Abstract

Poor performance of the motor drive system is caused when the direct current-link (DC-link) capacitor voltages of the inverter are not sufficiently generated. This is mainly because of the various load torque changes and input voltage fluctuation. The qZ-source inverter operates with a fully shoot-through technique. This technique causes mismatching between the upper and lower DC-link capacitor voltages. Without capacitor voltage-balancing function, the desired DC-link capacitor voltages could not be provided or maintained when there are load and speed changes. A Sawtooth carrier-based simple boost triple-sixty-degree (TSD) pulse width modulation (PWM) technique is used to drive the qZ-source T-type inverter because this technique can give a more significant boost DC-link voltage than a traditional simple boost PWM technique. Proportional integral (PI) controller is applied for the DC-link voltage controller to achieve the fast response and less steady-state error. The simulation model was constructed for a 4 kW, 400 V, 1,400 rpm induction motor (IM) drive system used in rolling mill using MATLAB/Simulink with and without voltage balancing function. As a result, DC-link voltages of the qZ-source T-type inverter fed the induction motor drive system could be controlled using a capacitor voltage-balancing function and the output power of the motor from the simulation result is approximately equal to 4 kW.

Abstract

The Kainji hydropower station is a seven turbo-alternator station that for many years served as the base load supply for the Nigerian power grid. Over 200,000 pieces of data about the performance of the machines were used to estimate values of the failure and repair rates for each machine and a Markov steady-state model of the plant was constructed to determine the probability output of the turbines. This result showed that Kaplan turbine (KT) 12 is prone to failure compared to any other KT unit in the hydropower plant. Also, the clusters of probability that define the system state due to the different output capacities of the units show that the hydropower plant has not performed to its maximum capacity, further evaluation shows that 60% of the KT machine units are operating which is consistent with the observed robustness of the output. The model not only conforms to observations but reasonably provide a means of studying the effects of different actions that may be taken to improve the performance of hydropower plant.

Abstract

Waste management is a massive issue in India, most of the present systems cannot manage waste on a scalable level, thus creating pressure on the ecosystem. Before the elimination of waste, segregation needs to be done to manage individual types of waste. Hence taken the same approach to solving the problem, which most of the present-day systems fail to do. The goal is to segregate the garbage generated in individual households into solid, liquid, biodegradable, non-biodegradable, combustible, and non-combustible, using many subsystems that involve electro pneumatics, compression, and storage. Image processing techniques will further advocate the process. The desired system will further reduce the waste of an in-built pulverizer. After conducting in-depth research on the present solutions for the urban waste processing chain, the level of complexity increases as the waste goes further along the chain and, in the end, the only option left is incineration was figured out. The solution allows endpoints of the chain to process different types of garbage in a more organized fashion. Municipal solid waste (MSW) is solid waste that results from municipal community, commercial, institutional, and recreational activities. This paper aims to segregate the MSW generated by households into biodegradable, non-biodegradable, combustible, and non-combustible.

Abstract

Due to the increased demand for renewable energy, the interest in the large-scale solar photovoltaic (LSSPV) power plant has recently grown dramatically. However, when a large amount of electricity is produced from the LSSPV power plant to the grid interconnection, the system commonly experiences instability and thus disrupt the grid system in disturbance issues such as bus fault, line-to-line fault, three-phase fault, and tripping. This sudden disturbance occurrence is tended to interrupt the stability of the system from providing balanced electrical production within the electrical grid. A dynamics response from the simulation is used to study the stability and the behavior of the photovoltaic (PV) plant into the grid interconnection by developing 118 bus system. The observation of critical clearing time (CCT) duration shows that the result from the simulation where the duration takes less than t=15 s for the system to get back to its pre-fault condition in three-phase fault and tripping in a dynamic simulation to shows that the system reaches its stability been observed through the simulation result by using from user-specific models to generic models like those advocated by the Western electricity coordinating council (WECC) in power system simulator for engineering (PSSE) software.

Abstract

Dysarthria is a motor speech impairment that reduces the intelligibility of speech. Observations indicate that for different types of dysarthria, the fundamental frequency, intensity, and speech rate of speech are distinct from those of unimpaired speakers. Therefore, the proposed enhancement technique modifies these parameters so that they fall in the range for unimpaired speakers. The fundamental frequency and speech rate of dysarthric speech are modified using the time domain pitch synchronous overlap and add (TD-PSOLA) algorithm. Then its intensity is modified using the fast Fourier transform (FFT) and inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT)-based approach. This technique is applied to impaired speech samples of ten dysarthric speakers. After enhancement, the intelligibility of impaired and enhanced dysarthric speech is evaluated. The change in the intelligibility of impaired and enhanced dysarthric speech is evaluated using the rating scale and word count methods. The improvement in intelligibility is significant for speakers whose original intelligibility was poor. In contrast, the improvement in intelligibility was minimal for speakers whose intelligibility was already high. According to the rating scale method, for diverse speakers, the change in intelligibility ranges from 9% to 53%. Whereas, according to the word count method, this change in intelligibility ranges from 0% to 53%.

