Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the elasticity of the floor grain price policy on domestic rice production. The analysis uses two stage least square regression. The study used secondary data from 1982 to 2013, which came from: BULOG, Ministry of Agriculture, BPS, and FAO. Research unit is Indonesian territory. The study concluded that the floor grain price has a significant positive effect on rice production with an elasticity of 0.034 in the short term and, 0.524 in the long term. This means that changes in the floor grain price in explaining domestic rice production are not elastic in the short term but are more elastic in the long run.

Abstract

Age data collected through census or survey often experience errors, especially in reporting age data (age missreporting) related to the selection of certain numbers (digit preference) which are usually ages that end with the number 0 (zero) or 5 (five). The existence of this preference digit which results in the age distribution becoming enlarged or accumulated on the numbers ending with 0 and 5, which in demography is known as age-heaping. Evaluation of the quality of age data from the results of the 2010 Population Census in this study focused more on data on the number of deaths by age is very necessary. This data will be evaluated using the Whipple Index (IW) and Myers (IM) Index. The technique of smoothing local polynomials in non-parametric regression with IW and IM resulted in the conclusion that there was age heaping in the data that became the object of this study so that data needs to be smoothed with local polynomial techniques.

Abstract

Differences in managing the resources and capabilities of the regions in various districts/cities in Java has led to differences in development. Some of the problems in these resources are as follows: 1) flypaper effect on local government capital expenditure 2) labor with low education that is not absorbed in the work 3) Foreign Direct Investment concentrated in certain areas. This study aims to analyze comparison effect of govenrment capital expenditure, labor with less than or equal to high school graduates, labor with more than or equal to diploma 1 graduates, and foreign capital on economic growth between type classification of district/city in Java Island. Type classification of district/city was determined by tipologi klassen analysis. This study use a regresion panel data Fixed Effect Model cross section weight with robust coefficient covariance cross section SUR (PCSE). The research concludes that government capital expenditure and foreign capital have a significant and positive impact on economic growth in type 1 district/city (income per capita and economic growth above median) and type 4 (income per capita and economic growth below median). Labor with more than or equal to diploma 1 graduates have a significant and positive impact on economic growth in type 1 district/city (income per capita and economic growth above median). Labor with less than or equal to highschool graduates have not a significant impact on economic growth in every type classification of district/city.

Abstract

Lifestyle that high risk to health is smoking behavior. Smoking behavior has a negative impact on health, both for active smokers and passive smokers. In addition there are also negative impacts in terms of economy. In Bandung, spending on cigarettes ranks second after the food commodity. The number of cigarettes smoked each day is influenced by demographic variables, social environment variables, political variables, and cultural variables. In this study, the Bandung cigarette consumption and the factors suspected to affect, ie sex, age, work status, and education, will be modeled by Hurdle-NB regression. The results showed that Log model, age variable, work status, and education influence to the average of cigarette consumption. While on Logit model, gender variable, age, work status, and education have an effect on the tendency of someone to smoke or not.

Abstract

Generally, economic growth of West Java has increased . However, the increase rates are different in each regions with one of the causes is the existence of economic concetration because of industrial agglomeration. This study analyze the phenomenon of industrial agglomeration and its effect to economic growth of West Java also the determinants of economic growth. Based on Cobb-Douglas function, fix effect model is used for spatial panel regression method that cover 26 regions in 5 years periods (2010-2014). Independent variables used are industrial agglomeration, infrastructure, human capital, capital, and labour with dependet variable is economic growth of West Java. The result shows that there are 8 regions that are agglomerated industrially. Meanwhile, human capital has the biggest elasticity. The characteristic of West Java’s economy is labour-intensive, with labour elasticity is higher than capital elasticity. Furthermore, infrastructure also has positive and significant influence to economic growth. In short, all of independent variables have positive and significant effect towards economic growth of West Java. Therefore, the enhancement of human quality and infrastructure must be improved so the economic growth can increase more.

Abstract

Raising regional economy is one of the goals of economic development. Measuring regional gap, the Williamson index shows the coefficient of variation of GRDP per capita. This study used a first-difference GMM (FD-GMM) dynamic panel data analysis to calculate per capita GRDP convergence, as well as the determinants, with and without educational variable. The result of this paper shows the existence the sigma convergence and the convergence of per capita GRDP among regions in Central Java. Per capita GRDP of regions in Central Java is significantly influenced by per capita GRDP in previous year, education, worked population and the amount of as a proxy for regional capital variable.
