Abstract

Candida albicans yeast is a normal microflora of the human body are pathogenic if the amount is excessive and decreased immune system. In general infections caused by C.albicans called candidiasis. People use ginger rhizome (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) for traditional treatment of various diseases including disease whitish and sprue. Research purposes  to test the ability of ginger rhizome extract antifungal against C. albicans. This study was conducted in August 2016 until October 2016 held at the Laboratory of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Integrated Laboratory PGRI Palembang University. This study uses a completely randomized design  with six treatments using ginger rhizome extract concentration and performed four replications for each treatment. From the research that has been conducted shows that the methanol extract of ginger rhizome has the ability antifungal against Candida albicans in vitro, a concentration of 10% methanol extract of ginger rhizome produce inhibition zone diameter of 16.2 mm.Keywords: Extract, ginger rhizome, antifungal, Candida albicans.ABSTRAKJamur Candida albicans merupakan mikroflora normal tubuh manusia bersifat patogen jika jumlahnya berlebihan dan daya tahan tubuh menurun. Secara umum infeksi yang disebabkan oleh C.albicans disebut kandidiasis. Masyarakat memanfaatkan rimpang temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) untuk pengobatan tradisional berbagai penyakit diantaranya keputihan dan sariawan.Tujuan penelitian untuk menguji kemampuan antifungi ekstrak rimpang temulawak terhadap C. albicans. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Agustus 2016 sampai dengan Oktober 2016 bertempat di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi dan Bioteknologi, Laboratorium Terpadu Universitas PGRI Palembang. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan menggunakan 6 perlakuan konsentrasi ekstrak rimpang temulawak dan dilakukan 4 kali ulangan pada tiap perlakuan. Dari penelitian yang telah dilakukan didapatkan bahwa ekstrak metanol rimpang temulawak mempunyai kemampuan antifungi terhadap Candida albicans secara in vitro, konsentrasi 10% ekstrak metanol rimpang temulawak menghasilkan diameter zona hambat sebesar 16,2 mm. Kata Kunci: ekstrak, rimpang temulawak, antifungi, Candida albicans

Abstract

In this work, the modification of TiO2 nanostructures based on its morphology and crystallinity phase were fabricated using a simple method. Hydrothermal growth method was used to synthesize nanorods and nanoflowers, while nanoparticles was applied using squeegee method. The average length and diameter of the as-grown nanorods were 3.5 and 46-215 nm, respectively. Meanwhile, the average total thickness and band gap value of mixed-phase TiO2 nanostructures were 15.98-24.54 nm and 2.84 eV, respectively. Based on its structural and electrical properties, the fabricated film has great potential to be applied as photoanode semiconductor layer for dye-sensitized solar cells application. Key words: TiO2, Nanostructures, Mixed-phase, Hydrothermal, Squeegee

Abstract

A new layered material-drug nanocomposite namely, Zn/Al-layered double hydroxide-ferulate (Zn/Al-LDH-FA) has been synthesized using the ion exchange method. PXRD pattern and elemental analysis showed that Zn/Al-LDH-FA nanocomposite yielded high crystalline and pure phase material with a basal spacing of 17.4 Å and anion loading of 35.9 % respectively. The FTIR spectra reveal the presence of FA in the interlayer of Zn/Al-LDH, while the thermal analysis shows that the Zn/Al-LDH has enhanced the thermal stability of FA in the interlayer compared to its pure form. Anionic FA intercalated into the interlayer of Zn/Al-LDH as vertical monolayer with the carboxylate groups pointing towards the Zn/Al-LDHs layers. The intercalation of FA into the interlayer of Zn/Al-LDH is also supported by morphology analysis, FESEM.Keywords: Synthesis, Intercalation, Layered Double Hydroxide, Ferulic AcidABSTRAKSebuah bahan-obat berlapis nanokomposit baru yaitu, Zn/Al-berlapis ganda hidroksida-ferulate (Zn/Al-LDH-FA) telah disintesis dengan menggunakan metode pertukaran ion. Pola PXRD dan analisis unsur menunjukkan bahwa Zn/Al-LDH-FA nanokomposit menghasilkan kristalinitas tinggi dan material fase murni dengan jarak basal dari 17,4 Å dan pemuatan anion 35,9%. Spektrum FTIR mengungkapkan adanya FA di lapisan Zn/Al-LDH, sedangkan analisis termal menunjukkan bahwa Zn/Al-LDH telah meningkatkan stabilitas termal FA di antar lapisan dibandingkan dengan bentuk murninya. Anionik FA diselingi ke dalam interlayer Zn/Al-LDH sebagai monolayer vertikal dengan gugus karboksilat menunjuk ke arah lapisan Zn/Al-LDHs. Interkalasi dari FA ke dalam interlayer Zn/Al-LDH juga didukung oleh analisis morfologi, FESEM.Kata kunci: Sintesis, interkalasi, hidroksida berlapis ganda, asam ferulic

