Abstract

The determination of matrices, models, and variants of a song called Pretender is intended to describe the meaning of the song. The theory used refers to the semiotics model of Michael Riffaterre. In this study, the method used is a qualitative-descriptive, non-interactive research approach, see notes, and literature studies. Based on the results and discussion, matrices, models, and variants in Riffaterre's semiotics can clarify the subject matter that the songwriter wants to convey through the lyrics. The variants that are the subject matter are broken down through 5 arrays. The matrix or keyword in the song Pretender by HIGE DANdism reads "fear, inferiority complex that leads to despair". The keyword is transformed through the model with the word "gubbai"「グッバイ」which means "goodbye".

Abstract

Dialect is one of the forms of language variation that reflects the social and geographical identity of its speakers, and it plays an important role in cultural representation in media, including anime. The Kansai dialect, spoken in Japan's Kansai region, varies from standard Japanese in phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary. By analyzing Inuyama Aoi's dialogues, the study aims to understand how the Kansai dialect shapes her character and influences viewers' perceptions. The methodology involves transcribing and analyzing her dialogues to identify distinctive Kansai dialect features such as pitch accent, grammar, and vocabulary. The study seeks to reveal how the dialect contributes to portraying Inuyama Aoi's personality and background. Initial findings indicate that the Kansai dialect highlights her regional identity and cultural background, enhances the anime's authenticity, and adds humor and warmth to her character. This research deepens our understanding of dialects in anime and their role in character development, providing insights into nuanced and authentic character portrayals.

Abstract

21st century learning requires students to have critical, creative, communicative, and collaborative thinking skills. In the process of learning Japanese at SMK Kansai Pekanbaru, problems were found in students' low vocabulary mastery due to conventional learning methods and lack of use of interactive media. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using Kahoot media in improving vocabulary in SMK Kansai Pekanbaru students. This study is a quantitative study using the true-experimental method and the Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The population of this study were grade X students of SMK Kansai Pekanbaru. The research sample consisted of 38 students who were divided into experimental classes and control classes through random sampling techniques. The research instruments were pre-test & post-test and Kahoot media. The results showed that there was a significant increase in the experimental class with an average score of 60 to 87 after being given the treatment of using Kahoot media. While the control class only experienced a slight increase from 63.78 to 67.33. These findings indicate that the use of Kahoot media is effective in improving students' mastery of Japanese vocabulary and encouraging students' motivation and activeness during the learning process. Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a fundamental aspect of foreign language learning; however, it often becomes a major challenge for learners due to its complex and diverse semantic nature. Previous studies with similar research focus have shown that such difficulties are influenced by various factors, including inadequate teaching methods, first-language interference, and the low frequency of practice activities that support lexical mastery. This study presents the results of an error analysis in Japanese vocabulary acquisition at the intermediate level, equivalent to level N3 on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) scale. The respondents were 25 adult learners aged between 20 and 23 years. Data were collected using a mixed-methods approach and employed three instruments: JLPT N3 based vocabulary test items, the Language Experience and Proficiency Questionnaire (LEAP-Q) developed by Marilyn Logan (2007), which was adapted and modified for this study, and semi structured interviews. The data were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings indicated that the participants’ average level of Japanese vocabulary mastery was 64%, based on the analysis and calculations discussed. The vocabulary errors identified in this study were categorized into errors and mistakes. It is recommended that learners engage in more intensive reading and composition practice. Future research is advised to involve a larger number of participants with more diverse first-language backgrounds and to utilize more secure testing platforms to minimize the potential for cheating.

Abstract

This article focuses on the Death Note anime by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. Aired in Japan from October 3 2006 to June 26 2007, it tells the story of a high school student named Light Yagami who finds a Death Note belonging to a Shinigami (God of Death) named Ryuk. This research uses a qualitative method, which analyzes based on themes, dialogue and the actions of the main characters. The aim of this research is to analyze the influence and impact of social criticism in Death Note such as abuse of power, authoritarianism and moral relativism. The results of the data analysis show that the anime Death Note provides profound social criticism through the exploration of themes such as abuse of power, ethical ambiguity, the role of the media, and the limitations of the human justice system. This work is a reminder that power must always be balanced with responsibility, and justice must be achieved through wisdom, not tyranny.
