Abstract

The balance of the power supply and demand (frequency control) is one of the most ancient approaches for the power systems, which is considered as a highly complex system.The power systems frequency response is a perfect indicator of the resilience to the multi-disturbances. In this work, the fuzzy logichas been scaledusing PSO segmentation (SePSO) and suggested to get high performance of frequency stability. PSO has participated into multi-segments for calculating the scald-fuzzy membership with basic rules. Two identical interconnectedpower areas wereselected to exam the new scaled fuzzy method. The time response of the results has undertaken the effectiveness of the controller reactionusing the MATLAB Simulink. The work feed back proved that the proposed SePSO optimization for the controlhas significantly faster with low undershot concerningthe classical controllers in differenttime schedules and disturbance values.

Abstract

To accommodate the regularity of wind energy; a storage device is required for the wind turbine. This paper proposesa constant power control for wind farm based Doubly Fed Induction Generator, the suggested storage device is supercapacitor which is connected to every wind turbine of the wind farm, it provides output power stability and compensates the deviations between the available wind energy input and the desired active power output. A Distribution – Static Synchronous Compensator (D-STATCOM) is connected at the point of connection of the wind farm, it controls the active and reactive power according to the demand from orpower generation to the electrical grid. The coordinated approach between the supercapacitors and the D-STATCOM mitigates the voltage magnitude fluctuations of the wind farm and provides support to the active power. Simulation studies are carried out inMATLAB/Simulink.

Abstract

The Player Tracking System (PTS) is already well renowned in the Casino industry. It can track the activity of users and monitor the performance and operation of gaming machines. The recognized downside of such a system is that users usually do not want to be tracked, mostly, because they feel that the functioning of the gaming machine might be tampered with to minimize their winning potential. PTS has to offer a variety of services to stimulate a user to use the membership card. In this paper, we propose an Advanced PTS that simplifies some tedious tasks, automates conversion of bonus points to playing credits, displays jackpot counters, introduces the gaming machine reservation system, provides cashless transfers, delivers interactive personalized awards and promotions with prize winning games, enables ordering of refreshments from the gaming machine, and provides some additional innovative features. Its use reduces the workload of casino employees and enables the casino management team to access configuration of the system and analytical data with the use of a web browser from all desired locations and devices. The biggest installation of the presented APTS manages more than 400 gaming machines, and is well-received by the users.

Abstract

This paper presents a new robust bounded control law to stabilize uncertain nonlinear system with time varying disturbance. The design idea comes from the advantages of backstepping with Lyapunov redesign, which avoid the needs of fast switching of discontinuous control law offered by its counterpart - a variable structure control. We reduce the conservatism in the design process where the control law can be flexibly chosen from Lyapunov function, hence avoiding the use of convex optimization via linear matrix inequality (LMI) in which the feasibility is rather hard to be obtained. For this work, we design two type control algorithms namely normal control and bounded control. As such, our contribution is the introduction of a new bounded control law that can avoid excessive control energy, high magnitude chattering in control signal and small oscillation in stabilized states. Computation of total energy for both control laws confirmed that the bounded control law can stabilize with less enegry consumption. We also use Euler's approximation to compute average power for both control laws. The robustness of the proposed controller is achieved via saturation-like function in Lyapunov redesign, and hence guaranting asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system.

Abstract

This article describes the performance results of the first renewable microgrid of Chocó, Colombia, monitored over two years (2016-2017) adding an economic approach. A virtual platform is used to analyze, in real time, the microgrid power production, while a meteorological station measures the solar irradiance and the ambient temperature. The results indicated that the generation of AC PV energy was 21,817 kWh/year on 2016 and 23,301 kWh/year on 2017. The photovoltaic system’s average efficiency was 10.3 % on 2016 and 11.09 % on 2017. An economical analysis of the renewable microgrid is also presented using RETScreenTM software. The results show a net present value of $237,028 USD for an evaluation period of 25 years with annual energy savings of $4,622 USD. A calculation on greenhouse gas emissions show that 22.9 tCO2 per year are avoided  when using the solar energy tech.

