Abstract

Introduction: Hypercholesterolemia is one of risk factor that cause cardiovascular disease and the main cause of morbidity and mortality in the world. Obesity  often be related as one of predisposing factor in hypercholesterolemia. However, measuring obesity indicator is still different in many case. This study aim to understand the relation between visceral fat level, body fat percentage and body mass index with total cholesterol women in Madiun Regency. Method: Study design used is cross sectional and conducted 38 women (60-74 years) with purposive sampling technic. Data analysis technique used is Spearman correlations with ?=0,05. Result and analysis: visceral fat level and total cholesterol has the p value 0,005 and coefficient correlation 0,448. Its means that there is relationship between visceral fat level and total cholesterol with moderate correlation. Discussion: The increase of visceral fat related to the metabolic risk factor because it cause abnormalities lipoprotein metabolism that cause aterogenic dislipdemia. There are some factor can affected visceral fat deposit, one of them is age factor. Age factor can increasing visceral fat throught increasing lipoprotein-lipoid metabolism in plasma glucose in woman premenopause than younger women (Pascot et al, 1999). So it is very important to keep visceral fat level in normal level all the time.

Abstract

Introduction: differences in how to cook and process food will cause different glucose responses. The process of cooking or heating will cause the gelatinization process in starch so that starch will be more easily digested because the digestive enzymes in the intestine get a wider workplace. Particle size also affects the glycemic index. The smaller particle size causes the structure of food to be smooth so that the food is easily digested and absorbed in the body and causes blood sugar levels to rise rapidly. The purpose of this study is to explain glucose levels in cooked rice with the Teflon rice cooker method, stainless rice cooker and with the traditional / steaming method at various temperatures. Methods: Glucose levels were determined by the dinitrosalicylic acid method, spectrophotometric-colorimetric methods using cooked rice with various methods (Teflon rice cookers, steamed and stainless rice cookers) and various temperatures (hot, warm and cold). each sample was repeated three times. Data were tested using a statistical test with SPSS 20 with a Randomized Group Design test (RCBD). Results and Analysis: p <0.05 which means that there are significant differences in glucose levels with various methods and varying temperatures, but in the Post Hoc Test did not get the lowest recommendation of rice glucose levels. Each method of cooking rice will have a different cooking temperature so that there will be a process of changing the content of rice during the cooking and heating process. the real difference in glucose levels in the results of this study is due to differences in temperature in the cooking process so that the leaching process occurs, then the temperature difference when tested causes the starch retrogradation process, so that the interaction of various methods and the temperature of rice produces differences in rice glucose levels.

Abstract

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes is a disease characterized by insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion, one of the risk factors associated with this disease is age. Elderly has decreased pancreatic function resulting in decreased insulin production which results in increased sugar levels. Uncontrolled sugar levels cause various complications, one of which is peripheral neuropathy. In the elderly program with chronic diseases, get neurotropic supplement therapy. Neurotropic supplements can protect nerves. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between consumption of neurotropic supplements with symptoms of peripheral neuropathy in the elderly who suffer from type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method: The design of this study was cross-sectional, carried out in the elderly program with chronic diseases in Garum and Banjarejo health centers. The sample of of this studies was 34 elderly who suffer from type 2 diabetes mellitus taken by accidental sampling with inclusion criteria elderly who do not suffer from diabetic foot ulcer. This study was taken by interviewing and examining peripheral neuropathy using the MNSI Instrument (Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument). The data obtained will be analyzed with the Spearman Rho test. The results of this study there was relationship between consumption of neurotropic supplements with symptoms of peripheral neuropathy in the elderly who suffer from type 2 diabetes mellitus with a value of P = 0.010. Discussion: the researcher recommends to the next researcher to conduct an experimental study about neurotropic supplementation in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. In order to get the right formulation in the use of neurotropic supplements to prevent peripheral neuropathy, given the increasing number of sufferers with diabetes mellitus
