This paper proposed a new Nonlinear Discrete-Time Robust-Neural Observer (DTRNO) which capable to give estimation for the states of Discrete-Time Uncertain Non-affine Non-linear Systems in presence of external disturbances. The Neural network is a kind of discrete-time Multi Layered Perceptron (MLP) which Trained with an Extended Kalman-Filter (EKF) based algorithm, which this neural observer is robust in presence of external and internal uncertainties, using a parallel configuration. This work includes the stability proof of the estimation error on the basis of the Lyapunov approach, and for demonstrate observer performance an Uncertain Non-affine Nonlinear Systems have been simulated to formulations validate the theoretical. Simulation results confirm the proficiency of the DTRNO even at the different operating conditions and presence of parameters uncertainties.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i4.6171

Metallic particle contamination is one of the areas of insulation design that are considered critical. This paper demonstrates the control of metallic particles in gas insulated bus duct (GIBD) by using dielectric coating on the inside surface of the outer enclosure of a coaxial electrode system. Several models of GIBD with single and multi-contaminating particles will be studied. In this paper, the Finite Elements Method (FEM) is used to evaluate the electric field distribution on and around single and multi-contaminating wire particles which in contact with dielectric coating of earthed enclosure inside GIBD. The effect of changing the length and the radius of middle particle for multi-contaminating particles on the electric field values are studied. Breakdown Voltage calculations for gas mixtures with single and multi-contaminating wire particles are studied. The effects of gas pressure on the breakdown voltage for various fractional concentrations of SF6-gas mixtures with and without particle contamination and also with and without coating of earthed enclosure are studied. The optimum gas mixture which gives higher dielectric strength with lower cost is also determined. The effect of coating thickness of earthed enclosure on the breakdown voltage for various fractional concentrations of SF6-gas mixtures is also studied. Finally, the effect of length and hemi-spherical radius of multi-contaminating particles on the breakdown voltage with various SF6-gas mixtures and varying gas pressure one time and another time with fixed pressure are studied.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i4.5693

Face is one of the most important biometric of human and contains lots of useful information such as gender, age, race and identity. Gender classification is very easy for human but it considers a challenge for computers. Gender classification through face images has recently been considered so much. Gender recognition can be useful in interaction between human and computer like identifying individual’s identity. It is also applicable in TV networks in order to study the rate of viewers. Various algorithms have been designed for this issue and each of them has unraveled that to some extent. The last obtained rate to identify gender was through article written by Dr. Mozaffari who obtained mean rate of 83% for identification. It is the proposed method of the present study which has brought identification rate to 92.5. in this method we draw out face features based on Gabor filters and local binary patterns. These features are resistant against noise and they select proper features against bottleneck of images. In order to obtain a proper classification, we use self-organized map (SOM) (type of artificial neural network). This neural network finds the proper weights for each gender with very little error. Obtained results are compared with existing datasets and therefore, superiority of the proposed method would be evident.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i4.5926

Distributed data processing is a major field in nowadays applications. Many applications collect and process data from distributed nodes to gain overall results. Large amount of data transfer and network delay made data processing in a centralized manner a hard operation representing an important problem. A very common way to solve this problem is ranking queries. Ranking or top-k queries concentrate only on the highest ranked tuples according to user's interest. Another issue in most nowadays applications is data uncertainty. Many techniques were introduced for modeling, managing, and processing uncertain databases. Although these techniques were efficient, they didn't deal with distributed data uncertainty. This paper deals with both data uncertainty and distribution based on ranking queries. A novel framework is proposed for ranking distributed uncertain data. The framework has a suite of novel algorithms for ranking data and monitoring updates. These algorithms help in reducing the communication rounds used and amount of data transmitted while achieving efficient and effective ranking. Experimental results show that the proposed framework has a great impact in reducing communication cost compared to other techniques.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i4.5920

The stability of a system is its ability to return to normal or stable operation after having been subjected to some forms of disturbances. A disturbance in a power system is a sudden change or sequence of changes in one or more of the physical quantities. In this paper, the transient reactance of a synchronous machine, mechanical input power, kinetic energy of a rotating body, moment of inertia, angular acceleration, angular displacement and the rotor displacement angles were used as input parameters for the development of the Transient Stability model..The model is validated with a single machine system, a 2-machine system and a multi-machine system. The results of the work showed that the single machine system supplying an infinite bus-bar fluctuates while the 2-machine system remains unstable throughout the period. Generator 3 of the multi-machine system experienced the most violent swing, pulled out of synchronism during the first swing thus making the system to be unstable. The Transient Stability Model developed can be used for effective planning and operation of power systems.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i4.5850

This paper describes a platform that is used to build embedded sensor systems for low energy implantable applications. One of the key characteristics of the platform is the ability to reason about the environment and dynamically modify the operational parameters of the system. Additionally the platform provides to ability to compose application specific sensor systems using a novel computational element that directly supports a synchronous-dataflow (SDF) programming paradigm. Cognition in the context of a sensor platform is defined as the “process of knowing, including aspects of awareness, perception, reasoning, and judgment”.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i4.5680

Roads and their lighting systems are important facilities of local municipals. Most conventional street lighting systems are switched on/off at regular intervals of time. The consequence is that a large portion of electrical energy consumed by the street lighting is wasted meaninglessly if the road traffic is low. With the increasing interest in the global energy consumption and green environment requirement, automated street lighting system raises much interest around the world. In this paper, a cost effective and energy efficient automated street light control based on microcontroller and ZigBee wireless network is proposed. The street lamps are automatically controlled with the ambient light conditions, the road pedestrian and vehicle traffic conditions, and the neighbor traffic conditions.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i5.6446
