Abstract

Social adjustment in adolescents is a crucial process in individual development. High school adolescents often face various environmental changes and social pressures that differ from those at other ages. Reasonable social adjustment can help adolescents cope with problems and promote positive social and emotional development. However, poor adjustment can lead to mental and social health issues. This article explores various aspects of social adjustment in high school adolescents, including influencing factors, adjustment stages, and effective interventions. This study aims to develop an instrument that can be used to identify students' social adjustment. The participants involved in developing this instrument were 41 students aged 14-16 years (mean=0.80 and SD=0.83). The reliability value of the items is in the excellent category (0.918). Out of 50 statements developed, after testing validity and reliability, 49 statements are suitable for measuring students' social adjustment.

Abstract

Recent research has found that negative experiences due to childhood maltreatment do not always persist; survivors can experience positive growth, which is called posttraumatic growth (PTG). Two of the protective factors that encourage PTG are social support and mindfulness. Social support through empathy, giving new perspectives, and appreciation can help survivors deal effectively with traumatic events and lead to the PTG process. In addition, survivors who have mindfulness can also practice direct involvement with their thoughts and feelings, not judge traumatic events, and help survivors rebuild the meaning of the world. This correlational and quantitative study examined the role of social support and mindfulness in posttraumatic growth (PTG) among 114 young adult survivors of childhood maltreatment aged 20–40 years (M = 24.84, SD = 4.55). The measuring tools used in this study were the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory—Short Form (PTG-SF), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), the Tarumanagara Five-Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (TFFMQ), and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire—Short Form (CTQ-SF). Using multiple regression analysis, results showed that social support (β = 0.350 p < 0.01) and mindfulness (β = 0.336 p < 0.01) had a positive effect on PTG in young adults who survived childhood maltreatment, with the higher support and mindfulness felt by the survivors, the higher the PTG they experienced. This research shows the importance of social support and mindfulness in shaping positive changes in the lives of young adults who have survived childhood maltreatment.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on individual health conditions, especially COVID-19 survivors who have comorbidities. Therefore, to reduce PTSD experienced by COVID-19 survivors, resilience and social support are needed. This study aims to determine the role of social support as a moderator in the relationship between resilience and PTSD in COVID-19 survivors who have comorbidities. Participants in this study were 105 people aged 20-60 years, women and men with comorbid diseases who had been contaminated with the COVID-19 virus. By using quantitative research methods, this research uses the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-25) measuring instrument to measure resilience, the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist DSM-5 (PCL-5) measuring instrument to measure PTSD, and the Multidimensional Scale Perceived of Social Support (MSPSS) to measure social support. Data analysis using MRA showed that social support did not act as a moderator in the relationship between resilience and PTSD but had a significant direct effect on PTSD.

Abstract

Choosing a career is not an easy thing for a teenager to go through. Several factors, including the influence of the family environment and culture, influence a person's career orientation. Cultural differences between ethnic groups can result in a different orientation to individual careers. This study uses a quantitative approach with a comparative type and a sampling technique using purposive sampling with a questionnaire data source. Based on the survey results from various aspects, it can be seen that students from the Banjar and Javanese tribes are superior in career planning to the other three factors. The information aspect of the world of work is the element with the lowest score, and there is little difference between Banjarese students and Javanese students. From this study, it can be concluded that there is no significant difference between the average career orientation of students in the Banjar and Javanese.

Abstract

Various interventions have been researched that are capable of reducing symptoms of mood disorders, including DBT (Goldstein et al., 2015; Van Dijk et al., 2013). In addition to individual interventions, group therapy interventions have also been widely used and proven to be effective in reducing symptoms of Bipolar disorder in participants (Costa et al., 2012; Rebeca et al., 2020). This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group therapy using a DBT approach on the emotional regulation and self-control of individuals with mood disorders. Group therapy was conducted on ten individuals with mood disorders. The Brief Self-Control Scale and Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale were used as tools for quantitative data collection.Meanwhile, observation and interviews were conducted to assess group therapy's effectiveness qualitatively. The hypothesis testing results indicate no significant correlation between the two variables. These findings are helpful for the development of psychological interventions for individuals with mood disorders in Indonesia.

