Abstract

Students with low mental disabilities have limitations in intellectual matters and have difficulty in learning the addition and subtraction of integers 1-50. The purpose of this study was to describe the thought process of low mentally disabled students in solving integer and subtraction problems associated with media use that students often encounter through observation. The thought process referred to refers to the Piaget stage indicator, namely the occurrence of disequilibrium, assimilation, or accommodation. This type of research is qualitative descriptive. The subjects in this study were two students with low mental disabilities in class V MI Al Kawtsar Panti Jember, East Java, Indonesia. The stages in this study are 1. giving questions, 2. determining trends according to theory and 3. interviewing. Both subjects cannot understand the sentence in the question and answer the question inconsistently. In addition, the two subjects were only silent when they did not know the purpose of the researchers' questions about understanding the questions. Subjects experience assimilation when the subject can immediately answer questions from the researcher spontaneously regardless of the correct or correct answer. The two subjects also experienced accommodation when they paused for a moment before answering correctly the questions from the researcher. So that the tendency of low mentally disabled students to solve the addition and reduction problems of integers is to experience the three stages of thinking according to Piaget even though that is done with a maximum approach from a researcher.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the analysis of students to understand the concept of the Three Variable Linear Equation System (SPLTV) based on the APOS theory (Action, Process, Object and Schema). This research did in the three students class X of MA Miftahul Huda Kepanjen. With students high (A), medium (B) and low ability categories(C). The results of the study show that highly capable subjects have an understanding of the stages of APOS (action, processes, objects and schemes). Subjects who are capable of having did’t understanding at the stage of process. While low-ability subjects have an understanding of the stages of action. In this description get node action the students tight with to understand the concept of the materi. So, researcher proposition of the teacher for notice the process materi in this study mathematics.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' metacognitive abilities in solving math problems in terms of gender. The type of research used in this research is qualitative with a descriptive exploratory approach. The subjects of this study were two students of grade 7 SMP Negeri 2 Sukatani. The instruments used were tests and interviews. With the data analysis technique using 4 flow, namely: 1) data collection, 2) data reduction, 3) presentation of data, and 4) drawing conclusions. The indikators used are three elements, namely planning, monitoring, and assessment (evaluation). The results of this study indicate that male students are not good enough to apply metacognition skills in solving math problems, because male students have not met the three indikators, only reaching 1 indikator, namely at the planning stage. Meanwhile, female students have implemented metacognition skills well, because they have fulfilled three indikators, namely planning, monitoring, and evaluation

