Abstract

In the proposed study, MOSFET device used in buck-boost converter for PV systems is studied. The parameter of MOSFET Rds(on) is varied and its effect on output voltage is studied. The parasitic elements in inductor and capacitor such as resistance on buck-boost converter performance are studied.  From the proposed study it has been found that the effect of parasitic resistance in capacitor is less as compared to parasitic resistance effect of inductor. Also the proposed study gives better insight into parasitic effect of Printed Circuit Board and losses incurred due to the same. In PV systems buck-boost converter is used to convert solar energy to electrical energy which is then stored in battery to drive the loads. These parasitic elements will have considerable effect on the performance of buck-boost converter such as efficiency and output voltage as validated by experimental results.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6855

Abstract

In this paper, an adaptive PID-type iterative learning control scheme is proposed for tracking problem in repetitive systems with unknown parameters. In this scheme, we use a combination of an optimal PID-type iterative learning controller and progection like adgusting algorithm that is based on tracking error which decreases by iterations increment. Layapunov method is used for convergence analysis of the presented scheme, and convergence condition is obtained in term of algorithm step size range. the effectiveness of proposed technique is illustrated by simulation results.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6432

Abstract

Honeypots  systems  are   an   important  piece  of   the   network  security infrastructure and can be deployed to accomplish different purposes such as: network sensing, capturing and learning about 0-day exploits, capturing and analyzing of black hat techniques, deterring black hats and data gathering for doing  statistical  analysis  over  the  Internet  traffic,  among  others. Nevertheless, all honeypots need to look like real systems, due to if a honeypot is unmasked, it loses its value. This paper presents a new procedure to detect low interaction honeypots, through HTTP request, regardless honeypot architecture. It is important to mention that Low Interaction Honeypots network services need to be improved in order to get trustworthy information. Otherwise, it should consider data obtained by low interaction honeypots like inaccurate and unreliable information.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6885

Abstract

The present paper highlights an innovative broadband millimeter-wave single balanced diode mixer which is designed using a newly designed 90 substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) coupler and two cavity (SIW) filters. The mixer covers RF/LO operating frequency range which fluctuates between 10 to 12 GHz and IF port covers 2GHz. The proposed mixer exhibits a fairly low conversion loss of less than 10 dB and high port to-port isolations over the frequency band of interest as the simulated results make clear. Furthermore, the two cavities SIW filter is embedded to achieve a better image frequency suppression of about 28dB.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6684

Abstract

In this work, a No-Reference objective image quality assessment based on NRDPF-IQA metric and classification based metric are tested using LIVE database, which consisting of Gaussian white noise, Gaussian blur, Rayleigh fast fading channel, JPEG compressed images, JPEG2000 images. We plot the Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficient [SROCC] between each of these features and human DMOS from the LIVE-IQA database using our proposed method to ascertain how well the features correlate with human judgement quality. The analysis of the testing and training is done by SVM model. The proposed method shows better results compared with the earlier methods. Abstract

A cross slot coupled cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) operating in the X-band (8GHz -12GHz) frequency range is studied. The proposed CP designs are achieved by implementing a suitable cross slot on the ground plane (in the case of aperture coupled feed method), which results in excitation of two near degenerate orthogonal modes of near equal amplitudes and 90°phase difference. Attempts are made to change the geometry of slots ends to introduce a novel structure in order to achieve a better impedance bandwidth with an improved 3dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth. It is found that the hourglass of cross slot has a great effect on the strength of coupling between the feed line and the dielectric resonator antenna. In simulation an impedance bandwidth of 46.15% and axial ratio bandwidth of 22% has been achieved with the above geometry. An improvement of 12% in impedance bandwidth and 11.2% in Axial ratio bandwidth is obtained over conventional rectangular cross slot.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6484

Abstract

Reduction of operating costs in power system in order to return the investment costs and more profitability has vital importance in power industry. Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) is one of the most important issues in reducing operating costs. ELD is formulated as a nonlinear optimization problem with continuous variables within the power plants. The main purpose of this problem is optimal planning of power generation in power plants with minimum cost by total units, regarded to equality and inequality constraints including load demand and the range of units' power productivity. In this article, Economic Load Dispatch problem has been modeled by considering the valve-point loading effects with power plants' constraints such as: the balance of production and consumption in system, the forbidden zones, range of production, increasing and decreasing rates, reliability constraints and network security. To solve the problem, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) Algorithms has been employed. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, the problem has been implemented on a power system with 15 generating units and the results have been evaluated.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6720

Abstract

Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory postulates that in learning, knowledge is created by the learners’ ability to absorb and transform experience. Many studies have previously suggested that at rest, the brain emits signatures that can be associated with cognitive and behavioural patterns. Hence, the study attempts to characterise and classify learning styles from EEG using the spectral centroid frequency features. Initially, learning style of 68 university students has been assessed using Kolb’s Learning Style Inventory. Resting EEG is then recorded from the prefrontal cortex. Next, the EEG is pre-processed and filtered into alpha and theta sub-bands in which the spectral centroid frequencies are computed from the corresponding power spectral densities. The dataset is further enhanced to 160 samples via synthetic EEG. The obtained features are then used as input to the k-nearest neighbour classifier that is incorporated with k-fold cross-validation. Feature classification via k-nearest neighbour has attained five-fold mean training and testing accuracies of 100% and 97.5%, respectively. Hence, results show that the alpha and theta spectral centroid frequencies represent distinct and stable EEG signature to distinguish learning styles from the resting brain.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i6.6833