Abstract

Cheating behavior is a dishonest act deliberately carried out by someone to gain approval from others for their learning achievements, even if it is done incorrectly. This research aims to review the role of self-efficacy and self-concept on students' cheating behavior at Muhammadiyah University of Sidoarjo. Using a simple random sampling technique, the research design used a quantitative approach with a sample of 370 students at Muhammadiyah University of Sidoarjo. This research instrument uses an adoption and adaptation scale with a Likert scale model on cheating behavior, self-efficacy, and self-concept. The cheating behavior scale was adopted from Muni Pratiwi (2015) based on behavioral aspects according to Fishbein and Ajzen (1975) with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability of 0.888. The self-efficacy scale is measured using the General Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Born, Schwarzer & Jerusalem (1999), which has been adapted into Indonesian by Riangga Novrianto (2019) with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.901. Self-concept was measured using the adoption of the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale (TSCS) created by Fitts (1971) and developed in Indonesian by Shovia Lintina (2015). The data analysis technique uses multiple linear regression. The research results state that self-efficacy and self-concept play a role in cheating behavior. When students feel confident in achieving achievements and can complete academic activities well, it will enable students to engage in less cheating behavior. The contribution made jointly was 40.9%. Self-efficacy contributed 32%, while self-concept contributed 8.7%, which means self-efficacy contributed more to cheating behavior.

Abstract

Entering higher education gives students new roles and responsibilities. Accompanied by increasing tasks, burdens, and obligations they possess, this causes students to face various issues. The various challenges faced by students influence their subjective well-being (SWB). This study aims to examine GPA as a mediating variable between achievement goal orientation (AGO) and subjective well-being (SWB), an area that hasn't been extensively researched. The participants of this study amounted to 175 individuals, active students from various departments, aged between 18-22 years old. Data was collected using the SWB scale, AGO scale, and GPA to measure students' academic achievements, distributed through online surveys. The research findings indicate that GPA does not significantly mediate between AGO and SWB. This study also discovered that AGO has a positive and significant relationship with SWB and GPA.

Abstract

The increase in the number of older adults every year is an important concern, especially regarding the welfare of the elderly. The older a person gets, the more they need a place to take shelter and get love, especially from family. Not all elderly people are lucky enough to be able to live with their families and pay attention to their welfare. Many elderly people experience a decrease in their quality of life while staying at the social service for the elderly and even lose the meaning of their lives. Meaning of life is easier to find and higher level when in a pleasant situation. But finding the meaning of life can also be in conditions of suffering or suffering, such as being in a social service or nursing home. This encourages researchers to determine the effectiveness of logotherapy. Logotherapy is also often given as an alternative to psychotherapy for various problems faced by the elderly. The purpose of this study was to see the effectiveness of logotherapy in increasing the meaning of life in the elderly. This study uses a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. The participants in this study were 12 elderly people in the social service of PematangSiantar who were divided into two groups (experimental and control groups). The results of this study showed that logotherapy was significantly effective in increasing the meaningfulness of life in the elderly with p = 0.036 or <0.05. The effect of logotherapy on the meaning of life in the elderly also has a large effect, namely r = -0.89. These results indicate that logotherapy is effective in increasing the meaning of life for the elderly.

Abstract

Subjective well-being is an indicator of mental health that plays an essential role in college students because it significantly predicts academic achievement and dropout rates. This study aimed to determine the effect of perceptions on the quality of higher education services, social support, and self-regulation on college students' subjective well-being. The sample in this study was 325 college students from various universities in Indonesia. The data in this study were obtained through the College Student Subjective Well-Being Questionnaire, the Higher Education Performance Scale, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and the Self Regulation Questionnaire to measure variables in this study. The collected data were then analyzed using multiple linear regression. This study showed that student perceptions of college service quality, social support, and self-regulation significantly influence college students' subjective well-being. Student perceptions of the college service quality were the main predictor of college students' subjective well-being. The implication of this research was that to improve the subjective well-being of college students, a comprehensive approach is needed that includes quality services from universities, social support, and good self-regulation skills in students.

Abstract

The study aimed to use role-play techniques to determine aggressive behavior in physical aggression (hitting and pushing) and verbal aggression (teasing and yelling) by children toward other children. The study used a quasi-experimental method, with a single case, with an A-B-A design, then this data was processed with descriptive analysis and hypothesis testing with a pre-post-test design, with a comparative test of baseline scores one and 2. Processing with hypothesis testing with Wilcoxon signed test. Participants in the study were six boys aged 9-11 years (M = 10.9, SD 1.2) and students in grades 4-5 SD. The results of the descriptive analysis above show a decrease in aggressive behavior scores at each stage of the intervention, both physical and verbal aggressiveness. The results of testing the hypothesis using the analysis program SPSS Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a Z value of -3.066 at a significance level of p <.001. This means that the hypothesis is accepted, meaning there is a significant decrease in the scores of aggressive behavior before and after the intervention with the role-play technique.
