Abstract

The morphoedaphic index (MEI) has been used globally as a fish-yield estimator with widely divergent results. The fandamental concept of the MEI embraces standard thermodynamic theory, that of matter ( natrients) transported by energy within an open system. Of the three morphometric factors considered mean depth ,volume and area. The MEI is a reasonable compromise between unmanageable complexity and ecologic over simplification. Even so, its appropriate application presupposes both a fisheries and a limnological expertise, a rare disciplinary combination in those workers who might derive the greatest benefits from its use.In this paper, study on the determining of water productivity in artivicial lakes with morphoedaphic index analysis was showed.

Abstract

Research on Lebak (fresh water) convered 100 hectars that has been conducted at Tanjung Alai, Ogan Komering Ilir district South Sumatera. This research consist of land characteristics, type and properties of Lebak, particularly zonification of Lebak type, length and hight of flooding which determined Lebak zone, fluctuation of flooding, crop scheduling of rice and soybean. Main problem of Lebak were hight flooding in the wet season and drought in the dry season on the long flooding condition it do not able to be planted cash crops. Result showed that research site can be divided into 3 type of Lebak; first, shallow Lebak has average hight flooding –97 cmto 55 cm, length flooding period 5 months and time schedule of planting since January up to May and June until Oktober; second, medium Lebak has average hight flooding – 50 cm to 100 cm, 9 months flooding period, and time schedule of planting since February up to June and Juli until November; third, deep Lebak has average hight flooding –32 cm up to 140 cm, 10 months flooding period and time schedule of planting since Januari up to June and Juli until November.

Abstract

Balai Benih Ikan (BBI) is an aquaculture located in Tanah Datar district. Thisaquaculture experiencing water resources shortage. New water resources are needed for the aquaculture. The interpretation of imaging resistivity showed that at BBI, water resources lies between 70 to 100 meter depth. Aquifer thickness varies between 5 to 25 meters and were found at observation points 40 to 125 meter. Water resources at BBI was predicted found on top of the hard rock and thick layer. Water resources interpreted that the used daily as water trap on the rock layer. This existing BBI water resources are not the potential aquifer. Therefore BBI has shortage of water resources. In the future, water resources for BBI is suggested to be taken from groundwater about (100 – 160) meter to the west.

Abstract

Prior understanding of stock dynamics of adult fishes were unable to fully explain observed variability in stock size. It was realized that variable “year- class success” was most likely determined during early (larval-juvenile stages) in marine fishes. Survival of individuals at any stage of life requires adequate levels of performance against a variety of ecological challenges, such as obtaining food, evading predators and locating and remaining in suitable habitat. Knowledge of processes that strongly affect larval survival would provide early evidence of the abundance of the emerging year class.

Abstract

It is already known that several ecological factors affected phytoplankton distribution in coastal waters, but since the global increase of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) phenomenon, people pay more attention on nutrient enrichment. Previous researches showed that HABs phenomenon was happened at the Lampung Bay, especially Trichodesmium erythraeum and Pyrodinium bahamense (Widiarti, 2000). This study was focus on spatial distribution of phytoplankton around the Hurun Bay. Seventeen sampling sites were investigated for phytoplankton assessment and the result showed that a high phytoplankton distribution was found close to coastal area andgetting decreased toward offshore. This phenomena was support by total phosphate concentration where their high concentration was found close to coastal area. During the observation, it was found that Leptocyindricus dominate the area beside Chaetoceros, which was also dominance at the station 8. Total nitrogen and dissolved oxygen distribution were almost the same among those stations. Furthermore, it could be concluded as well that Hurun Bay was tend to phosphate limited area.

Abstract

This research was conducted to known water quality and phytoplankton dynamics in the coastal of Harapan island. The research reveal that during the period of research the coastal water of Harapan island was an olygotrophic withphytoplankton density about 654,7-1.745 cells/ml. The phytoplankton community in November was dominated by Thalassionema sp. (303.64 cells/ml); in 10 December was by Pseudonitzchia sp (117,7 cells/ml); in 7 January was byChaetoceros sp (218 cells/ml), in 28 January was by Trichodesmium sp; (727,3cells/ml) and in 22 April was by Chaetoceros sp. (775.8 cells/ml). It have to payattention to the dominating phytoplankton community by Pseudonitzchia sp andTrichodesmium sp due to their bloom will create negative impact to otherorganisms and ecosystem stability.
