Abstract

In this paper, a compact Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna (RMPA) fed by microstrip line has been designed to operate for Ku/K bands applications. The proposed antenna is slotted and optimized to reach a large bandwidth and cover various applications such as 5G communication (in frequency range 24.25-27.5 GHz), fixed and mobile satellite, radionavigation, space research, radiolocation etc. In this design, the substrate used is FR4 with a relative permittivity of 4.4 and a thickness of 1.6 mm. The slotted RMPA has been simulated using Advanced Design System (ADS) software and the obtained results are presented and discussed. The proposed antenna achieves a return loss less than -10 dB and VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio) < 2 in frequency range from 16.58 to 25.29 GHz. The percentage bandwidth provided by the proposed microstrip antenna is 41.61%.

Abstract

In this paper we proposed KAJ Spiral method for supporting PlayFair cipher algorithm to use languages other than English and utilize block with more than two characters at once. Original method does not support block of characters and other languages. The method uses a spiral shape with two axes (X, Y) and the letters are spread on the axis within circles depending on the language. We use Friedman method analysis (index of coincidence) as a tool to test and prove the efficiency of KAJ Spiral method, and we found that it is at least equally secure to the original PlayFair cipher. The aims of this is making cryptography just like mathematics a universal language such that people with different languages can use this algorithm for secure communication, and at the same time make the algorithm stronger and easy to use, with the ability to fit any language.

Abstract

Selection and allocation of space for intercropping in rubber plantations to maximize yield and minimum costs for individual farmers involves Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) and several conditions.  The problem is that the information is scattered in many related agencies, there are separate stores and some data is redundant. In addition, the format of the data varies depending on the purpose of the data. The knowledge of selecting plants to grow in the rubber plantation is the tacit knowledge acquired from the experience of successful farmers in rubber plantations and from agricultural experts. Therefore, this research involves an Integrated Ontology-based knowledge and Multi-Objective Optimization model for intercropping Decision Support Systems (DSS). This article presents the knowledge and integrated data management model for developing the Intercropping in Rubber Plantations Ontology by using the Triangulation in the method to verify the accuracy of the data and results.  Moreover, propose ways to create recommendation rules that are easy to rule update and maintenance.  Using an ontology for DSS helps to recommended plants according to the appropriate environment of the farmer area by rule-based inference to represent logical reasoning.  It could also be applied to another domain that requires Intelligent DSS for MCDM.

Abstract

The cumulative number of historical and recent power system outages substantiates the fact that further studies are necessary for an improved solution to the issue of voltage instability on the grid and the subsequent system collapse. Voltage collapse is a serious reliability issue which inhibits the objective of running a reliable and secure power system network. In this study, a new line stability index (NLSI_1) for predicting voltage collapse is presented.  The new index considers a switching logic which is derived from the difference of voltage angle between the two load buses. The index is deployed for performance analysis using the 28-bus, 330-kV Nigeria National Grid (NNG).  The simulation implemented in MATLAB shows that the index gives the same results as Line stability index (Lmn) and Fast Voltage Stability Index (FVSI) indices. The base case and the contingency scenarios were considered during the simulation. The base case analysis using the NNG values of all the three indices FVSI, Lmn, and NLSI_1 for simulation generates a value less than one for the entire lines which implies that the NNG is stable in this mode. The values of the three indices are almost the same, which confirms the accuracy of the novel index developed. The analysis for the contingency case reveals that the load bus 16 (Gombe) which has the lowest, maximum permissible reactive load of 139.5MVAR is the weakest; also power line 16-19 is identified as the critical line. The result of the simulation confirms that the accuracy was improved by using NLSI_1.

Abstract

In recent years, many researchers have studied the HAR (Human Activity Recognition) system. HAR using smart home sensor is based on computing in smart environment, and intelligent surveillance system conducts intensive research on peripheral support life. The previous system studied in some of the activities is a fixed motion and the methodology is less accurate. In this paper, vision-based studies using thermal imaging cameras improve the accuracy of motion recognition in intelligent surveillance systems. We use one of the deep learning architectures widely used in image recognition systems called Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). Therefore, we use CNN and thermal cameras to provide accuracy and many features through the proposed method.

