Abstract

Critical literacy skills still need to be developed, considering that the essential power of students is not yet maximized, which is characterized by being easily provoked and having difficulty solving problems. Candidates for elementary school teachers who will later be in control at the basic education level are expected to master these abilities before they teach them to students. This study aims to analyze the extent of critical literacy mastery of elementary school teacher education students. The method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The research was conducted at the Department of Elementary School Teacher Education, with 142 students. To collect data, this study used interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique uses the Bogdan and Biklen model, namely analyzing data by narrowing the findings based on phenomena. The result of this research is that the mastery of critical literacy, owned by the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program students, is quite good even though all students do not evenly share this mastery. Mastery of critical literacy is manifested in collaborative activities, socio-cultural linkages, and the involvement of reflective thinking. This study implies that essential literacy learning should be part of the curriculum to have an honest and targeted impact.

Abstract

Learning English is one of the important fundamental aspects that students must master from the lexicon/vocabulary learning process. Currently, lecturers only focus on giving assignments on test questions in general English books. This results in students not being confident in speaking English because they do not have a large collection of vocabulary. This study aims to produce an Ecolinguistic-based English for Computer learning tool. This research method is research development using the ADDIE model which consists of several steps, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects in this study consisted of 3 expert validation and 30 students in the information technology study program STKIP Yapis Dompu. The research instruments used in this research are Learning Device Validation Sheet, Learning Implementation Plan, Worksheet, Response Questionnaire, and Learning Outcome Test. The data analysis techniques in this study were expert validation analysis, test data analysis, and test analysis of learning outcomes. The result of this study shows learning tools of the material are presented well, the language used is easy to understand, and the questions given can be done by students. Textbooks are also effective in increasing the achievement of student learning outcomes because they are actively involved in finding material, finding relationships between materials, and being able to apply their knowledge so that students will be able to construct knowledge gained from their experiences. The resulting product is in the form of English course textbooks for students in the Information Technology Education Study Program.

Abstract

The teaching and learning process is still focused on educators. Students are less willing to accept learning materials and social studies. Therefore, students only have a correct understanding of the material. This research is an experimental study that uses a pre-test-post-test design with experimental and control classes. This study aims to analyze the differences in critical thinking abilities of elementary school students in the experimental class with the problem-based learning model and the control class using the guided inquiry learning model. The population in this study was fourth-grade students. The sampling technique using stratified cluster random sampling was chosen as the sampling technique. Data processing is done by analyzing Paired Sampling and Independent Sampling. The results showed (1) the t-test analysis obtained two-sided Sig of 0.00 <0.05, the hypothesis Ho was rejected, and there were differences in the effectiveness of using the PBL model and learning guidelines on student criticality. social studies thinking skills, (2) The calculation of effect size shows that the problem-based learning model (PBL) is more effective than the guided inquiry model on students' critical thinking skills in social studies learning. The critical thinking skills of students who use the problem-based learning model are much higher than the critical thinking skills of students who use the guided inquiry model. The problem-based learning (PBL) model is more effective than the guided inquiry model for social studies learning about students' critical thinking skills that can analyze and solve their problems.

Abstract

Assessment of children's literacy development needs to be supported by STEAM learning assessments. This study aims to analyze the application of the STEAM learning assessment in the development of early childhood literacy. This study uses an ex-post facto approach with a quantitative descriptive method of implementing STEAM learning with authentic assessment techniques. The data collection instrument was observation with a scale of 4 structured, content valid oriented; anecdote notes to record specific behaviors, and portfolios to obtain data on children's performance, knowledge, and creative skills, with three main aspects: structure, content, and holistic. Observation of learning, anecdotal notes, and analysis of work results was carried out on 20 children in group B. The data obtained was described in 5 aspects of literacy: science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Literacy development is described in ordinal data and analyzed descriptively using percentage techniques. The results showed that all children developed completely regarding technological and mathematical literacy. On average, they developed very well; 90% of children developed completely in the scientific aspect, with an average development according to expectations; 60% of children developed completely in engineering literacy and 50% in artistic literacy, with an average development as expected. This research implies that the STEAM learning assessment can assist in developing early childhood literacy.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has made learning at school unable to be carried out face-to-face; this condition has a worse effect on vocational education, which cannot carry out practical learning to prepare students that must carry out internships in industry. This study explores the student readiness level in carrying out internship programs during the pandemic and the other perspective from school and industry. This article focused from the point of view on the results of a mix-method online survey among 160 internship students. Teachers and industry practitioners were also interviewed to corroborate the results of the readiness research. The results show that 4.04% of students had a low level of readiness, 60.18% had a moderate level of readiness, 24.98% had a high level of readiness, and only 10.80% had a very high level of readiness. The school is responsible for preparing their student competence before sending them to the internship program in the industry, even in crises, because the industry is already prepared for exceptional cases like the pandemic. Industry advises schools to prepare students on the competence of motorcycle periodical maintenance. Schools with industry must have special programs planning to prepare students' competence for crises.

Abstract

Prospective teacher students have been heavily involved in research on developing information and communication technology (ICT)-based teaching materials. The problems that exist until now often encounter obstacles in applying the right instructional system design model. This study is intended to formulate an instructional system design model that students can choose according to the characteristics of the ICT-based teaching materials developed. The study used an ex post facto approach with a descriptive method. A total of 528 student research reports in the 2017-2021 period became the population and the research sample. Observations were made on research reports to collect data, both quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, while qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana technique. The study found that there were six selected instructional system design models, of which the ADDIE model was the most chosen (37.50%), followed by ASSURE (20.45%), Dick & Carey (19.32%), Four-D (14.39%), Rapid Prototyping (6.82%), and the Kemp model being the least chosen model (1.52%). The main reason for choosing the model is the certainty of steps, ease of use, and user friendly, while many steps are not considered. As a result, the ADDIE, ASSURE, Dick & Carey, and Four-D models were widely chosen, while flexible models such as Kemp and Rapid Prototyping were not widely chosen because they require consideration in starting and ending development. Experience brings them the competence to choose the right instructional system design model.

Abstract

Achievement of science learning competence for children in Indonesia is still low. This low achievement is strongly suspected because Indonesian students are not used to dealing with TIMSS and PISA questions. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the problem-based learning model to improve higher order thinking skills (HOTS) and the characteristics of elementary students. This study was a quasi-experimental using a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest experimental design. The experimental class is a class with problem-based learning, while the control class is a class with direct learning. The research population was fifth grade elementary school students. The research sample consisted of 71 students from 5 schools, all of which were public schools. The school sample was determined by stratified random sampling and the class of each school was determined randomly. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively, both descriptively and inferentially. The results of the study show that problem-based learning is better than direct learning to improve HOTS; and problem-based learning is effective for increasing perseverance, responsibility, hard work, cooperation, caring, and tolerance.
