Abstract

Heart rate (HR) is one of vital biomedical signals for medical diagnosis. Previously, conventional camera is proven to be able to detect small changes in the skin due to the cardiac activity and can be used to measure the HR. However, most of the previous systems operate on near distance mode with a single face patch, thus the feasibility of the remote heart rate for various distances remains vague. This paper tackles this issue by analyzing an optimal framework that capable to works under the mentioned issues. Initially, plausible face landmarks are estimated by employing cascaded of regression mechanism. Next, the region of interest (ROI) was constructed from the landmarks in a face location where non rigid motion is minimal. From the ROI, temporal photoplethysmograph (PPG) signal is calculated based on the average green pixels intensity and environmental illumination is separated using Independent Component Analysis (ICA) filter. Eventually, the PPG signal is further processed using series of temporal filter to exclude frequencies outside the range of interest prior to estimate the HR. As a conclusion, the HR can be detected up to 5 meters range with 94% accuracy using lower part of face region.

Abstract

Facial expression is a major area for non-verbal language in day to day life communication. As the statistical analysis shows only 7 percent of the message in communication was covered in verbal communication while 55 percent transmitted by facial expression. Emotional expression has been a research subject of physiology since Darwin’s work on emotional expression in the 19th century. According to Psychological theory the classification of human emotion is classified majorly into six emotions: happiness, fear, anger, surprise, disgust, and sadness. Facial expressions which involve the emotions and the nature of speech play a foremost role in expressing these emotions. Thereafter, researchers developed a system based on Anatomic of face named Facial Action Coding System (FACS) in 1970. Ever since the development of FACS there is a rapid progress of research in the domain of emotion recognition. This work is intended to give a thorough comparative analysis of the various techniques and methods that were applied to recognize and identify human emotions. This analysis results will help to identify the proper and suitable techniques, algorithms and the methodologies for future research directions. In this paper extensive analysis on the various recognition techniques used to identify the complexity in recognizing the facial expression is presented. This work will also help researchers and scholars to ease out the problem in choosing the techniques used in the identification of the facial expression domain.

Abstract

In electronic commerce, in order to help users to find their favourite products, we essentially need a system to classify the products based on the user's interests and needs to recommend them to the users. For the same reason the recommendation systems are designed to help finding information in large websites. They are basically developed to offer products to the customers in an automated fashion to help them to do conveniently their shopping. The developing of such systems is important since there are often a large number of factors involved in purchasing a product that would make it difficult for the customer to make the best decision. Finding relationship among users and relationships among products are important issue in these systems. One of relations is similarity. Measure similarity among users and products is used in the pure methods for calculating similarity degree. In this paper, semantic similarity is used to find a set of k nearest neighbours to the target user, or target item. Thus, because of incorporating semantic similarity in the proposed recommendation system, from the experimental results, the high accuracy was obtained on private building company dataset in comparison with state-of-the-art recommender systems.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v3i6.3931

Abstract

Wavelet transforms and wavelet packets are widely imposed in the analysis and resolution of problems related to science and technical engineering. Decomposition wavelet packet allows several frequency bands according to various levels of resolutions. We apply this transform (PWT) coupled with the SPIHT coder to reduce the limitations of conventional wavelet filter bank. The results obtained using the applied algorithm, are very satisfactory and encouraging compared to many of the best coders cited in the literature and show a visual and numerical superiority over conventional methods. These the promising results are confirmed by visual evaluation parameters (PSNR, MSSIM and VIF).

Abstract

Energy consumption in MobileAdhoc Network (MANET) is a topic of research from more than a decade. Althoughthere are multiple archival of literatures, that have proposed variousenergy-efficient algorithms for reducing the energy consumption to improveenergy efficiency. Establishing correct and reliable route is important designissue in MANET, but a more challenging goal is to provide energy efficientroute. But, it was observed that majority of such energy efficient routingprotocols just give symptomatic solution which addresses and mitigated theenergy issues overlooking various associated issues like quality of services.Moreover, in majority of research previous studies it is found that AODV andDSDV are highly in adoption rate among the researcher for solving energy issuesusing routing protocols. This manuscript after reviewing some of thesignificant literatures in past explored issues in existing AODV and DSDVand  proposes a novel energy efficientrouting protocols by incorporating a new actor called availability zone. Theproposed model shows better energy efficiency and QoS compared to AODV andDSDV.

