Abstract

Slope – deflection equation method is an analysis method to solve statically indeterminate structure. This method is a simple technique to analyze continuous beam, either prismatic or non prismatic. The technique for analyzing non prismatic beam is based on the prismatic beam concept, but with the introduce of some modification coefficient. These coefficients are available in some textbook discussing about structural analysis. This research has an objective to compare the analysis result of a continuous non prismatic beam, with slope – deflection equation method, and result from a structural analysis program (i.e. SAP 2000 v.11.00). The internal moment at the joints produced from this two method will be compared each other. The results show that there is a small difference resulted in internal moment, obtained from hand calculation with slope – deflection method and from software output. The differences resulted from this two techniques are 2 up to 6%. Based on this result it can be stated that slope-deflection method can be used to analyze statically indeterminate nonprismatic beam with some modification factors. The result obtained is nearly the same with one obtained from commercial softwares.

Abstract

Ground measurement helps illustrate a situation of land map to ease a civil engineer determining the center point of a building. From the situation map can determined the further works such as determining the point of building, land leveling, determining the point of the foundation and the volume of work for hoarding the land. A tool used for measurement activities is theodolite. Theodolite serves as a tool to determine the angle formed between the two points at the time of measurement. Drawing a situation map requires the results of the point measurement data. Theodolite is divided into two types, digital and manual. This study compares measurements results using both digital and manual theodolite performed at Kijang Campus, Binus University. From the comparison of data processing generated large differences in the coordinate system on the situation map with ranging from 1.31% to 322.67% on the abscissa axis and 0.39% to 41.83% on the ordinate axis.

Abstract

It has been known that a group pile lateral capacity is smaller than the sum of each pile capacity composing the group. A reduction factor, also known as efficiency factor, is required to determine the effective lateral capacity of group piles. To the authors’ knowledge, in most geotechnical text books, only the spacing of piles is considered in evaluating the pile group lateral capacity. No consideration on the effects of soil stiffness modulus and the total number of piles forming the group is taken into account. This research tried to investigate the influence of those factors by using geotechnical 3D finite element software, namely Plaxis 3D foundation. It is found that the bigger the number of piles in a group, the lower the efficiency factor is; the higher the soil stiffness modulus, the greater the efficiency is.

Abstract

Non destructive testing on piles can be divided into two main categories. The first category is to find out the integrity of the piles, such as pile integrity testing (PIT) and sonic logging. The second category is to find out the pile capacity, such as dynamic load testing/pile driving analysis. Since the early 1990s, the application of the tests was brought into practice and gained its popularity in Indonesia. However, the basic theory behind the testing has not been widely disseminated. This study tries to elaborate the first category of the testing, i.e. the pile integrity testing and sonic logging. The basic theory, the advantages and disadvantages, the application, the limitation and the interpretation of those techniques shall be discussed. Comparison on case studies of those testing methods also shall be given.

Abstract

A parking area is built in a building to facilitate vehicle users of the building. Based on this, Binus University planned to build parking area in its several campus. One interesting issue to explore is the parking capacity at Anggrek Campus. The purpose of this study was to determine the saturation levels of parking for the existing condition compared to the addition of new parking area. To perform analysis turnover parking calculation is used . Based on research results the number of cars entering Anggrek campus was greater than the volume of available parking at the campus (turnover = 1.58), so there was a lot of trouble to find a parking space that makes parking users find alternative parking spaces such as parking area 52). However, since the 8th floor parking area functioned, the turnover rate reduced to 0.54 which indicates that there was a saturation level decrease of 65%.

Abstract

Vacuum preloading is an alternative method to improve water-saturated soft clay by accelerating the consolidation process. A trial using GVS system was done at Pantai Indah Kapuk residence, Jakarta to investigate the system reliability. Monitoring equipments used include settlement plate to measure the consolidation decrease, piezometer to measure pore water tension, inklinometer to identify the soil direction and lateral movement during the vacuum preloading process, and manometer to measure the vacuum pump pressure. Analytical calculations to estimate the consolidation decrease is done using one-dimensional consolidation theory of Terzaghi. Besides, a numerical analysis is performed by element method up to Plaxis software application. Meanwhile, the monitoring results are achieved using Asaoka theory that estimates the achieved degree of reduction and consolidation. The monitoring results and theoretical analysis indicate that the GVS system included in the vacuum preloading method is quite reliable as an alternative method of consolidation acceleration of water-saturated soft clay.

Abstract

Bombings occurred in Indonesia mostly attack high-rise buildings. This fact should be a consideration for the structural engineer when designing high-rise building structures since the design of the structure does not include bomb blast burden in the calculation. This article discusses the dynamic response of buildings with of two plate stiffeners which are then given blast loads. The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of damping and the boom duration of the dynamic response of the plate. The plate is modeled damped orthotropic rectangular with semirigid placement on all sides. A decrease in plate element equilibrium equation is based on moment balance and forces on the plate. Meanwhile, the plate motion equations are derived using Newton's second law. The natural frequency of the plate system is obtained using the Modified Bolotin Method (MBM) as the numerical calculation process is completed with Microsoft Excel 2003 and Mathematica 5.2. Plates will be given damps as much as 0%, 5% and 10%. Each plate with each damp will be given blast loads for 1 ms, 2 ms, 10 ms and 20 ms. The research results shows that the greater the damp is used, the smaller system dynamic response will be. The longer the blast load works, the greater system dynamic response will be.

Abstract

This paper examines batch scheduling problem that has batching and sequencing in single formulation for multiple-item case. The first step is to develop a model for single item single resource discussed in Zahedi (2008). The model determined batch sizes and their schedule simultaneously in single item case. This paper develops the model and algorithm for multiple-item case. The model functions to minimize total actual flow times. An algorithm for the model is developed using a relaxation of the binary constraints. The binary values for the decision variables are obtained from steps provided in algorithm. A numerical experience showing characteristics of this problem is presented.

Abstract

As a public service provider the government faces a lot of problems associated with the improvement of public service quality through excellent service performance and high quality service products. Leadership factor also plays an important role in service organizations to ensure the effectiveness of the organization. Based on earlier ideas, a research is conducted towards the trade business license service delivery by local government of Tangerang which focuses on aspects of information systems management, service performance, and leadership in relation to the level of community satisfaction. There are several methods of data collection and information, such as questionnaires, interviews, field observation and literature study. The data collected were analyzed using the method of regression analysis, correlation analysis, and chi square test. The analysis showed that there is a significant relationship between the variables of the study. Therefore, it can be concluded that management information systems, service performance, and leadership has significant effects on the level of community satisfaction.

Abstract

Corn is one of the plants that people use for food. Therefore, to obtain a superior maize crop a research is required. The formation of hybrid maize varieties can be created through a series of crosses among tetua (the parent plant). This research is conducted for selecting tetua which can give good results based on testing the general affinity and specific affinity with Diallel analysis. General affinity indicates the suitability level of an elder for various crossing partners. While special affinity indicates a specific level of suitability partner. The data of general affinity and specific affinity test is obtained from the results of crossbreeding experiments using seven tetuas. To hold a faster and a more accurate analysis in calculating the general affinity and affinity cross plants, we use a computer system.
