mental Health Continuum- Short Form (MHC-SF) and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS). Data analysis was done using simple linear regression in IBM SPSS v23. The analysis revealed trait mindfulness improved the mental health of the participants. This proved that trait mindfulness effect on mental health also applied to college students currently undergoing online learning.

Abstract

This study is aimed to describe the extent to which the sense of community of Paiton Fisherman under the nurture of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) toward the existence of TNI AL Installations. The well-being of the Fisherman community covers individuals and groups due to collective activities and Government development programs. This study uses a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews with five people and 5 TNI AL military personnel in Pesisir-Sumberanyar village, Paiton-Probolinggo. The result: 1) membership, 2, influence, 3) sharing of emotional experience, 4) integrity and the fulfillment of needs (security, pride, and economy). A sense of community facilitates active participation and reinforces social capital toward community development. TNI AL institutions are suggested to encourage the Fisherman community to synergize for TNI AL activities. Selecting respondents with more variant backgrounds will enrich the research results for the following research.

Abstract

First-year university students experience transition periods from high school to college level. Despite academic needs, first-year students in the COVID-19 pandemic also face new challenges, such as different peer networks, financial changes, and adaptation. Since resilience is defined as the ability to adapt successfully to pressure and challenges, it is essential to determine what psychological factors contribute to enhancing it. One of the factors related to life adaptation is optimism. Hence, this study aims to observe the relationship between optimism and resilience among university students. The sample comprised 420 first-year students from the UIN Suska Riau (Pekanbaru). Participants completed the CD-RISC Scale and Life Orientation Test (LOT-R). This study performed a linear regression analysis and captured that optimism explained 14.6% of resilience (R²= .146, β=48.163). Thus, identifying the factor influencing students’ adjustment to college life can develop an intervention to help students face this life transition.

Abstract

Career choice is an individual's ability to determine one of several choices related to a future career. The evaluation of career choice instruments helps students in determining their career choices based on their personality and potential. However, the limitations of career choice instruments encourage researchers to develop career choice instruments that measure students' abilities to determine the direction of their career choices. This study aims to develop and validate a career choice instrument using the RASCH model. The participants in this study were 213 students (100 males and 113 females) at the senior high school level aged 14-16 years (mean=0.80 and SD=0.83). The results showed that Cronbach's Alpha was in the very good category (0.83). The reliability value of people is in a good category (0.83) and the reliability of goods is in a special category (0.98). 58 statement items developed after being tested for validity and reliability, 55 statement items are appropriate for measuring student career choices, especially in Indonesia.

Abstract

Mindful self-care is a process that involves awareness and careful assessment of one's internal needs and external demands. The implications of self-care activities that are deliberately carried out specifically can meet needs and demands by providing services for one's well-being. The transition from adolescence to adulthood can be marked by dramatic life changes, such as during college as a student at a university. Students aged 18 and over may face various academic, social, and emotional pressures that can affect their physical and psychological well-being. This research is descriptive quantitative research with a survey type to see an overview of the level of mindful self-care in college students. This research was conducted on 75 Islamic Guidance and Counseling Study Program students at the Da'wah Faculty of UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. The study results showed that 36% were in the low category, 40% were in the medium category, and 24% were in the high category. Based on this, the average value obtained is 3.76, which indicates that mindful self-care for students of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program, Faculty of Da'wah, Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten State Islamic University, is in the medium category.

Abstract

Many changes that occur in the educational climate are suspected to have an influence on the mental health of teachers. To get the maximum learning process required a healthy mental condition of the teacher. This study aims to describe the mental health conditions of elementary school teachers after the pandemic, identify factors that affect the mental health conditions of elementary school teachers and determine efforts to achieve a healthy mental state. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, with interviews. The participants are 3 elementary school teachers in Surabaya. The results shows that three participants need to get support for their mental health conditions, especially in the environmental mastery dimension. Factors that influence the condition are the school system that needs to be understood and adjusted by teachers and the attitude of supervisor. Efforts made to achieve mental health are self-acceptance for individuals and organizing mental health and educational workshops for institutions. Suggestions for teachers and schools are the need for effective two-way communication to support the mental health of teachers.

Abstract

COVID-19 that has happened up until now brings the deaths of millions of people. The experience of losing the loved one and suffering different situations than usual with many rules regarding funerals causes grief which results in psychological distress for the grieving individuals. Moreover, when grief is experienced by adolescents. This research aimed to systematically observe the psychological distress experienced by adolescents as a result of grief related to the loss of the beloved one due to COVID-19. The journals applied for the literature review in this research were taken from three journal databases: proquest, sciencedirect and SAGE, published in 2020-2021. As result, 171 eligible articles were extracted and synthesized according to review objectives. The result showed that there was psychological distress in adolescents who experienced grief such as hopelessness as well as anxiety, and most of them showed indications leading to worse mental disorders such as depression, panic attacks, paranoia, and suicide.

Abstract

The advancement of the nation is determined by human capital quality, one of which is basic literacy (reading). The ability to read is one of the important skills that children must learn during the first years of elementary school (Mujis & Reynolds, 2008). Nevertheless, the problem of reading development has yet become a problem in various area in Indonesia. This study uses an experiment method with single subject research design. The aim of the study was to develop and determine the effectiveness of the phonic intervention model for elementary school students who have difficulty reading and writing. The phonic intervention model in this study was developed based on an assessment of the participants. The intervention was composed of a series of structured verbal instructions propped with reading aids. The results showed that the phonic intervention could improve children's reading skills if applied consistently. The interventions that supported by conducive environment can effectively help the development of reading skills in elementary school students.