Abstract

In the designing and operation of interconnected power systems, automatic-generation-control (AGC) represent an important topic. AGC is responsible for maintaining the balance between generation side and load side via controlling the frequency and active power interchange. A new metaheuristic strategy is proposed in this work for optimal controller tuning in AGC system. Ԝһale Орtimіzatіоn Αlgorithm(WOA) is proposed for optimal tuning of reset integral controller. T he proposed strategy is used for optimal AGC in two-areas interconnected-power system. The proposed tuning strategy is compared with other new metaheuristic optimization strategy termed as Harmony Search (HS). The two-area interconnected power system are simulated based MATLAB-toolbox. From results obtained, it is obvious that, the system transient and steady-state behavior are enhanced greatly under the same conditions. This is due to the use of the proposed optimization technique.  The proposed technique has an advanced and superior feature like, local optimum avoiding, fast convergence ability, and lower search agents and iteration are required. All mentioned features, make this strategy optimal for various optimization problems.

Abstract

In the present work, a precise optimization method is proposed for tuning the parameters of the COST231 model to improve its accuracy in the path loss propagation prediction. The Particle Swarm Optimization is used to tune the model parameters. The predictions of the tuned model are compared with the most popular models. The performance criteria selected for the comparison of various empirical path loss models is the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). The RMSE between the actual and predicted data are calculated for various path loss models. It turned out that the tuned COST 231 model outperforms the other studied models.

Abstract

In the recent past, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have seen resurgence and have performed extremely well on vision tasks.  Visually the model resembles a series of layers each of which is processed by a function to form a next layer. It is argued that CNN first models the low level features such as edges and joints and then expresses higher level features as a composition of these low level features. The aim of this paper is to detect multi-view faces using deep convolutional neural network (DCNN). Implementation, detection and retrieval of faces will be obtained with the help of direct visual matching technology. Further, the probabilistic measure of the similarity of the face images will be done using Bayesian analysis. Experiment detects faces with ±90 degree out of plane rotations. Fine tuned AlexNet is used to detect pose invariant faces. For this work, we extracted examples of training from AFLW (Annotated Facial Landmarks in the Wild) dataset that involve 21K images with 24K annotations of the face.

Abstract

An impedance source buck-boost converter (BBC) prototype for renewable energy (RE) application in the transportation industry is proposed. Its functions include stabilizing the variable output voltage of the RE sources such as fuel cells and photovoltaic cells. The converter utilized a topology of DC-DC quasi-impedance source converters (q-ZSCs) to achieve the gain curve of the BBC. With BBC gain curve, the converter earned advantages over the two other classes of non-isolated DC-DC q-ZSCs. These advantages include ecient buck-boost capability at the ecient duty ratio range of 0:35-0:65 and continuous and non-zero gain at the ecient duty ratio range. The converter's q-ZSC topology implies using two capacitors and two inductors. These two capacitors and inductors formed two separate LC filters that provides second order filtering compared to the first order filtering in BBC. Its other advantages over the traditional BBC include elim-ination of dead and overlap-time, simple contol and permitting higher switching frequency operation. The converter is capable of utilizing high switching frequency and asymmetric components to achieve BBC gain by using smaller components to reduce cost, weight and size. Its simulation response and that of a correspond-ing BBC for some given specifications were compared, presented and analyzed. An experimental scaled-down prototype was also developed to confirm its operation. Analysis of the converters responses comfirmed the prototype's second order filtering as against the first order filtering in traditional BBC.

Abstract

Now-a-days, Energy consumption is the major key factor in Memories. By switching the circuit in off mode and with an lower voltages, leads to decrease in an power dissipation of the circuit. Compared to DRAM SRAM’S are mostly used because of their data retaining capability. The major advantage of using SRAM’s rather than DRAM’S is that, they are providing fast power-on/off speeds. Hence SRAM’s are more preferred over DRAM’s for better instant-on operation. Generally SRAM’s are classified in to two types namely volatile and non-volatile SRAM’s. A non-volatile SRAM enables chip to achieve performance factors and also provides an restore operation which will be enabled by an restore signal to restore the data and also power-up operation is performed. This paper describes about novel NVSRAM circuit which produces better “instant-on operation” compared to previous techniques used in SRAM’s. In addition to normal 6T SRAM core, we are using RRAM circuitry (Resistive RAM) to provide better instant-on operation. By comparing the performance factors with 8T2R and 9T2R, 8T1R design performs the best in the Nano meter scale. Thus this paper provides better performances in power, energy, propagation delay and area factors as compared with other designs.
