Jurnal Elemen is a media for publishing scientific articles in the field of mechanical and automotive engineering which are published regularly in June and December each year. All articles presented are the results of research, conceptual ideas and reviews in the field of mechanical and automotive engineering that have never been published before. Jurnal Elemen managed by P3M in the Tanah Laut State Polytechnic has been ISSN, namely the printed version of ISSN 2442-4471 and online version of ISSN 2581-2661, and for now the Elementary journal has been indexed in ISJD (Indonesian Scientific Journal Database) in PDII-LIPI . then it can be indexed and accredited at SINTA, DOAJ and Scopus.

Abstract

In this study, a method of improving the performance of Waru fiber reinforcement composites by NaOH and AESO coating treatment is reported. Waru fiber (WF) as composite filler was varied raw WF (WR), NaOH treated WF (WH) and NaOH+AESO coating treated WF (WHC) and tested for mechanical characteristics, water absorption, and morphology of the composites. The results showed that the bending and tensile strength increased the highest by 27.65% and 58.66% respectively for WHC composites. AESO coating treatment decreased the elongation percentage of the composite but increased the elastic modulus of the composite. The SEM photo morphology of the composites showed fiber clumping, fiber pull out, and trapped voids. NaOH-treated WF showed better interface bonding with the polyester matrix. For the AESO coating treatment, the WF-polyester matrix surface interaction was observed with hackles appearing on the composite fracture surface.

Abstract

A prosthetic foot mold can be created using CAD technology. With the help of CAD software, the creation of a prosthetic foot mold can produce multiple sizes using just one size as the initial reference. The initial shape of the prosthetic foot can be obtained through a 3D scanning method, which can then be processed by CAD software. Once the mold design is complete, a fabrication simulation process can be performed using CAM software. This method enables the mass production of permanent prosthetic foot molds quickly and efficiently.

Abstract

Energy is a basic need that can support many things. Fossil energy accounts for 80% of the world's needs, this energy has an environmental impact. One of the new renewable energy (EBT), namely fuel cell, in its development has obstacles where the catalyst is expensive. This study aims to determine the characteristics of pyrolysis activated carbon as a catalyst supporting carbon fuel cell. corn cob waste is processed into activated carbon by being influenced by temperature and holding time. The temperature variation of the study was 400° and 500° with a residence time of 60 Minutes. The resulting carbon is tested proximate to determine the water content, ash content, volatiles, and bound carbon content. Based on the proximate test, the temperature variation of 400 ° produces the highest moisture content in the figure of 8.8% but still meets SNI No.06-3730-1995. The temperature variation of 500° produces the highest bound carbon at 74.35% in accordance with SNI No.06-3730-1995 so that it has the potential to support fuel cell catalysts.

Abstract

Cassava stem waste, abundant in Indonesia (90% post-harvest), shows high potential as a carbon raw material due to its lignocellulose content. This research investigates the effect of pyrolysis temperature and residence time on the moisture content of the resulting carbon charcoal. Using an experimental method with a fixed-bed reactor, cassava stem biomass was pyrolyzed at varying temperatures of 300℃ and 400℃, and residence times of 15 minutes and 30 minutes, and then tested for its moisture content. The results indicate that the charcoal's moisture content tends to increase with rising temperature and residence time, attributed to an increase in the charcoal's hygroscopic properties. Nevertheless, all testing variations produced charcoal with a moisture content below 15% as per SNI 06-3730-1995, with the lowest moisture content (3.8%) achieved at 300℃ and 15 minutes.
