Abstract

Predicting stock price fluctuation during critical events remains a big challenge for many researchers because the stock market is extremely vulnerable and sensitive during such time. Most existing works rely on various numerical data of related factors which can impact the stock price direction. However, very few research papers analyzed the effect of information appearing in financial news articles. In this paper, a novel probabilistic lexicon based stock market prediction (PLSP) algorithm is proposed to predict the direction of stock price movement. Our approach used the proposed thai financial probabilistic lexicon (ThaiFinLex) derived from Thai financial news and stock market historical prices. The PLSP development consists of three steps. Firstly, we constructed ThaiFinLex by extracting event terms from news articles and calculating their associated probability of increasing/decreasing values of stock prices. Then, event terms with bad prediction performance were filtered out. Finally, the stock price directions were predicted using the PLSP and the remaining effective event terms. Our results indicated that the proposed model can be used for predicting stock price movement. The performance is as high as 83.33% when PLSP is used to predict stocks from the financial sector.

Abstract

The world is entering into the era of Big Data where computer networks are an essential part. However, the current network architecture is not very convenient to configure such leap. Software defined network (SDN) is a new network architecture which argues the separation of control and data planes of the network devices by centralizing the former in high level, centralised devices and efficient supervisors, called controllers. This paper proposes a mathematical model that helps optimizing the locations of the controllers within the network while minimizing the overall cost under realistic constrains. Our method includes finding the minimum cost of placing the controllers; these costs are the network latency, controller processing power and link bandwidth. Different types of network topologies have been adopted to consider the data profile of the controllers, links of controllers and locations of switches. The results showed that as the size of input data increased, the time to find the optimal solution also increased in a non-polynomial time. In addition, the cost of solution is increased linearly with the input size. Furthermore, when increasing allocating possible locations of the controllers, for the same number of switches, the cost was found to be less.

Abstract

Error is one element of the autoregressive (AR) model, which is supposed to be white noise. Correspondingly assumption that white noise error is a normal distribution in electromyography (EMG) estimation is one of the common causes for error maximization. This paper presents the effect of a suitable choice of filtering function based on the non-invasive analysis properties of motor unit action potential signal, extracted from a non-invasive method-the high spatial resolution (HSR) electromyography (EMG), recorded during low-level isometric muscle contractions. The final prediction error procedure is used to find the number of parameters in the model. The error signal parameter, the simulated deviation from the actual signals, is suitably filtered to obtain optimally appropriate estimates of the parameters of the automatic regression model. It is filtered to acquire optimally appropriate estimates of the parameters of the automatic regression model. Then appropriate estimates of spectral power shapes are obtained with a high degree of efficiency compared with the robust method under investigation. Extensive experiment results for the proposed technique have shown that it provides a robust and reliable calculation of model parameters. Moreover, estimates of power spectral profiles were evaluated efficiently.

Abstract

The wide range of step-up and step-down input-output voltage characteristic of the Cuk converter makes it a good candidate to interface photovoltaic arrays in both classical and distributed maximum power point tracking systems. Because its two inductor structure, Cuk converters have continuous input and output currents, which reduce the additional filtering elements usually required for interfacing dc/dc converter topologies. However, PV systems based on Cuk converters usually do not provide formal proofs of global stability under realistic conditions, which makes impossible to ensure a safe operation of the PV installation. Therefore, this paper proposes a high performance sliding-mode controller for PV systems based on Cuk converters, which regulates the PV voltage in agreement with the commands imposed by a MPPT algorithm, rejecting both load and environmental perturbations, and ensuring global stability for real operation conditions. Finally, the performance of the regulated PV system is tested using both simulations and experiments.

Abstract

The energy transition from fossil-fuel generators to renewable energies represents a paramount challenge. This is mainly due to the uncertainty and unpredictability associated with renewable resources. A greater flexibility is requested for power system operation to fulfill demand requirements considering security and economic restrictions. In particular, the use of gas-fired generators has increased to enhance system flexibility in response to the integration of renewable energy sources. This paper provides a comprehensive formulation for modeling a natural gas supply network to provide gas for thermal generators, considering the use of wind power sources for the operation of the electrical system over a 24-hour period. The results indicate the requirements of gas with different wind power level of integration. The model is evaluated on a network of 20 NG nodes and on a 24-bus IEEE RTS system with various operative settings during a 24-hour period.

