Abstract

An impact of the land surface run off on the water quality was observed at Batam Mariculture Estate during the flood tide of the Southeast Monsoon. The existing of land surface run off was significantly identified on the increasing of the turbidity as well as total suspended solid (TSS) concentration in the nearby of the upper eastern part of the shoreline and it spread up to the southern part driven by surface current. As consequence, the water quality was degraded, particularly on the water transparency. The land surface run off was also increasing the phosphate concentration that stimulated and promoted on the increasing of the chlorophyll-a and dissolve oxygen (DO). But the nitrogen compound (nitrate and nitrite), and silicate were not affected. Keywords: Land surface run off, water quality, Batam Mariculture Estate

Abstract

Spreading of wastes from 11 river mouths around the Jakarta Bay during the east and west monsoons is simulated in this study, making use of transport model. The data of wastes weight and concentration used in this study are obtained from “Marine and Jakarta Bay Wastes Prevention” pilot project conducted by the government of DKI Jakarta. In this simulation, it is assumed that the weight of daily outflow of wastes is constant and the composition of wastes is not taken into account. From the simulation results there are found that during the west monsoon, wastes in the Jakarta Bay mostly transported eastward, spread until 3 km and accumulated in the eastern part of the Jakarta Bay. Wastes with concentration more than 10 kg/L spread out to the offshore until 1 km from the shore line or river mouth. On the other hand, the wastes mostly transported westward during the east monsoon. These wastes spread westward until 5 km and mix with the wastes from the river mouths which are located in the western part of the Jakarta Bay. The amount of wastes which are spread westward during the east monsoon is greater than the amount of wastes which are spread eastward during the west monsoon. Keywords: Jakarta Bay, wastes, transport model

Abstract

Jakarta bay is a semi-closed waters located in north of Jakarta city. This waters has been getting pollutant such as domestic, organic and industrial waste, heavy metal or spill oil which trend to rise and it’s afraid to exceed its supportive capacity. To empty some rivers across Jakarta area into Jakarta bay, waters carry many pollutant. Every rives across Jakarta emty into Jakarta bay waters and it’s water quality is very effected by the condition of river water quality flowing to Jakarta bay. To know how bad the pollutan in Jakarta bay waters we have to check the condition of it’s water quality periodically. It is hope that the conclusion could be the ground to make preventions. Keywords: Jakarta Bay, water pollutant, waters quality database program development.

Abstract

It has been known that Jangari is an area in Cirata reservoir that could be developed as tourism area. Lately, in this area have been developing many cages for fish culture that produce organic waste in huge number and polute this area. This research was conducted to know the status and dynamic of water quality in Jangari that receive organic waste in huge number. This research concluded that Jangari water body could be cited as an eutrophic water body. This conclusion was due to (i). The concentrations of phosphorus was always higher than 0,016 mg·l-1P and nitrogen total was always higher than 0,711 mgxl-1N; (ii). The density of fitoplankton in 25 cm depth was between 36.590 x103 and 40.710x103 ind.l—1; whereas in 150 cm depth was between29.620 x103 and 36.370 x103 ind.l—1. This phytoplankton community was dominated by Cyanophyta (70,9%-78.2%); (iii). The vanishing point of secchi disc was always smaller than 71 cm. Although the community of phytoplankton was dominated by cyanophyta, especially Microcystis sp dan Oscillatoria sp that have been known as an unpalatable algae but the presence of zooplankton in the water body could be detected. During the research zooplankton was dominated by copepoda, cladosera and rotifera with density fluctuate between 34-394 ind.l—1.The eutrophic status for Jangari, will threaten the sustainable potency for tourism area; and therefore it was suggested to build one management for Cirata reservoir which could be hoped to plan, do and evaluate the development of Cirata appropriate to the potency and carryng capasity of reservoir. Keywords: Jangari, Organic waste, Phytoplankton, Eutrophic.

Abstract

The environmental characteristics of seed and broodstock of the grouper, a reef fish species was investigated in the Pangkep water area, South Sulawesi to understand the water quality of the physical and chemical parameters condition. The environment of the Pangkep area was found in a good condition and it is suitable for habitat of the grouper as a reef fish though in some area the reef has degraded due to the utilization of an illegal fishing devise such bomb and cyanide. But application of the local wisdom in some area of Pangkep has succeeded in protecting the reef and fish population to serve the life of the islands people. Keywords: The environmental characteristics, seed and broodstock, grouper, Pangkep