Abstract

Research of Phytoplankton Diversity in Kambang Iwak Palembang retension pond, was in May to June 2016.  The research objective was to determine the diversity of phytoplankton in Palembang Iwak Kambang retention pond. The study used survey method with purposive sampling method, samples were taken from five stations is determined by filtering 40 liters of water at each station. Furthermore, the type and amount of phytoplankton. The results showed that the diversity of phytoplankton consists of 4 classes Chlorophyceae, Bacillariophyceae, Euglenophyceae and Cyanophyceae. 11 orders, 14 familia, 16 genera and 16 species. Abundance of phytoplankton with the lowest density values were 9.37 ind / liter (station 5), while the highest value of 28.71 ind / liter (station 3). Dominance index the highest in station 5 with a value of 0.36 and the lowest value at station 4 with a value of 0.19. Diversity index of the five observation stations classified as moderate by the respective value of 1.59 (Station 1), 1.41 (2 stations), 1.89 (3 stations), 1.79 (4 stations) and 1.19 (the station 5).Keywords : phytoplankton, diversity, retention ponABSTRAK Penelitian berjudul Keanekaragaman Fitoplankton di Kolam Retensi Kambang Iwak Palembang, telah dilaksanakan pada Mei sampai Juni 2016, bertujuan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman fitoplankton di sana. Penelitian menggunakan metode survey dengan cara purpossive sampling. Sampel fitoplankton diambil dari 5 stasiun dengan menyaring air sebanyak 40 liter pada tiap stasiun. Selanjutnya dilakukan pengindetifikasian jenis dan jumlah fitoplankton. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa keanekaragaman fitoplankton terdiri dari 4 kelas Chlorophyceae, Bacillariophyceae, Euglenophyceae dan Cyanophyceae. 11 ordo, 14 familia, 16 genus dan 16 spesies.  Kelimpahan fitoplankton dengan nilai densitas yang terendah 9,37 ind/liter (pada stasiun 5), sedangkan nilai tertinggi 28,71 ind/liter (pada stasiun 3). Indeks dominansi yang tertinggi pada stasiun 5 dengan nilai 0,36 dan nilai terendah pada stasiun 4 dengan nilai 0,19.  Indeks keanekaragaman dari kelima stasiun pengamatan tergolong sedang dengan nilai masing-masing 1,59 (stasiun 1), 1,41 (stasiun 2), 1,89 (stasiun 3), 1,79 (stasiun 4) dan 1,19 (stasiun 5).Kata kunci : keanekaragaman, fitoplankton, kolam retensi

Abstract

Research of  zooplankton community structure in a retention pond Kambang Iwak Palembang was held in May 2016 until June 2016 in the retention pond Kambang Iwak Palembang, aims to determine the community structure of zooplankton.  Zooplankton samples were taken from five stations. Subsequently the samples were identified and analyzed include abundance, dominance and diversity index. Results showed that the composition of zooplankton in the retention pond Kambang Iwak Palembang City composed of 10 species are Astasia sp, Cyclops sp, Moina weismenni, Scopholeheris mucronala, Philodina sp, Retatoria, Alona sp, Branchionus falcatus, Daphnia pulex, Leptodora sp. Abundance highest total in five stations owned by Cyclops sp species, amounting to 9.38 ind / l. The highest dominance index has a value of 0.29, so it can be said there is no species that dominate the waters of the lake. Diversity of zooplankton in five stations categorized as Low to Medium with a diversity index of between 0.86 to 1.41Keywords : zooplankton, retention pondABSTRAK Penelitian tentang struktur komunitas zooplankton di kolam retensi Kambang Iwak Kota Palembang telah dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei  sampai Juni 2016 di kolam retensi Kambang Iwak Kota Palembang, untuk mengetahui struktur komunitas zooplankton yang terdapat di sana. Sampel zooplankton diambil dari lima stasiun , selanjutnya diidentifikasi dan dianalisis meliputi kelimpahan, dominansi, dan indeks keanekaragamannya. Hasil Penelitihan menunjukkan bahwa komposisi zooplankton di kolam retensi Kambang Iwak Kota Palembang terdiri dari 10 spesies, yaitu Astasia sp, Cyclops sp, Moina weismenni, Scopholeheris mucronala, Philodina sp, Retatoria, Alona sp, Branchionus falcatus, Daphnia pulex, Leptodora sp. Kelimpahan total di lima  stasiun tertinggi dimiliki oleh species Cyclops sp, sebesar 9,38 ind/l. Indeks dominansi tertinggi memiliki nilai 0,29, sehingga dapat dikatakan tidak ada species yang mendominasi perairan danau. Keanekaragaman zooplankton di lima stasiun dikategorikan Rendah sampai Sedang dengan indeks keanekaragaman antara 0,86 – 1,41Kata kunci : zooplankton, kolam retensi

Abstract

Vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNT) synthesized at different ferrocene concentration by thermal decomposition of bio-hydrocarbon source namely palm oil were investigated for field electron emission application. The ferrocene concentration ranges from 0.5 to 3.5 wt% and the as-prepared VACNT were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy and micro-Raman spectroscopy. It was clearly shown that a controlled increase in the mixture of ferrocene and palm oil was important in improving field emission behaviour. The samples synthesized using 2.5 wt% ferrocene concentration proves to be the optimum concentration as for lowest turn-on (corresponding to the current density of 0.1 mAcm-2) and threshold field (corresponding to the current density of 1 mAcm-2) at 3.17 and 4.07 Vµm-1 respectively in comparison with other concentration. The sample also demonstrates highest peak current of 8.0 mAcm-2 at a field of 5.5 Vµm-1 as well as less degradation during one hour emission stability testing. Key words: Carbon Nanotubes, Palm oil, Chemical vapor deposition, Field electron emission, Scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectra, catalytic methods.
