Abstract

Urban development can affect climate element change, especially in downtown which is different from the surrounding, known as "Urban Heat Island (UHI)" phenomena. In this research we investigate air temperature changes on the land use and land cover by using case study in Bandung and Bogor on 1994 and 2001. We use the LANDSAT data of TM5 and ETM7 with spatial resolution of 30m x 30m, climate data from 1970-2003, and land use data from 1994-2003. The results shows that land cover causing the increase of temperature, i.e. residence, industry, and open land, were spreading. Consequently, UHI spreading over those area. Percentage of land use for residential area in Bogol was 11.3%, large than in Bandung (5.39%). Contrarily, larid cover causing the decrease of air temperature, i.e. high vagetation area (forest), seasonal plant, plantation, water badies, were decreasing. From the both investigated area, forest is decreasing, in Bogor the decrease 32.37% and Bandung 26.64%. Along with the changes of land use andland cover, so do air temperature changes. The increase of area related with air temperature in Bogor was 29.56% for temperature range (24-28)℃, while in Bandung was 21.79% for temperature range (24-29)℃. Area in Bandung having highest air temperature that increase was those with air temperature (28-29)℃, while in Bogor was those with air temperature (27-28)℃.

Abstract

Calculation using the Sheffield University plasmasphere ionosphere model (SUMIP) have shown that under certain conditions an additional layer (F3 layer) can form in the equatorial ionosphere. The F3 layer forms during the morning-noon period in the equatorial region where the combined effect of the upward ExB drift and neutral wind provides vertically upward plasma drift velocity at altitude near and above the F2 peak. The observation results over Biak and Parepare are shown that F3 layer may form in low latitude ionosphere. The observations result over Biak (1.20˚S, 136.04˚E, magnetic latitude 12.18˚S) on January 2005 shown the occurence of the F3 layer 75% of the days from 09:00 to 18:00 local time. The critical frequency of the F3 layer (foF3) exceeds foF2 by about 1 to 3 MHz, and the virtual height h'F3 ranges from 400 to 600 km. Generally, observation result indicate that the formation of F3 layer at low latitude is different with the equatorial region. Where, in addition to the fountain effects, the dynamical processes of the formation of this layer is influenced by the station location relative to the geographic equator.

Abstract

Aerosol background observation over Bandung (6˚54'S 107˚35'E) using LIDAR has being done since 1997 as a part of global LIDAR network coordinated by Japan. The 5 years dta shows that the Integrated Backscattering Coefficient at altitude 18-35 km is very small, in the order of 10-6 sr-1. It is 1/100 times compared to IBC over Japan 4 years after Pinatubo eruption. The altitude of IBC weight is relatively stable, in the range of 20-25 km.

Abstract

It has been known the effect of solar activities in satellite orbits. However, kinds and magnitude of the effect should be investigated for developing integrated model on space weather and satellite orbits. This paper reports the result of global analysis of longterm orbiting satellite with lifetime several solar cycle. It is obtained that there is segregation on satellite's decay time indicating enhancement of satellite decay during active solar. Analysis result on some longterm orbiting satellite, covering several solar cycles, indicate a significant drop on orbital element during maximum solar activity.

Abstract

The analysis of rainfall climatologic change of Aceh and Solok area using 103 years (1900-2003) data for wet season (DJF) and dry season (JJA) have been done. The result show that for Aceh area, for wet season (DJF) the maximum rainfall was 664 mm/month in 1926, which was in the normal condition. And for dray season (JJA) the rainfall condition for periods JJA-7. (1961-1990), JJA-8 (1971-2000) and JJA-9 (1981-2003) were under normal condition. For Solok area the maximum rainfall was 1972 mm/mounth in 1972, the rainfall condition for wet season (DJF) and dry season (JJA) are in the normal condition.

Abstract

In this paper we discuss a method to determinated extreme solar activity index (ESAI) which refer to X-ray (SXR) flare. ESAI-index is calculated by using the simple methods with the inputs are intensity and duration of SXR- flare. From the case study of solar storm at middle January 2005, ESAI-index is better for showing the solar activities impact to ionosphere. However, it still need further study by adding more spatial and temporal data.