Abstract

Elder citizens face sudden fall, which can lead to injuries of both destructive and non-virulent. These sudden falls are later more precarious than diseases like heart attack, blood sugar, blood pressure because these can be untreated for a lengthy time which can lead to death. Elder citizen who experiences a precipitous fall, carry out their communal life narrowed. Therefore, a shrewd and adequate anti-fallen system is required for aiding elderly health care, specifically to those who live individually. So, it can identify and anticipate a precipitous fall through appropriate human activity recognition. In this study, we have suggested an end-edge-cloud based wearable EdgeFall architecture for elderly care. We have performed simulation setups to clarify the query of why we need such a strategy, and its validity. We have achieved maximum 91.87% accuracy with 1.6% false alarm rate (FAR). These empirical results indicate the superiority of using tightly couple multiple information for recognizing human activity. We can accomplish a low FAR with an enhanced accuracy. We can observe that our proposed end-edge-cloud based architecture can reduce the execution time to millisecond range (ms) of 14.16 to 15.74. This work serves as the starting mark for future related research activities.

Abstract

Arabic’s complex morphology, orthography, and dialects make sentiment analysis difficult. This activity makes it harder to extract text attributes from short conversations to evaluate tone. Analyzing and judging a person’s emotional state is complex. Due to these issues, interpreting sentiments accurately and identifying polarity may take much work. Sentiment analysis extracts subjective information from text. This research evaluates machine learning (ML) techniques for understanding Arabic emotions. Sentiment analysis (SA) uses a support vector machine (SVM), Adaboost classifier (AC), maximum entropy (ME), k-nearest neighbors (KNN), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), logistic regression (LR), and naive Bayes (NB). A model for the ensemble-based sentiment was developed. Ensemble classifiers (ECs) with 10-fold cross-validation out-performed other machine learning classifiers in accuracy (A), specificity (S), precision (P), F1 score (FS), and sensitivity (S).

Abstract

The long-term evolution and advancement (LTE-A) of the 5G wireless network depends critically on energy consumption. Many existing solutions focus on limiting power constraints and consequently system coverage. So, improving the antenna array elements of the base station (BS) can solve this issue. In this paper, introduce a coordinated ON-OFF switching method in the massive full dimensional multiple input multiple output (massive-FD-MIMO) system. It enhances the radiation pattern of the antenna array element by adjusting the angular power spectra at the BS. By the way, it allows to select the minimum number of antennas for effective beamforming toward specific user equipment’s (UEs). In this context, part of antenna element should be active mode and remining should be sleep mode at the time of signal beamforming. The multipath spatial profiles are decided the beamforming frequency band with minimize energy consumption. As part of the method, we used a conjugated beamforming with power optimization scheme to determine the individual antenna potential and fading channel condition, power optimization is performed. This method quality of service, reliability, energy consumption and data rate can all be evaluated by experimenting with different-sized antenna arrays such as 16×16, 32×32, 64×64 and 128×128.

Abstract

Future wireless networks are expected to face several issues, but cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (C-NOMA) is a promising technology that could help solve them by providing unprecedented levels of connection and system capacity. In this regard, the influence of the power location coefficient (PLC) for remote users adopting multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) and massive MIMO has been explored to provide effective performance. The goal of this study is to design fifth-generation (5G) downlink (DL) NOMA power domain (PD) networks with a variety of distances and PLCs for remote users and then to compare their outage probability (OP) performance versus signal to noise ratio (SNR). As a novel approach to improving OP performance rate and mitigating the influence of the PLC for remote users, DL C-NOMA is combined with 16×16, 32×23, and 64×64 MIMO and 128×128, 256×256, and 512×512 massive MIMO. The results were obtained that the 64×64 MIMO improves the OP for the remote user by 65.0E-03, while the 512×512 massive MIMO achieved an improvement that reaches 1.0E-06 for the PLC of 0.8 at SNR of 14 dB. The Rayleigh fading channels and MATLAB simulation tools were utilized to carry out the study work.

Abstract

Mesh-based 3-dimensional (3D) shape generation from a 2-dimensional (2D) image using a convolution neural network (CNN) framework is an open problem in the computer graphics and vision domains. Most existing CNN-based frameworks lack robust algorithms that can scale well without combining different shape parts. Also, most CNN-based algorithms lack suitable 3D data representations that can fit into CNN without modification(s) to produce high-quality 3D shapes. This paper presents an approach that integrates a variational autoencoder (VAE) and a generative adversarial network (GAN) called 3 dimensional variational autoencoder signed distance function generative adversarial network (3D-VAE-SDFGAN) to create a 3D shape from a 2D image that considerably improves scalability and visual quality. The proposed method only feeds a single 2D image into the network to produce a mesh-based 3D shape. The network encodes a 2D image of the 3D object into the latent representations, and implicit surface representations of 3D objects corresponding to those 2D images are subsequently generated. Hence, a signed distance function (SDF) is proposed to maintain object inside-outside information in the implicit surface representation. Polygon mesh surfaces are then produced using the marching cubes algorithm. The ShapeNet dataset was used in the experiments to evaluate the proposed 3D-VAE-SDFGAN. The experimental results show that 3D-VAE-SDFGAN outperforms other state-of-the-art models.
