Jurnal Entomologi Indonesia (JEI) publishes original research papers and short communications that covers the basic and applied aspect of insects and mites or other arthropods in agriculture, forestry, human and animal health, and natural resources and environmental management. The journal is published by Perhimpunan Entomologi Indonesia (Entomological Society of Indonesia). JEI was first published at the beginning of 2004 with twice per year in frequency on March and September. Since 2015, Jurnal Entomologi Indonesia has been published three times per year on March, July, and November.

Abstract

Studies on soil-dwelling predatory arthropods were carried out in lowland areas of South Sumatra, with objectives to analyze the species diversity and abundance of the predatoryarthropods inhabiting fields applied by synthetic insecticide, bioinsecticide, and without insecticide application. The predatory arthropods were sampled using pitfall traps. Indices of diversity and community similarities were applied to analyze the data. Results indicated that the arthropods inhabiting field without insecticide application had the highest diversity and abundance compared to other treatments. Predatory community similarities between those on the field without insecticide application and applied by bioinsecticide were higher compared to the fields applied by synthetic insecticide.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study the pathogenicity of Nomuraea rileyi (Farl.) Sams. to eggs and larvae of Spodoptera exigua Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). The fungi were isolated from insect cadaver of S. exigua. Egg clusters and several instar larvae with different conidial concentrations (106 – 109 conidia/ml) were used in the experiment. The results of experiment showed that there was no effect of all concentrations of fungi on egg mortality. Mortality of S. exigua larvae was dependent on the instar and conidial concentration. Generally with increasing conidial concentrations, the mortality were also increasing.

Abstract

One option to lessen the problems arising from the use of synthetic insecticides is to exploit plants that have insecticidal activities, such as species of Calophyllum(Clusiaceae). The study has been conducted to prepare insecticidal formulation from C. soulattri bark extract and to evaluate their residual activity against C. pavonana. Formulation prepared by using emulsifier, solvent, and sticking agent. Colour, acidity and emulsion stability were recorded as physic-chemical character of formulation. The result showed that the formulation of C. soulattri bark extract was stable, and their pH was normal. Bioassay of residual activity was done using leaf-residual method. Formulation of bark extract of 66 EC sprayed in suspension concentration of 1% on potted broccoli plant had residual activity around 70.7%-72% with range of half-lives of 9.4-9.6 days.

Abstract

Trichogrammatoidea armigera and Trichogramma japonicum are polyphagous egg parastioids, that are important as natural enemies. The objective of this research was to study the effect of host deprivation on reproductive capacity of T. armigera and T. japonicum. This study consists of 8 treatments, host deprivation : 0 hour, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, and 48 hours. Host were replaced every 24 hours. Results showed there are difference with respect of how the two parasitoids respond to the treatment. Deprivation of host for 3 hours in T. armigera resulted in the increase of egg production and parasitism rate. After 12 and 24 hours of not encountering any hosts, the numbers of eggs produced drastically decreased. Treatment on T. japonicum resulted in the reaction of fecundity and parasitism rate overall. Forty eight hours of host deprivation resulted in death of both parasitoids species within 2 days. None of the parasitoids seems to produce any egg.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to study the effectiveness of T. remus as biocontrol agent for S. exigua. The study was conducted by releasing a set of T. remus females on potted onion plants that have been attacked by S. exigua. Three different parasitism level was artificially created by releasing different numbers of females: low rate parasitism (release of 4 adult females), moderate parasitism (7 females) and high parasitism level (11 females). The result of this study showed that T. remus is effective to control S. exigua population. Up to 48.2% of S. exigua. population was able to be suppressed by the high parasitism level. Rate of parasitisation was more when more adult female T. remus was released. Release of 11 adult female of T. remus can increase the population level of the parasitoid up to 24.1 times than the initial population. This express that T. remus is a mortality factor which can regulate the population of S. exigua. However, the succesfull parasitisation of T. remus is also dependent on environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, food, and host suitability.