Abstract

Lock on missiles are a major threat to vital installations. Soft kill solutions against lock on incoming missiles such as deployment of active decoys can be very effective to war of threat. The weaknesses in onboard missile tracking radars can be gainfully used to increase the miss distance between target and the missile. The effect of geometrical positioning errors of two horn monopulse missile mounted radars has been analyzed in this paper. As so gain differences between the two horns can cause variations in the miss distance. This aspect has also been studied. The variation of miss distance with jammer power to signal ratio (J/S) is also presented. It can be seen that the miss distance is always midway between the target and the decoy. Random angular positioning errors of the missile radar have been analyzed and it is found that the miss distance increases with increase of angular errors.

Abstract

In virtualized servers, with live migration technique pages are copied from one physical machine to another while the virtual machine (VM) is running. The dynamic migration of virtual machines encumbers the data center which in turn reduces the performance of applications running on that particular physical machine. A considerable number of studies have been carried out in the area of performance evaluation during live VM migration.  However, all the aspects related to the migration process have not been examined for the performance assessment. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to evaluate the performance during migration process in different types of coupled machine environment. It is presented here that the state of art VM migration technology requires further improvement in realizing effective migration by monitoring comprehensive performance value. We introduced the parameter, θ, to compare performance value which can be used for controlling and halting unsuccessful migration and save significant amount of time in migration operation.  Our model is capable of analyzing real time scenario of cloud performance assessment targeting VM migration strategies. It also offers the possibility of further expanding to universal models for analyzing the performance variations that occurs as a result of VM migration.

Abstract

In this paper power energy had been estimated based on actual wind speed records in a coastal city in Palestine Ashdod. The main aims of this study to determine the feasibility of wind turbine and to estimate payback period. Therefore, to encourage investment in renewable energy in Palestine. The daily average wind speed data had been analyzed and fitted to the Weibull probability distribution function. The parameters of Weibull had been calculated by author using Graphical method the applied example wind turbine is 5kw wind turbine generator this is suitable turbine for small scale based on wind speed records on the coastal plain of Palestine. This study calculated the energy that can produce from wind turbine to estimate the revenue of any possible project in wind energy conversion system based on unit area. Energy has been calculated wind energy using two different method based on Weibull data and measured data. The total amount of energy for 2010 is 10749.8 kw.hr/m2 based on measured wind speed. Payback period for the project in wind energy turbines is around 3 years which make the generation electricity possible for small scale but not commercial. This study will lead to assess the wind energy production in Palestine to encourage investment in renewable energy sectors.

Abstract

Simple constructional features with no windings on rotor circuit and robustness make switched reluctance motor (SRM) a most used motors in industrial applications. Peak motor voltage rating depends on the rated voltage of the power switches. In conventional asymmetrical converter driving SRM, voltage rating of the motor depends on rating of power electronic switches in converter. Demand to rise the motor rating insists to put pressure on converter switching components which results in increased switching losses. A cascaded converter topology for SRM reduces the rating of switching components as compared to conventional converters for SRM. This paper presents a cascaded converter fed SRM drive with reduced switching losses. The paper presents a simplified hysteresis current control (HCC) for cascaded converter fed SRM. Simplified HCC control method reduces switching losses as HCC is applied to only one bridge of cascaded converter. Though the performance of the SRM remains same with cascaded converter fed SRM with HCC applied to only one bridge or to two bridges and with conventional asymmetrical converter, the switching losses are reduced to a great extent when HCC applied to one bridge of cascaded converter fed SRM. Performance of SRM is illustrated with conventional asymmetrical converter fed SRM and is compared to cascaded converter while HCC applied to only one bridge and applied to two bridges of cascaded converter. Proposed work is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK and results are presented.

Abstract

In frequent itemset mining, the main challenge is to discover relationships between data in a transactional database or relational database. Various algorithms have been introduced to process frequent itemset. Eclat based algorithms are one of the prominent algorithm used for frequent itemset mining. Various researches have been conducted based on Eclat based algorithm such as Tidset, dEclat, Sortdiffset and Postdiffset. The algorithm has been improvised along the time. However, the utilization of physical memory and processing time become the main problem in this process. This paper reviews and presents a comparison of various Eclat based algorithms for frequent itemset mining and propose an enhancement technique of Eclat based algorithm to reduce processing time and memory usage. The experimental result shows some improvement in processing time and memory utilization in frequent itemset mining.