Abstract

The objectives of this study are: 1) To determine the differences in learning outcomes shown by students who learn using the NHT-type cooperative model and conventional learning on the learning outcomes of vocational school students in Sampang on the subject of financial mathematics (annuity). 2) the difference in learning outcomes shown by students who have high learning motivation with students who have low learning motivation towards learning outcomes of vocational school students in Sampang on the subject of annuity. 3) To determine the interaction between the use of the cooperative learning model type NHT and conventional learning, as well as student motivation on learning outcomes of vocational students in Sampang on the subject of annuity. This type of research is an experiment with research subjects of class XII students, the instruments are tests and questionnaires. The homogeneity of the research subjects was tested by using the independent sample test. Data normality was tested with one sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov. Hypothesis testing uses two way ANOVA by displaying the average value of descriptive statistics as a level of differentiation. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that: 1) There are differences in learning outcomes shown by students who learn using the NHT type cooperative model and accepted conventional learning with a significance level of 0.000 (<0.05). The highest mean is found in the NHT type learning model which in total obtained results of 89.27. 2). There are differences in learning outcomes shown by students who have high learning motivation with students who have low learning motivation who are accepted with a significance level of 0.000 (<0.05). The highest mean is found in high learning motivation, which in total is 88.84. 3) There is a significant interaction between the NHT type learning model, conventional and learning motivation on student learning outcomes on the subject of annuities received at a significance level of 0.001 (<0.05). While the highest mean is found in the interaction between the NHT type learning model with learning motivation of 89.74.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the steps for solving mathematical problems by students' understanding of the geometric material in story problems based on the Polya technique. This research was conducted in one of the Islamic elementary schools in Batu City on six students in grade 6. The approach taken is to use a descriptive qualitative approach. The research was carried out using triangulation methods, namely observing the problem-solving process, interviews, and reviewing documents (students' work). Interviews in this study were conducted with several students, namely two high ability people, two low ability people, and two medium ability people. The analysis was carried out by concluding the data obtained based on the observations that have been made. The study results showed that the Polya technique showed different results on the results of solving the problems of each category of students in solving story problems about the area of squares and rectangles. Based on these results, it can be seen that students' understanding of the geometry material on the story problem.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore information about the challenges, difficulties, and mistakes that experienced by students in solving passage questions with the material of the Linear System with Two-Variable based on the Newman procedure. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The subjects of the research consisted of 6 students from 31 students eight grade of MTs. Miftahul Ulum Bululawang with 2 upper groups, 2 intermediate groups, and 2 lower groups. The data are collected using exercises (question and answer) and interviews. The data validity test was performed by using triangulation techniques. Data analysis is carried out based on Newman's error indicators, those are reading, understanding the problem (Comprehension), transforming the problem (Transformation), process skills, and writing the final answer (Encoding). The results of this study indicate that the mistakes made by the upper group are the type of misreading (Reading), understanding the problem (Comprehension), transformation problem (Transformation), processing skills problem (Process Skills), and problem in writing the final answer (Encoding). The types of mistakes that the intermediate group made are reading, process skills, and final answer writing (Encoding). The type of mistakes made by the lower group is reading (Reading). Students do not write the variables used for example.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students interest in learning mathematics, especially in the material of three variable linear equation systems. The subjects of this study were X class high school students in one of the public high schools in Karawang. The research instrument used was students interest with 18 item statements containing positive statements and negative statements and containing 4 (four) indicators of interest in learning, including : 1) Feelings of pleasure/like, 2) Attention, 3) Interest, and 4) Student involvement as well as the results of observations during the mathematics learning process, especially in the SPLTV material. The results obtained in this study indicate that each indicator of students interest in learning falls into the sufficient category with a proportion of more than 50%.

Abstract

The purpose og this study was to describe the critical thinking skills of students with high, medium, and low math abilities in solving math problems. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects of this study were 3 students of class XI MIPA at SMA Negeri Ngoro Jombang, with categories of high, medium, and low mathematical abilities. Methods of data collection in this study using the method of tests and interviews with the main instruments of the researchers themselves and supporting instruments in the form of test sheets for the ability to think critically in mathematics and interview guidelines. Checking the validity of the research data was done by triangulating time. Data analysis techniques are carried out by reducing, presenting data, and make conclusions The results of this study reveal that the indicator of the ability to think critically in mathematics in solving math problems was that students present the information that was known and what requested from the questions correctly, presents information that had not been clearly stated in the questions and the information needed to solve the problems, presents conclusions of concepts / ideas that are relevant to solving the problem, and presenting the steps for completion in a coherent and correct manner and presenting the correct result of solving the problem. The ability to think critically in mathematics of students who have high abilities in solving questions is able to meet all indicators of critical thinking skills, students who are able to think critically in mathematics who are moderate in solving questions are able to meet the three indicators of critical thinking abilities because students are unable to present the correct results, while the ability critical thinking mathematics students with low ability to solve problems are only able to meet two indicators of critical thinking skills, namely students are only able to present the information that is known and the things that are requested from the questions correctly, presenting information that has not been clearly stated in the questions and the information needed to solve the problem.

Abstract

This study aimeds to determine the mathematical ability of vocational students in solving the HOT type three-variable linear equation system problems. This research was a qualitative descriptive study. The data collection methods were written tests and interviews. The subjects of this study were nine students of class XI Pharmacy, SMK St. Agustinus Kefamenanu, Province Nusa Tenggara Timur. Two students with low mathematical ability, two students with moderate mathematical ability, and twostudents with high mathematical ability were selected to be interviewed. The research suggest that, students with high mathematical ability and students with moderate mathematical ability are able to work on questions at the analyzing and, evaluating stage, but have not yet reached the creating stage. Students are still working on problems using the method given by the teacher. Students with low mathematical ability are only able to work on problems at the analyzing stage.
