Abstract

The author explores some ways and its importance to biographical study in the Qur’an and Hadith. The purpose of research on biographical studies is to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the thoughts, ideas, concepts, and theories of someone he examined. The considerations in conducting this kind of research, among others, for example, his/her controverciality, influence, popularity, uniqueness, the intensity on the field of study that would scrutinized, relevance and contributions of his/her thinking in the context of the present.

Abstract

Tulisan ini membahas metodologi untuk memahami kebenaran Islam dari sudut pandang beberapa tokoh figur penting yang ada di UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Figur ini penulis sebut Metodologi mazhab Yogya dalam memahami kebenaran Islam. Tokoh-tokoh tersebut antara lain, M. Amin Abdullah, Machasin, dan Sahiron Syamsuddin. Pertanyaan besar yang diajukan untuk memahami metodologi mereka adalah apa saja nama atau istilah metodologi yang mereka gunakan, apa saja paradigma, teknik, serta aspek apa saja yang melatarbelakangi lahirnya metodologi tersebut.

Abstract

This article elaborates al-Ghazali ideas on the qur’anic hermeneutical concept. The author concludes that al-Ghazali’s qur’anic hermeneutical concept has similarities with the theory of philosophical hermeneutics initiated by Gadamer in practice. It can be understood from the various interpretations expressed in the book Nahwa Maud}ū’i Tafsir al-Qur’an li Suwar al-Karīm. But even so, one thing that is emphasized by Muhammad al-Ghazali in his interpretation of the Qur’an that the Quran is a unified whole that must be understood in the context of a whole.

Abstract

This article discusses Jane Dammen Mcauliffe, an orientalist. He was one of the orientalist who was keen to study of Qur’an. His interest rest on religiosities issues, especially about the views of Islam on Christians. The conclusions derived from this article, the study of the appreciation of Qur’an on Christians that has been done by Mcauliffe in his works, at least provide a new view that Qur’an substantially do not discredit the religious groups outside of Islam. This perspective, in the context of the relationship between religions, is very important to be voiced. With that kind of junderstanding, the interpretation on Qur’an will be able to transform from exclusivity to inclusivity. Thus, al-Qur’an is no longer made as the legitimacy by certain groups to attack other groups.

Abstract

The article that is written by Umar Abidin discusses al-Tustari’s theory of ta’wīl and his interpretation of certain verses, which can be called ta’wīl. According al-Tustari, every word of the Qur’an has four kinds of meaning: zahir (exoteric meaning), batin (essoteric/hidden meaning), hadd (legal meaning) and matla‘ (deepest meaning). An attempt to grasp the hidden and deepest meaning is called ta’wīl . In order to elaborate al-Tustari’s ta’wīl, the author of this article also discusses his interpretation of Surat al-Nur: 35. In conclusion, Abidin says that al-Tustari had made a significant contribution to the sufistic interpretation of the Qur’an.

Abstract

In this article the author elaborates the works of Abu al-Baqa’ al-’Ukbari, I’rāb al- Hadis al-Nabawī. The appearance of this work is effected by the concerns of nuhat to the phenomenon of lahn in matan. There are a number of 125 transmitters that he criticize on nahwiyah perspectives. Of these 10 are women. Not all elements of the structure of matan he elaborates, only certain words in the matan deemed or alleged to have or contain ambiguity aroused assumptions of lahn. The work of al-’Ukbari is thought as the first work in the corpus studies of Hadis.
