Abstract

Research on determination of total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of bidara leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) has been conducted. This study aimed to determine the total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of bidara leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) by using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Total flavonoid content was determined at a wavelength of visible light 437.55 nm using a comparison of quercetin. Antioxidant activity was performed by measuring DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging by UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 516.94 nm. Free radical scavenging activities carried out by comparison with Troloks® radical. This study showed that total flavonoid content of ethanol extracts of bidara leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) is equal to 1.5312%, and IC50 90.9584 ppm. This result indicates that the ethanol extract of bidara leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) has potential as a powerful antioxidant.

Abstract

The research about irritation test of antioxidant cream from fermented Rosella’s flower infusion using emulgator Novemer has been conducted. This research was aimed to found emulgator Novemer’s concentration that using in the formula of antioxidant cream has the irritation effect on the rabbit’s skin. This research utilized 6 rabbits with the skin has been abraded at the back for a 1-square-inch, those for each irritant sample using 3 formulas of the antioxidant cream I, II, III, (have variation in concentration of emulgator Novemer) and its cream base. The test is measured by patch test by Draize. The results indicate to primary irritation index of the three formulas of antioxidant cream and the cream basics are middle irritating (irritation index 0.5 - 2)

Abstract

Curcuminoid is a compound contained in turmeric (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb) that act as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective and antibacterial. This research aimed to obtain a gel formula from ethanol extract of Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb that has good physical stability by using Carbomer® 940 as a gelling agent. Gel made in six formulas with extract and various concentration of Carbomer® 940 and evaluated physically such as organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, spreading power, and adhesion before and after accelerated test. The data were analyzed using paired T-test. The result showed that formula 6 with 2% Carbomer is the best and physically stable before and after the stress condition. Formula 6 showed a homogeny gel with brownish yellow color, specific odor, texture soft and viscous. The value of viscosity, pH, spreading power, and adhesion respectively was 185,000 mPas; 6.8; 6.8 cm; and 44.16 seconds

Abstract

Abstract

Antioxidant are compounds neutralizing free radicals. Based on the previous research, in the flesh of tamarind fruit contains flavonoids that act as antioxidant. This research aimed to determine the antioxidant activity on the extract of tamarind fruit flesh (Tamarindus indica L). Antioxidant activity was done using the reduction method of free radicals by DPPH (1,1- DiPhenyl-2-Picryl Hidrazil). Antioxidant assay of the tamarind fruit flesh extract was measured using UV-VIS Spectrophotometer at the maximum wavelength 0f 515,23 nm with various concentrations of 50, 100, 200, 250 and 300 ppm. The comparison used was quercetin with concentrations of 1, 2, 3 and 5 ppm. The calculation showed that the tamarind fruit flesh has antioxidant activity with IC50 values 740,833 µg/mL and the quercetin has IC50 values 1,045 µg/mL.

Abstract

Myrmecodia (Myrmecodia pendens) is an epiphytic plant with several active chemical constituents as antioxidants including flavonoids, tocopherol, and tannins. This research aimed to obtain the formula of emolien lotion of the ethanol extract was obtained by soxhletation method using ethanol 96%. In the initial stage of formulation the emulsifier used was first optimized, then formulated and tested its physical stability, such as other organoleptic test, pH, homogeneity, emulsion type, creaming, dispersiibility, viscosity, and the determination of the type of flow before and after the stressed conditions. The data obtained were processed by anova two replication in Microsoft Excel worksheet 2010. The result of myrmecodia extraction were obtained the rendamen of 26,00078%, while the result of the optimization showed that TEA-Stearat 3-7% and Tween 80-Span 80 5% more stable. The results of stability test showed that the anionic emulsifier formula (TEA-Stearat 3-7%) and nonionic emulsifier (Tween 80-Span 80 5%) were physically stable.

Abstract

Ginger extract are known to have antiinflamatory effect at a dose of 200 mg. In order to be applied to the skin, ginger extract must be formulated into stable emulgel. This study aims to formulate and evaluate the physical stability of emulgel from ginger extract using carbomer® 940 as gelling agent with concentration variation 0,5%, 1%, 1,5% and 2%. Physical stability evaluation was conducted including organoleptic test, pH, spreading test, adhesion test and viscosity test. From the research result it is obtained yellow and distinctive odor of emulgel. pH of all emulgel formula were 6. Adhesion test result of formula 5, 6, 7, 8 were 00.63, 19.03, 50.84 and 60.50 respectively. Spreading test result from formula 5, 6, 7, 8 were 5,725, 4,875, 4,325 and 3,85 respectively. Viscosity test result were 2.200, 3.720, 4.000 and 7.720 for formula 5, 6, 7 and 8 respectively. According to paired sample T-test there was not significant differences between formula on pH test, viscosity test, adhesion test (p>0,05), before and after accelerated storage condition. In spreading test result showed a significant difference 0,000 (0<0,05) before and after accelerated storage condition.