Abstract

Network on chip (NoC) is a scalable interconnection architecture for every increasing communication demand between many processing cores in system on chip design. Reliability aspects are becoming an important issue in fault tolerant architecture. Hence there is a demand for fault tolerant Agent architecture with suitable routing algorithm which plays a vital role in order to enhance the NoC performance. The proposed fault tolerant Agent based NoC method is used to enhance the reliability and performance of the Multiprocessor System on Chip (MPSoC) design against faulty links and nodes. These agents are placed in hierarchical manner to collect, process, classify and distribute different fault information related to the faulty links and nodes of the network. This fault information is used for further packet routing in the network with the help of shortest path routing algorithm. In addition to this the agent will provide the security for the node by setting firewall, which then decides whether the packet has to be processed or not. This intern provides high performance, low latency NoC by avoiding deadlock and live lock with low area overhead.

Abstract

The Inter-Carrier-Interference (ICI) is considered a bottleneck in the utilization of Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems, due to the sensitivity of the OFDM towards frequency offsets which lead to loss of orthogonality, interference and performance degradation. In this paper Residue Numbers as a coding scheme is impeded in MIMO-OFDM systems, where the ICI levels is measured and evaluated with respect to conventional ICI mitigation techniques implemented in MIMO-OFDM. The Carrier-to-Interference Ratio (CIR), the system Bit-Error-Rate (BER) and the Complementary Cumulative Distribution Function (CCDF) for MIMO-OFDM system with Residue Number System (RNS) coding are analyzed and evaluated. The results had demonstrated a performance of transmission model with and without RNS.

Abstract

In Biotelemetry, Biomedical signal such as ECG is extremely important in the diagnosis of patients in remote location and is recorded commonly with noise. Considered attention is required for analysis of ECG signal to find the patho-physiology and status of patient. In this paper, LMS and RLS algorithm are implemented on adaptive FIR filter for reducing power line interference (50Hz) and (AWGN) noise on ECG signals .The ECG signals are randomly chosen from MIT_BIH data base and de-noising using algorithms. The peaks and heart rate of the ECG signal are estimated. The measurements are taken in terms of Signal Power, Noise Power and   Mean Square Error.

Abstract

Power electronic devices in spacecraft and military applications requires high radiation tolerant. The semiconductor devices face the issue of device degradation due to their sensitivity to radiation. Power MOSFET is one of the primary components of these power electronic devices because of its capabilities of fast switching speed and low power consumption. These abilities are challenged by ionizing radiation which damages the devices by inducing charge built-up in the sensitive oxide layer of power MOSFET. Radiations degrade the oxides in a power MOSFET through Total Ionization Dose effect mechanism that creates defects by generation of excessive electron–hole pairs causing electrical characteristics shifts. This study investigates the impact of gamma ray irradiation on dynamic characteristics of silicon and silicon carbide power MOSFET. The switching speed is limit at the higher doses due to the increase capacitance in power MOSFETs. Thus, the power circuit may operate improper due to the switching speed has changed by increasing or decreasing capacitances in power MOSFETs. These defects are obtained due to the penetration of Cobalt60 gamma ray dose level from 50krad to 600krad. The irradiated devices were evaluated through its shifts in the capacitance-voltage characteristics, results were analyzed and plotted for the both silicon and silicon carbide power MOSFET.

Abstract

This work explains the comparison of various dc-dc converters for photovoltaic systems. In recent day insufficient energy and continues increasing in fuel cost, exploration on renewable energy system becomes more essential. For high and medium power applications, high input source from renewable systems like photovoltaic and wind energy system turn into difficult one, which leads to increase of cost for installation process. So the generated voltage from PV system is boosted with help various boost converter depends on the applications. Here the various converters are like boost converter, buck converter, buck-boost converter, cuk converter, sepic converter and zeta converter are analysed for photovoltaic system, which are verified using matlab / simulink.
