Abstract

In this paper, we introduce the new method of Extraction and Analysis of Non-linear Features (EANF) for face recognition based on extraction and analysis of nonlinear features i.e. Locality Preserving Analysis. In our proposed algorithm, EANF removes disadvantages such as the length of search space, different sizes and qualities of imagees due to various conditions of imaging time that has led to problems in the previous algorithms and removes the disadvantages of ELPDA methods (local neighborhood separator analysis) using the Scatter matrix in the form of a between-class scatter that this matrix introduces and displayes the nearest neighbors to K of the outer class by the samples. In addition, another advantage of EANF is high-speed in the face recognition through miniaturizing the size of feature matrix by NLPCA (Non-Linear Locality Preserving Analysis). Finally, the results of tests on FERET Dataset show the impact of the proposed method on the face recognition.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i6.1773

Abstract

This paper presents an improved model of solar photovoltaic (PV) array along with the implementation of fuzzy logic as maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The proposed PV array behavioral model is more accurate and with reduced complexity though considered discrete components. The PV array model was well verified by considering the effect of change of environmental conditions, mainly intensity of solar irradiation (insolation) and temperature. The model was tested by feed a single phase inverter. MPPT control the operating voltage of  PV arrays in order to maximize their power output as a result maximize the array efficiency and minimize  the overall system cost. Using a Fuzzy logic based algorithm, the duty cycle of the converter inserted between source and load is adjusted continuously to track the MPP and compared with the conventional perturb and observed (P&O) method for changing environmental conditions. It was found that the Fuzzy logic based method can track the MPP more precisely and rapidly than the conventional one. In P&O method, if step size of input variable is very small, the accuracy in tracking MPP is sufficient but tracking speed becomes too slow. On the other hand if the step size is increased to imitate the rapidly changing weather conditions, accuracy deteriorates and unexpected results occur due to oscillation around a mean point although tracking speed increased. But in the case of proposed FLC whatever the step size of input variable it best suited to track MPP continuously and accurately. The obtained simulation results validate the competent of the solar PV array model as well as the fuzzy controller.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i6.1328

Abstract

In this paper, the performance of bandstop Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) is presented which can be used to provide wireless security on airports and other sensitive places, where a mobile phone can be used to set-off an explosive device. It can also be used to block the mobile signals at the places of worship, hospitals and cinemas where the annoying voice of a mobile phone may irritate the masses. The FSS unit cell consists of two metallic square-loop elements printed on FR-4 substrate with different periodicities. The outer and inner square-loop elements are tuned to 900 MHz and 1800 MHz, respectively. It has a stable frequency response at oblique incidences for both perpendicular (TE) and parallel (TM) polarizations. Simulation results are presented to give an overview for the performance of proposed FSS design.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i6.1820

Abstract

In this paper, the definition of information and data are presented with examples illustrating the differences between them. To articulate the value of information, the definition of quantities of information, based on information theory, generally considered to be founded by Claude Shannon, has been quoted. In addition, with corresponding mathematical derivations, specific examples are employed to manifest the factors that make information valuable. At last, we have a multifold discussion on the importance of information to economics.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i6.1795

Abstract

Distributed Generation (DG) and capacitors placement and also the tap setting of ULTC transformers can be used individually to improve the voltage profile and loss reduction. In this article the Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to optimize the multi-objective function for of DG and capacitor placement with tap setting of ULTC. The objective function consists the loss reduction, voltage improvement and increasing the available transfer capability (ATC) of the distribution network. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, it is applied to IEEE 41 bus radial distribution network. The results show that this method has a better effect on improving the objective functions.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i6.741

Abstract

For sustainable development of a country access to electricity in every moment is now the basic need for the current civilization. Power crisis is one of the major barriers for economic development of Bangladesh. Bangladesh lacks in fossil fuel reservation. Abundance of renewable energy sources in the form of solar energy, wind energy provides opportunities of renewable energy based hybrid energy system in the coastal areas of Bnagladesh. Energy generation by hybrid system reduces the generation cost and will help in balancing the cost of energy. Again a standalone renewable enegy incorporated hybrid energy system will reduce load demand from the grid and will be an eco-friendly energy system. This paper proposed a cost effective design of standalone solar-wind-diesel hybrid power system in a coastal area of Bangladesh. Considering different conditions for a coastal area design and simulation of the hybrid power system was performed. Detailed economic analysis and comparison with solar based and diesel based energy system clearly reveals that proposed hybrid power system was found a cost effective solution for coastal areas of bangladesh.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i6.830

Abstract

Electronic nose is a device detecting odors which is designed to resemblethe ability of the human nose, usually applied to the robot. The process ofidentification of the electronic nose will run into a problem when the gaswhich is detected has the same chemical element. Misidentification due tothe similarity of chemical properties of gases is possible; it can be solvedusing neural network algorithms. The attendance of Field ProgrammableAnalog Array (FPAA) enables the design and implementation of ananalog neural network, while the advantage of analog neural networkwhich is an input signal from the sensor can be processed directly by theFPAA without having to be converted into a digital signal. Direct analogsignal process can reduce errors due to conversion and speed up thecomputing process. The small size and low power usage of FPAA are verysuitable when it is used for the implementation of the electronic nose thatwill be applied to the robot. From this study, it was shown that theimplementation of analog neural network in FPAA can support theperformance of electronic nose in terms of flexibility (resource componentrequired), speed, and power consumption. To build an analog neuralnetwork with three input nodes and two output nodes only need twopieces of Configurable Analog Block (CAB), of the four provided by theFPAA. Analog neural network construction has a speed of the process0.375 μs, and requires only 59 ± 18mW resources.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i6.1501

Abstract

Recent years have witnessed the drastic development of World Wide Web (WWW). Information is being accessible at the finger tip anytime anywhere through the massive web repository. The performance and reliability of web engines thus face huge problems due to the presence of enormous amount of web data. The voluminous amount of web documents has resulted in problems for search engines leading to the fact that the search results are of less relevance to the user. In addition to this, the presence of duplicate and near-duplicate web documents has created an additional overhead for the search engines critically affecting their performance. The demand for integrating data from heterogeneous sources leads to the problem of near-duplicate web pages. The detection of near duplicate documents within a collection has recently become an area of great interest. In this research, we have presented an efficient approach for the detection of near duplicate web pages in web crawling which uses keywords and the distance measure. Besides that, G.S. Manku et al.’s fingerprint based approach proposed in 2007 was considered as one of the “state-of-the-art" algorithms for finding near-duplicate web pages. Then we have implemented both the approaches and conducted an extensive comparative study between our similarity score based approach and G.S. Manku et al.’s fingerprint based approach. We have analyzed our results in terms of time complexity, space complexity, Memory usage and the confusion matrix parameters. After taking into account the above mentioned performance factors for the two approaches, the comparison study clearly portrays our approach the better (less complex) of the two based on the factors considered.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v2i6.1746
