The CMES (Center of Middle Eastern Studies) journal is a distinguished peer-reviewed academic publication dedicated to advancing rigorous scholarly research on Middle Eastern studies. It publishes high-caliber research articles, theoretical studies, and critical reviews that engage with both contemporary and historical issues relevant to the region, employing a multidisciplinary approach. The CMES journal serves as a dynamic intellectual platform for researchers, academics, and practitioners to exchange innovative findings and perspectives, advancing Middle Eastern studies through a multidisciplinary framework grounded in the epistemological foundations of the humanities and social sciences. In the humanities, the journal emphasizes linguistics, literature, and Arab culture, while in the social sciences, it focuses on politics, economics, education, and the social dimensions of Arab societies. CMES encourages scholarly work that engages these disciplines through monodisciplinary inquiry, interdisciplinary synthesis, or transdisciplinary dialogue, fostering conceptual integration and methodological interaction across disciplinary boundaries. Manuscripts submitted to CMES must be pertinent to Middle Eastern studies and demonstrate clear engagement with the epistemic traditions of their respective fields. Submissions are expected to exhibit rigorous methodology, original insights, and significant contributions to regional studies, while appealing to a global academic audience.

Abstract

Arabic calligraphy as an art form distinctively Islamic in its development continues to progress, both in terms of form, writing, style, visualization, and media usage trends. Research on Arabic calligraphy is intended to determine the development of Arabic calligraphy in Indonesia by presenting a glimpse of history in the Middle East until in Indonesia. Data were obtained from a review of literature and direct observation, as well as the sources of literature and internet, studies done using qualitative methods based on quantitative data obtained. Results showed that the development of Arabic calligraphy in Indonesia towards metamorphosis, transformation and paradigm forms in accordance with the spirit of the age. Changes in cultural traditions characterized by the development of civilization increasingly open and reveal that calligraphy in Indonesia continues to grow following the movement of culture in other aspects of the broader, he was instrumental not only in the frame of the architecture of religious buildings, but he has been included in the development of eco-architecture today central to the social needs of society.

Abstract

Advertising is the means the company to introduce, promote products, and sell them to the public. Print ads generally use verbal element of the display (text) and nonverbal elements (contexts). These two elements with sales messages conveyed to the reader or potential consumers. Therefore, the problem is how to link these elements to form a whole discourse in commercial advertising (IKOMES), especially in the print media in Egypt. What is the structure of these elements and how the meaning or message(s) contained in it, and how the meaning or message that contained therein. So, thereader can understand what the advertiser wishes. A number of research data is collected from various newspapers and magazines that published in Egyptwhich containelements of verbal and nonverbal as well as having elements as Leech concepts. Therefore, commercial advertisements containing text and context of the local culture and contain sales messages to the audience.The data were analyzed with advertising discourse by utilizing several theories simultaneously. The theories will be used are the theory of discourse, pragmatic theory, and the theory of semiotics. The results of the research that has been done is as for the message is delivered in IKOMES more through nonverbal elements because more interesting. Nevertheless in advertising, to explain the nonverbal elements, at least one verbal element must be displayed, namely al-khaththur-raīsi or headline.

Abstract

Salafi groups are very proscribe organizations, tandzim, and association. These are all heretics and can bring the Muslims to hizbiyya and harakiyya and keep them away from al-wala wa 'l-bara. Meanwhile, to establish friendship among Salafis, they usually conduct a study Islam together and visit each other. According to Salafi groups, it is more effective than setting up an organization that many madharat. In administering the program in pesantrens, various ustadhs appointed to occupy certain positions in themanagement structure so that the pesantren is running properly.

Abstract

This paper will discuss al-af’āl al-injāziyyah or illocutionary speech acts in a novel Achbabtuka Aktsara Min Mā Yanbaghī as work 'Asīr ‘Abdullāh an-Nimsyī based on the study of pragmatics. Al-af’āl al-injāziyyah in the novel that need to be investigated as it includes expressions that use illocutionary speech acts. Three methods were used in this study, the method of data collection, data analysis methods, and methods of reporting the results of the data analysis. Based on research that has been conducted, concluded that the novel Achbabtuka Aktsara Min Mā Yanbaghī by 'Asīr ‘Abdullāh an-Nimsyī (2014)  use of various kinds of al-af’āl al-injāziyyah or illocutionary speech acts. These al-af’āl al-injāziyyah are (1) al-ikhbāriyyah (assertive), (2) al-injāziyyah (declarative), (3) al-iltizāmiyyah (commissive), (4) at-ta’bīriyyah (expressive), and (5) at-taujīhiyyāt (directive). Among the five kinds of illocutionary speech acts are the most widely used in novel Achbabtuka Aktsara Min Mā Yanbaghī is a directive speech act or at-taujīhiyyāt.

Abstract

The construction of word in Arabic language had been done by the process of derivation, by looking into this process, the lexicon of Arabic language can be reached and also it can be developed by the period. This research will investigate the construction of Arabic derivative word in the perspective of Kufah Scholar. The data in this research was divided into certain theories and facts of language collected from the primary and secondary references. The primary reference included the main opus work from the Kufah scholars, such as: Al-Farra‟, and also some works from Al-Anbari who had been collected and noted many opinions belong to Kufah scholar during the confrontation with the Basrah scholar. An amount of the research results and some works of contemporary Arabic Grammarians had been become the secondary reference of this research. This research had been concluded that the process of derivation in Arabic word in the Kufah Scholar had many variants of patterns and the high forms. This condition was caused by the data of language which had been recognized wider range of Basrah scholar. The opinion of Kufah Scholar about the root or radical had the strong basis in the development of contemporary of linguistics, especially in the Semitic Language.

Abstract

This article aims to explain the structural text of Asy'ab fī Bilādil Wāq Wāq (2002) and Asy'ab fī Michnah (2002) by Wajī h Ya'qub As-Sayyid by using Burhan Nurgiyantoro‟s structural theory. So, The purpose of this study focused to describes the structural text of both. The results shows that: first, The text structure in the short story Asy'ab fī Bilādil Wāq Wāq (2002) and Asy'ab fī Michnah (2002) is built with 6 (six) elements. Second, The characters in the short story of both text  are categorized into two :Protagonist and antagonist. (1) the protagonist is represented by the figure: (a) Asy'ab with a number of personalities such: Wise, patient, trustworthy, responsible, broad-minded, hard work, humble and calm; (b) Great chef with his personality: Care for others and firm; (c) servants with his personality: Honest and submissive; (d) friends with personality: Likes to help and care for others; (e) Asy'ab's wife with her personality: Care for her husband, (2) the antagonist is represented by a character: (a) Governor with a number of personalities: hunatic, emotional and greedy; (b) Minister with a number of personalities: Evil, stubborn, nonchalant and greedy.

Abstract

By using Arabic language, Allah SWT had been sent the holy Qur‟an as the roles for the human being in the worship and the process of interaction with the mankind in the life. To gain the message of Al-Qur‟an deeply and comprehensively, the student should learn specifically for the sciences which had the purposes to understand Arabic language as the main medium for understanding the holy Qur‟an. The Arabic Syntax (Nahwu) is one of the sciences needed for understanding comprehensively about the sentences used in the Al-Qur‟an. The students have to understand the sentences before understanding the contents of Al-Qur‟an passing through the sentences in Al-Qur‟an. In the process of learning Nahwu, there are some items which had been mastered beforem completely, and it should need the simplification and facilitation in the process of learning. Finally, the process of teaching and learning should pass through some elements, correlated with the contents or teaching methodology.
