Abstract

Carrying capacity analysis at Bantam Mariculture Estate was conducted todetermain their optimal production capacity and number of fish cages settingfor sustainable aquaculture development within this area. The analysis wasdesign on the material balance base of the nitrogen input and output wherethe aquaculture system of fish rearing on the cages was assumed as theblack box system. To support the analysis, physical and chemical parameters such as current speed and dissolved in organic nitrogen (ammonia, nitrate and nitrite) were included on the analysis to understand their flushing rate as key factor that showing of the ecosystem ability on the reduction of the pollutant concentration. The calculation result shows that fish production capacity of BatamMariculture Estate was high that is up to 3 thousand ton peryear for 3thousand unit of fish cages. Flushing rate was excellent that is within rangeof 30 – 60 million m3/hours with the ability of the ecosystem to avoid thepollutant is less than 10 hours. The nitrogen and ammonia released on theenvironment are low that are around 0.004 – 0.008 mg/days and 0.002 –0.004 mg/days respectively. These value are below of the minimum levelpermitted for the aquaculture.

Abstract

Corral reef in Indonesia is one of the ecosystem would be heavily damagedas same as a rain forest ecosystem. The main source of damage come fromhuman activities as land base pollution activity and un-wise fishing.Meanwhile, above problem didn’t solve clearly, The potencial threat hasbeen occured. Corral reef has bleach since climate change occur in the fewdecades. This article showed about what is corral reef bleacing, what is themain problem and how to conserve it.

Abstract

Perifiton are water microorganisms that live sessil on the substrat, and they contribute to build sea water biodiversity. Perifiton are able to live on the substrat that there is no life before so that perifiton can be mentioned as the pioneer to build a new ecosystem. Perifiton community can cause new community such as mussel community and fish community with the result that they form a new ecosystem. This perfiton role is used in green mussel culture in Kamal Muara, Jakarta Bay. This research tries to estimate the perifiton community growth that lives in the area of green mussel culture in Kamal Muara. The research shows that perifiton community is dominated by Bacillariophyceaeand Chlorophyceae. The value of biodiversity index is 1.72-301, the value of evennes index is 0.39-0.72 and the dominancy index is 0.17-0.57.

Abstract

Tirta Shinta reservoir located at Wonomarto, North Kotabumi Lampung. Fiveteen year ago, this reservoir only use for wet rice field irrigation and the depth until 19 meter, but now the depth average just only 6 meter, many activities in the upper land and a lot of sedimentation. This reservoir condition be apprehensive, beside for used by irrigation, cultivation fish (karamba jaring apung) and tourisme, 40% surface water reservoir covered by grass wild and than degradation for fish production. Water quality for the Tirta Shinta reservoir still under standard quality (baku mutu) for fish. Dissolved oxygen (DO) surface water around 5 ppm, but at the bottom decrease until 2 ppm. Bakteri Coli containt is very hight until 1600 MPN/100ml, may be caused by a lot of fish cultivation activities, waste water domestic around the reservoir and no flushing water in the reservoir. Zeng (Zn) more until 0.112 mg/liter exceed quality standard (baku mutu) that is 0.05 mg/l. Ph relative acid around 5.5 – 6 and Pb under 0.001 mg/l.

Abstract

Water quantity is perceived as a problem to meet increasing demands of present human population for food, drinking, hygiene, and other domestic use and industry. However, quality aspect have also become a growing concern as a result of untreated release of domestic, urban and industrial discharges as well as non pint sources, e.g. agriculture. Citarum river basin is one of the biggest river basins in Indonesia. It covers 608 000 hectares, including 7 regencies and 2 cities (Bandung and Cimahi) in the province of West Java. Its huge source of freshwater have been contaminated from point and non-point sources of pollution, resulting in its very poor quality of very strategic and important source of freshwater in Indonesia for generating electricity, irrigating agricultural land, supplying fresh drinking water, and farming fish and also creating eco-tourisms. In order to protect this important freshwater resource, Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPP Teknologi) in collaboration with local government of West Java Province implementing environmentally sound technology to manage water quality of Citarum River Basin properly. The objectives of this project are (1) to protect freshwater resource from pollution, (2) to reduce pollution loads from point and non-point sources, (3) to introduce best available management for minimizing pollution, (4) to create sustainable community for best management practices to protect their water front village. Share experiences and exchange information, knowledge, and technology was done through ASEM Water Net to develop international partnership on Integrated River Basin Management.
