Abstract

Internet of things (IoT) has described a futurevision of internetwhere users, computing system, and everyday objects possessing sensing and actuating capabilities are part of distributed applications and required to support standard internet communication with more powerful device or internet hosts. This vision necessitates the security mechanisms for end-to-end communication. A key management protocol is critical to ensuring the secure exchange of data between interconnecting entities, but due to the nature of this communication system where a high resource constrained node may be communicating with node with high energy makes the application of existing key management protocols impossible. In this paper, we propose a new lightweight key management protocol that allows the constrained node in 6loWPAN network to transmit captured data to internet host in secure channel. This protocol is based on cooperation of selected 6loWPAN routers to participate in computation of highly consuming cryptographic primitives. Our protocol is assessed with AVISPA tool, the results show that our scheme ensured security properties.

Abstract

Delay locked loop is a critical building block of high speed synchronous circuits. An improved architecture of amixed signaldelay locked loop (DLL) is presented here. In this DLL, delay cell based on single ended differential pair configuration is used for voltage controlled delay line (VCDL) implementation. This delay cell provides a high locking range with less phase noise and jitter due to differential pair configuration.For increasing the acquisition range and locking speed of the DLL, modified true single phase clock (TSPC) based phase frequency detector is used. The proposed design is implemented at 0.18 um CMOS technology and at power supply of 1.8V . It has power consumption of 1.39 mW at 125 MHz center frequency with locking range from 0.5 MHz to 250 MHz.

Abstract

In this work, a theoretical analysis of a Sagnac loop filter (SLF) with two-stage polarization maintaining fibers (PMFs) and polarization controllers (PCs) is presented. The transmission function of this two-stage SLF is calculated in detail by using Jones matrix. The calculation is performed in order to investigate the filtering characteristics. The theoretical results show that the wavelength interval is depending on the dynamic settings of the length of the PMFs and the polarization angle of the PCs. By changing the polarization angle of the PCs, a multiple of single, dual or triple wavelength in each channel can be achieved. Based on this study, a flat multiwavelength spectrum can be obtained by adjusting the PMFs and the PCs in the two-stage SLF. This finding significantly contributes to the generation of multiwavelength fiber laser (MWFL) that can be used for many optical applications.

Abstract

This paper describes tests results on the CF3I-CO2 gas mixtures as an alternative for SF6 gas as to be used as insulating medium in high voltage applications. Pressurized CF3I-CO2 gas mixtures are subject under standard lightning impulse voltages at both positive and negative polarities. Under rod-plane configuration, the electrode gap length and gas pressure are varied accordingly. Upon completion of the laboratory tests, SEM and EDX analyses are carried out to assess the solid by-products. It was found that higher gas mixtures provide better insulation strength. In terms of weight, 50% of the solid by-product is found to be iodine.

Abstract

The research on loadshedding issues dates back to 1972 and till date many studies were introduced by the research community to address the issues. A closer review of existing techniques shows that still the effectiveness of loadshedding schemes are not yet benchmarked and majority of the existing system just considers the techniques to be quite symptomatic to either frequency or voltage. With an evolution of smart grids, majority of the controlling features of power system and networks are governed by a computational model. However, till date not enough evidences of potential computational model has been seen that claims to have better balance between the load shedding schemes and quality of power system performance. Hence, we review some significant literatures and highlights the research gap with the existing technqiues of load balancing that is meant for assisting the researcher to conclude after the selection process of existing system as a reference for future direction of study.

Abstract

Industrial robots are now commonly used in production systems to improve productivity, quality and safety in manufacturing processes. Recent developments involve using robots cooperatively with production line operatives. Regardless of application, there are significant implications for operator safety in the event of a robot malfunction or failure, and the consequent downtime has a significant impact on productivity in manufacturing. Machine healthy monitoring is a type of maintenance inspection technique by which an operational asset is monitored and the data obtained is analysed to detect signs of degradation and thus reducing the maintenance costs. Developments in electronics and computing have opened new horizons in the area of condition monitoring. The aim of using wireless electronic systems is to allow data analysis to be carried out locally at field level and transmitting the results wirelessly to the base station, which as a result will help to overcome the need for wiring and provides an easy and cost-effective sensing technique to detect faults in machines. So, the main focuses of this research is to develop an online and wireless fault detection system for an industrial robot based on statistical control chart approach. An experimental investigation was accomplished using the PUMA 560 robot and vibration signal capturing was adopted, as it responds immediately to manifest itself if any change is appeared in the monitored machine, to extract features related to the robot health conditions. The results indicate the successful detection of faults at the early stages using the key extracted parameters.

Abstract

The article considers the inland waterways (IW) within the international transport corridors as multiphase systems of mass service (SMS) and shows the distinction in calculation of the important indicator of system efficiency - the average total waiting time of vessel service in the serving subsystems, the application of genetic algorithms to increase the efficiency of reloading processes.

Abstract

Path planning has been an important aspect in the development of autonomous cars in which path planning is used to find a collision-free path for the car to traverse from a starting point Sp to a target point Tp. The main criteria for a good path planning algorithm include the capability of producing the shortest path with a low computation time. Low computation time makes the autonomous car able to re-plan a new collision-free path to avoid accident. However, the main problem with most path planning methods is their computation time increases as the number of obstacles in the environment increases. In this paper, an algorithm based on visibility graph (VG) is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, which is called Equilateral Space Oriented Visibility Graph (ESOVG), the number of obstacles considered for path planning is reduced by introducing a space in which the obstacles lie. This means the obstacles located outside the space are ignored for path planning. From simulation, the proposed algorithm has an improvement rate of up to 90% when compared to VG. This makes the algorithm is suitable to be applied in real-time and will greatly accelerate the development of autonomous cars in the near future.

Abstract

Energy is the driving force in all the sectors as it acts like an index of standard of living or prosperity of the people of the country. However heavy dependence on fossil fuels leads to global warming, hence there is a need for the use of clean, sustainable, and eco friendly form of energy. Among the various types of non-conventional energy solar energy is the fundamental as it is abundant, pollution free and universally available.Even though the main input to the PV system is the solar radiation still there are other factors which affects the efficiency of the pv module. In this paper real time experiment has been conducted to analyze the effect of various factors like irradiance, temperature, and angle of tilt, soiling, shading on the power output of the pv module. Temperature is a negative factor which reduces the efficiency of the module and can be reduced by various cooling arrangements. Presence of dust particles and shading obstructs the incident solar radiations entering the panel and the effect is seen in the iv and pv curve .For better performance solar tracking at maximum power point is suggested to improve the power output of the pv module.

Abstract

Large Vocabulary Continuous Speech Recognition (LVCSR), which is characterized by a high variability of the speech, is the most challenging task in automatic speech recognition (ASR). Believing that the evaluation of ASR systems on relevant and common speech corpora is one of the key factors that help accelerating research, we present, in this paper, a benchmark comparison of the performances of the current state-of-the-art LVCSR systems over different speech recognition tasks. Furthermore, we put objectively into evidence the best performing technologies and the best accuracy achieved so far in each task. The benchmarks have shown that the Deep Neural Networks and Convolutional Neural Networks have proven their efficiency on several LVCSR tasks by outperforming the traditional Hidden Markov Models and Guaussian Mixture Models. They have also shown that despite the satisfying performances in some LVCSR tasks, the problem of large-vocabulary speech recognition is far from being solved in some others, where more research efforts are still needed.