Abstract

This paper proposes the fundamental aspects of hybrid nonlinear control which is composed of the super twisting algorithm (STA) based second order sliding mode control applying fuzzy logic method (FSOSMC), with pertinent simulation results for a doubly fed induction machine (DFIM) drive. To minimize chattering effect phenomenon due to Signum function employed in sliding mode algorithm, a new method is proposed. This technique consists in replacing the signum function by fuzzy switching function in the SOSMC to minimize flux and torque ripples. This FSOSMC is associated to the double direct torque control DDTC of the doubly fed induction machine (DFIM) by combining the advantages of fuzzy logic (FL) and the advantages of super-twisting sliding mode. The FSOSMC-DDTC strategy is compared with a PI-DDTC and SOSMC-DDTC. Simulation results demonstrate good efficiency and excellent robustness of the hybrid nonlinear controller.

Abstract

In this paper, the problem of direction of arrival estimation is addressed by employing Bayesian learning technique in sparse domain. This paper deals with the inference of sparse Bayesian learning (SBL) for both single measurement vector (SMV) and multiple measurement vector (MMV) and its applicability to estimate the arriving signal’s direction at the receiving antenna array; particularly considered to be a uniform linear array. We also derive the hyperparameter updating equations by maximizing the posterior of hyperparameters and exhibit the results for nonzero hyperprior scalars. The results presented in this paper, shows that the resolution and speed of the proposed algorithm is comparatively improved with almost zero failure rate and minimum mean square error of signal’s direction estimate.

Abstract

This paper presents on the implementation of spellchecker and corrector system in mobile phone devices, such as a smartphone for the low-resourced Tigrigna language. Designing and developing a spell checking for Tigrigna language is a challenging task. Tigrigna script has more than 32 base letters with seven vowels each. Every first letter has six suffixes. Word formation in Tigrigna depends mainly on root-and-pattern morphology and exhibits prefixes, suffixes, and infixes. A few project have been done on Tigrigna spellchecker on desktop application and the nature of Ethiopic characters. However, in this work we have proposed a systems modeling for Tigrigna language spellchecker, detecting and correction: a corpus of 430,379 Tigrigna words has been used. To indication the validity of the spellchecker and corrector model and algorithm designed, a prototype is developed. The experiment is tested and accuracy of the prototype for Tigrigna spellchecker and correction system for mobile phone devices achieved 92%. This experiment result shows clearly that the system model is efficient in spellchecking and correcting relevant suggested correct words and reduces the misspelled input words for writing Tigrigna words on mobile phone devices.

Abstract

In this paper, we consider the hybrid vehicle routing problem (HVRP) at which the vehicle consumes two types of power: fuel and electricity. The aim of this problem is to minimize the total cost of travelling between customers, provided that each customer is visited only once. The vehicle departs from the depot and returns after completing the whole route. This optimization problem is solved using a modified simulated annealing (SA) heuristic procedure with constant temperature. This approach is implemented on a numerical example and the results are compared with the SA algorithm with decreasing temperature. The obtained results show that using the SA with constant temperature overrides the SA with decreasing temperature. The results indicate that SA with decreasing temperature needs twice the number of iterations needed by the SA with constant temperature to reach a near optimum solution.

Abstract

The change in loads in most applications whose source of nutrition is a renewable energy system. Renewable energy systems can change according to climatic conditions. To control and control these changes, the use of conventional control systems such as PIDs. The PID is one of the most common and used conventional control systems that have been chosen to output the type of power electronic devise (DC-DC converter) in different working conditions. The current study aims to improve the system performance through simulation. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the system with the controller based on setting parameters such as recording system states, embedded elevation time and transient response.
