Abstract

Coatings of composite Chitosan/TiO2 on a surface of textile have been successfully performed. These coatings were done by dip-coating method. The variety of coatings textile were performed in 2, 4, and 6 coatings. The textile was coated by composite of Chitosan/TiO2 then characterized by FTIR Spectrometry, X-Ray Diffraction and Scanning Elelectron Microscopy (SEM). Based on the spectra of FTIR Spectrofotometry, XRD difractogram and imaging of SEM it can be concluded that hypothesized composite of Chitosan/TiO2 was coated on surface of textile but that hypothesis were still very weak and it need to be examined by performance test.

Abstract

The use of cassava starch for excipient in the manufacturing of the tablet has some problems, especially on physical-mechanical properties. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the differentness of temperature and pH in the process of modification on the physical-mechanical properties of modified cassava starch. Modifications were performed by suspending cassava starch into a solution of 3 % (w/v) PVP K30. The effect of the difference of temperature was observed at temperatures of 25; 45 and 65 0C, while the effect of the difference of pH was observed at pH of 4.0; 7.0 and 12.0. The results showed that the temperature and pH did not affect the physical-mechanical properties of the modified cassava starch. Modification of cassava starch at pH and temperature of 7.0 and 45 0C was produced modified cassava starch with the most excellent solubility, while the best swelling power were formed by the modification process at pH and temperature of 7.0 and 25 0C. Overall, the most excellent compression properties of modified cassava starch resulted from the modification process at pH 12.

Abstract

Study on cytotoxicity of diarylaniline derivatives by using quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) has been done. The structures and cytotoxicities of  diarylaniline derivatives were obtained from the literature. Calculation of molecular and electronic parameters was conducted using Austin Model 1 (AM1), Parameterized Model 3 (PM3), Hartree-Fock (HF), and density functional theory (DFT) methods.  Artificial neural networks (ANN) analysis used to produce the best equation with configuration of input data-hidden node-output data = 5-8-1, value of r2 = 0.913; PRESS = 0.069. The best equation used to design and predict new diarylaniline derivatives.  The result shows that compound N1-(4′-Cyanophenyl)-5-(4″-cyanovinyl-2″,6″-dimethyl-phenoxy)-4-dimethylether benzene-1,2-diamine) is the best-proposed compound with cytotoxicity value (CC50) of 93.037 μM.

Abstract

Sago Baruk (Arenga microcarpha) is one of endemic crop type of Archipelago of Sangihe Talaud, North Sulawesi and potential as source bioactivities including antioxidant. The objectives of this research were to determine the chemical characteristics and antioxidant activity of starch sago baruk which was sequentially extracted with water and filtrate. The sago trunks pith was sequentially extracted with water and filtrate at room temparature for 1 hour. After that, starch of sago baruk were analyzed for their chemical composition (moisture, fat, protein, ash crude fiber and charbohydrate) and total phenolic and tannin condensed content. Antioxidant activity of each sago flour were evaluated in 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging and total antioxidant capacity. After that, the starch was characterized by IR spectroscopic technique. The sequential extraction result indicated percentage yield of starch I and starch II were 41.39% and 38.21%. The chemical characteristics of starch I revealed that percentage protein, ash, crude fibre and fat were below 1% than starch II especially protein and fiber crude. The starch I had highest total phenolic and tannin condensed content than starch II and starch K. The starch I also showed the highest free radical scavenging activity in 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical than starch II and starch K. The result also showed that starch I has strongest total antioxidant capacity than starch II and starch K at all concentration level. Antioxidant activity of three starch increased with the increase in concentration of the samples. The three starch showed of hidroxy (OH), carbonyl (C=O), ether (C-O) and aliphatic group (C-C). It is concluded that starch sago baruk especially the starch I are very rich in antioxidant substituens.

Abstract

A study has been conducted to synthesize 1,4-bis [(1-hydroxy-4-t-butyl-phenyl)-methyl]piperazin using phenol derivate and investigate the capability of that compound, as an antioxidant. The synthesis was carried out through Mannich reaction using p-t-butylphenol, paraformaldehyde, and piperazine. The product was characterized by IR and 1H NMR spectroscopic. Testing of antioxidant activity was done with the immersion of DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2 picrylhydrazyl) free radical method. The product was obtained as a white solid, with a point of 252,7-254,7 ºC and a yield of 65.76%. The test of antioxidant activity with DPPH method showed that 1,4-bis [(1-hydroxy-4-t-butyl-phenyl)-methyl]piperazin had the IC50 values was 0.84 nM. It means that the 1,4- bis[(1-hydroxy-4-t-butyl-phenyl )methyl]piperazine has potential as antioxidants.
