Abstract

Integrity is very important for a leader. When a leader does not have integrity, then, sooner or later it will destroy the group or organization s/he leads. This occurs because the policies, decisions, attitudes, and actions made by the leader will have wide impact to the organization. A leader will be the center of attention of the members, and whatever they see in her/him will have a huge impact on the organization as a whole. Integrity has been given a lot of meaning; and everything is interconnected, which essentially refers to one's personal qualities, which make a person trustworthy and reliable. In the world of work, integrity appears in the form of good work performance or results. To be able to produce a good performance it is necessary to have competence. With integrity possessed the competence can be directed to produce a good performance. The problem that occurs is a lack of understanding of the relationship between integrity and performance. Generally, they are both understood separately, as stand-alone. But in reality the integrity is manifested through good performance. This applies also to a leader, which results a good performance in implementing ethical leadership. The purpose of this paper is to outline the relationship between integrity and performance, in which competence plays an important role. Integrity is the foundation for leadership, which makes it able to run and produce ethical leadership performance.

According to research and Teilhard theory, convergence of religions will transform one’s faith to God. Teilhard says that religions cannot be separated from evolution. Religions are in progress. In the beginning they teach to have individual salvation, and now to have salvation collectively. Collectiveness is signed by neo-humanism in modern age and the rising of intereligios diologue. This article is hoped to contribute the new sight how people’s faith and see the other religions and also strengthen interreligious diologue especially through living diologue.

Abstract

Online media faces the challenge the urgency of news delivery, fierce competition in capturing audience attention, and changing of audience demography toward younger audience. So, media workers are required to use various means to attract Internet readers. One of the ways is using simpler and more popular language in delivering the news. This study tries to find out if it prompts online news media to undermine formal language because the use of popular words that are still not accepted by Indonesia's language authority and the type of nonformal language used. Research used quantitave approach to analyze the usage frequency of nonstandardized language by two major online media in Indonesia: detik.com and kompas.com, and case study to analyze the nonstandardized titles used. Study concludes that detik.com used considerably higher percentage of nonstandardized words compared to kompas.com. In one day, around 5% of the news titles published by www.detik.com contained one or more nonstandardized words; while less than 0.002% of kompas.com's news title used nonstandarized words. Judging from the popularity of kompas.com, it can be assumed that interesting and attractive titles can still be written without nonstandardized language. Furthermore, the nonstandardized words used were mixed from foreign languages, local dialects as well as slangs usually used by youth. This assumption will be used as hypotheses for further study.

Abstract

In the world of composition teaching, teachers of writing play just as vital role. Their tasks are demonstrating, motivating, supporting, responding, and evaluating. The days of these teachers are often filled with editing and additional feedback sessions. Thus, in order to have a web especially designed as a tool for learning to write in ESL, the five tasks mentioned by Harmer should be made as important points to consider (teachers’ preferences). The content of such web should be also based on careful considerations that include factors like students’ preferences (user experience). It is to make sure that the web being created meets the preference of the users. With the thoughts, two groups of students were gathered in a study involving two writing classes in which online technology being used as a platform for students and Instructor to exchange ideas, review and edit drafts, provide writing tips links and leave comments on others’ pieces of writing. Students’ online activities were observed and their feedback during group discussion was used as the base to construct the content of the web.
