Abstract

Clarias meladerma Bleeker, 1846 is one of the native species in Indonesia. Aek Silom Lom is one of the habitats of catfish moma (C. meladerma) located in Labuhanbatu district. The study was conducted to analyze the long-weight relationship and the condition factors of catfish moma (C. meladerma) that live in Aek Silom Lom. Sample collected from October- December 2021. Sample was taken by angler. This weight length relationship is calculated using the linear allometric model (LAM), while the condition factor is calculated using the fulton formula (K) and relative weight (Wr). The growth pattern of catfish moma (C. meladerma) in Aek Silom lom is allometric negative with a value of b 0.99 (b<3), this means that the growth of the fish's body length is faster than the body weight. The fulton coefficient (K) is between 14,889 -17.1292 and the relative weight coefficient (wr) is in the range of 97.32805-100.0745, indicating that the condition of the catfish population (C. meladerma) is in balance and the water conditions of Aek Silom Lom can support the life of the catfish moma (C. meladerma)

Abstract

Nicandra physalodes belongs to the Solanaceae family that introduce from Peru as an ornamental plant for long ago. This species was naturalized in Java, particularly in Dieng Plateau Central Java and Malang East Java. Furthermore, N. physalodes has been identified as a host of tomato severe rugose virus (ToSRV) in Brazil and as an invasive species in Indonesia. Botanical information and ecological data of this species are still limited knowns, although it has long been discovered in Java. Therefore, the study aims to update the morphological data and range distribution of N. physalodes in West Java. Samples were conducted from vegetable gardens in Pangkalan Village, Ciwidey, Bandung West Java. Morphology data were observed based on living material collected in the field and identified using Flora of Java Book. The distribution data were obtained using a field survey, herbarium observations, and a literature review. Morphologically, the specimens collected from Ciwidey weresimilar to the description in Flora of Java. Seed morphology and stomata data were added to the morphological description of N. physalodes. New distribution in Ciwidey add extends the range of this species outside of its origin area in Java.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the quality of Selagan River, Bengkulu based on its water physico-chemical parameters and macroinvertebrate diversity. Data were collected at three stations, Lubuk Bangko (upstream), Lubuk Sahung (middle) and Tanah Rekah (downstream) in April 2019 represents the peak of rainy season, and September 2019 represents the peak of dry season. Macroinvertebrate sampling was carried out on three minutes sampling method, and the obtained samples were identified at least to the family level. The result indicated the physico-chemical of Selagan River are generally in a normal range, except for a bit higher temperature at Lubuk Sahung and Tanah Rekah during April sampling (31 and 32oC respectively). This research also found 508 of individual macroinvertebrates that were divided into 19 species (19 families; 4 class and 4 phyla). The Shannon wienner diversity index (H’) of macroinvertebrates from the upstream to downstream are 1.54; 2.20 and 0.84, while the Berger-Parker’s dominance index (BP) are ranging from 0.30 into 0.92. The number of EPT individual in each station from up- to downstream is 129; 40; and 0, with FBI index is 4.11; 5.23; and “infinity” consecutively. The combination of those several indices indicated that the upstream of Selagan river is still in a very good condition, the middle area is starting to degraded, while the downstream had been degraded and polluted by organic substances.

Abstract

Many of potential enzymes can be found in the ecoenzyme, one of them is amylase. Amylase is an enzyme that is able to hydrolize the glycoside bonds of starch or starch into dextrin, glucose and maltose which is widely used in various industries such as beverages. This study aims to isolate the ecoenzyme bacteria and test their ability to produce amylase. Isolation of ecoenzyme bacteria was carried out using serial dilution methods 10-1, 10-3, 10-5. A total of 0.1 ml of each dilution series was pipetted and spread on the Nutrient agar (NA) medium. The bacterial isolates that grew were then purified and identified by morphological observation, Gram staining and their enzymatic activity was tested using Starch Agar (SA) media qualitatively. The results of this study showed there were 39 bacterial isolates from ecoenzyme with different morphological characteristics. The amylase activity test were found that 34 isolates had a positive activity to hydrolize the starch in the SA media which was indicated by the formation of a clear zone around the bacterial colonies. Each bacterial isolate had a different hydrolysis index value, which ranged from 9.45 to 23.65. The highest clear zone diameter index value from starch hydrolysis was EJM 15 isolate.

Abstract

Uric acid levels in the blood can be lowered by taking anti-hyperuricemic drugs, but long-term use can have serious effects on the body. Therefore, we need medicines made from natural ingredients that have a compound that can reduce uric acid levels with a low effect. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of hibiscus flower infusion on uric acid levels. The research method is experimental research with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Mice were divided into 6 treatment groups, the negative control group (normal) A0 was given 0.5% Na-CMC, A1 was hyperuricemia control (induction of potassium oxonate 250mg/kgBW and chicken liver juice), A2-A5 was treated with hyperuricemia. The treatment group A2 was given allopurinol 10mg/kgBW, A3-A5 was given hibiscus flower infusion at a dose of 20%, 30%, and 40%, respectively. The results showed that hibiscus flower infusion at doses of 20%, 30%, and 40% was able to reduce blood uric acid levels in male white mice induced by potassium oxonate and chicken liver juice. Hibiscus flower infusion has the potential to reduce uric acid levels in mice optimally at a dose of 20%, which is 80.8% of hyperuricemia control.
