Abstract

Nowadays, the electricity demand is increasing day by day and hence it is very important not only to extract electrical energy from all possible new power resources but also to reduce power losses to an acceptable minimum level in the existing distribution networks where a large amount of power dissipation occurred. In Myanmar, a lot of power is remarkably dissipated in distribution system.  Among methods in reducing power losses, network reconfiguration method is employed for loss minimization and exhaustive technique is also applied to achieve the minimal loss switching scheme. Network reconfiguration in distribution systems is performed by opening sectionalizing switches and closing tie switches of the network for loss reduction and voltage profile improvement. The distribution network for existing and reconfiguration conditions are modelled and simulated by Electrical Transient Analyzer Program (ETAP) 7.5 version software. The inputs are given based on the real time data collected from 33/11kV substations under Yangon Electricity Supply Board (YESB). The proposed method is tested on 110-Bus, overhead AC radial distribution network of Dagon Seikkan Township since it is long-length, overloaded lines and high level of power dissipation is occurred in this system. According to simulation results of load flow analysis, voltage profile enhancement and power loss reduction for proposed system are revealed in this paper.

Abstract

The optimal reactive power dispatch is a kind of optimization problem that plays a very important role in the operation and control of the power system. This work presents a meta-heuristic based approach to solve the optimal reactive power dispatch problem. The proposed approach employs Crow Search algorithm to find the values for optimal setting of optimal reactive power dispatch control variables. The proposed way of approach is scrutinized and further being tested on the standard IEEE 30-bus, 57-bus and 118-bus test system with different objectives which includes the minimization of real power losses, total voltage deviation and also the enhancement of voltage stability. The simulation results procured thus indicates the supremacy of the proposed approach over the other approaches cited in the literature.

Abstract

The increasing trends of image processing applications play a very crucial role in the modern-day information propagation with the ease of cost effectiveness. As image transmission or broadcasting is the simplest form communication which determines easy, fastest and effective way of network resource utilization, thereby since past one decade it has gained significant attention among various research communities. As most of the image attributes often contains visual entities corresponding to any individual, hence, exploration and forging of such attributes with malicious intention often leads to social and personal life violation and also causes intellectual property right violation when social media, matrimonial and business applications are concerned. Although an extensive research effort endeavored pertaining to image forensics in the past, but existing techniques lack effectiveness towards maintaining equilibrium in between both image forensics and image quality assessment performances from computational viewpoint. Addressing this limitation associated with the existing system, this proposed study has come up with a novel solution which achieves higher degree of image forensics without compromising the visual perception of an image. The study formulates an intelligent empirical framework which determines cost-effective authentication of an image object from both complexity and quality viewpoint. Finally, the study also presented a numerical simulation outcome to ensure the performance efficiency of the system.

Abstract

The availability of the electricity in doing a job lead to a dependency on it. If there is a sudden failure on electricity, it will result in unfinished works. To overcome the undesired situation because of wasting time, it is advisable to have your power supply. The power supply can serve to replace electricity temporarily, or it could be as a replacement for power supply of PLN’s (State Electricity Company) electricity nets to meet the daily electricity needs. Backup power available can sufficiently replace the source of PLN’s electricity nets with the output of square wave to the ordinary electricity needs. The type of the intended power supply is inverter system as a backup system that supplies daily electricity. In this case, it aims to change the DC (direct current) to AC (alternating current) voltages.

Abstract

In this paper, a new closed loop hybrid phase shift control is proposed for dual active bridge (DAB) converter with variable input voltage. The extended phase shift (EPS) control is applied when load gets heavy enough and the secondary side phase shift angle decreases to zero. When this modified DAB converter operates at light loads, the triple phase shift (TPS) modulation method is applied, and the added control freedom is the secondary phase shift angle between the two-secondary side switching legs. The hybrid phase shift control (HPS) scheme is a combination of EPS and TPS modulations, and it provides a very simple closed form implementation for the primary and secondary side phase shift angles. Depending on the application by changing the phase shift angles we can achieve Buck or Boost operation. A characteristic table feedback control method has been used for closed loop operation. By using 1D look up table the proposed DAB converter provides constant 400V for any given input voltage.

Abstract

This paper introduces computer aided analysis system for diagnosis of liver abnormality in abdominal CT images. Segmenting the liver and visualizing the region of interest is a most challenging task in the field of cancer imaging, due to small observable changes between healthy and unhealthy liver. In this paper, hybrid approach for automatic extraction of liver contour is proposed. To obtain optimal threshold, the proposed work integrates segmentation method with optimization technique in order to provide better accuracy. This method uses bilateral filter for preprocessing and Fuzzy C means clustering (FCM) for segmentation. Mean Grey Wolf Optimization technique (mGWO) has been used to get the optimal threshold. This threshold is used for segmenting the region of interest. From the segmented output, largest connected region are identified using Label Connected Component (LCC) algorithm. The effectiveness of proposed method is quantitatively evaluated by comparing with ground truth obtained from radiologists. The performance criteria like dice coefficient, true positive error and misclassification rate are taken for evaluation.

Abstract

In this paper an IEEE standard test system is considered and it is tested using Newton-Raphson method with the help of MATLAB. The voltage magnitudes of each bus are examined and the corresponding weak bus is incorporated with FACTS such as SVC and TCSC. The optimal placement of FACTS can be identified using L-Index method. The value of L-index which approach unity implies that it reaches to instability. From this instability point the system stability is improved during steady state and Fault conditions. The disturbance is created in the system by changing the Load Reactive Power at a particular Bus.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v4i2.5136

Abstract

An effective video surveillance system is highly essential in order to ensure constructing better form of video analytics. Existing review of literatures pertaining to video analytics are found to directly implement algorithms on the top of the video file without much emphasis on following problems i.e. i) dynamic orientation of subject, ii)poor illumination condition, iii) identification and classification of subjects, and iv) faster response time. Therefore, the proposed system implements an analytical concept that uses depth-image of the video feed along with the original colored video feed to apply an algorithm for extracting significant information about the motion blob of the dynamic subjects. Implemented in MATLAB, the study outcome shows that it is capable of addressing all the above mentioned problems associated with existing research trends on video analytics by using a very simple and non-iterative process of implementation. The applicability of the proposed system in practical world is thereby proven.

Abstract

Simulated Annealing algorithm (SA) is a well-known probabilistic heuristic. It mimics the annealing process in metallurgy to approximate the global minimum of an optimization problem. The SA has many parameters which need to be tuned manually when applied to a specific problem. The tuning may be difficult and time-consuming. This paper aims to overcome this difficulty by using a self-tuning approach based on a machine learning algorithm called Hidden Markov Model (HMM). The main idea is allowing the SA to adapt his own cooling law at each iteration, according to the search history. An experiment was performed on many benchmark functions to show the efficiency of this approach compared to the classical one.
