Abstract

Disharmony in the parental relationship that leads to a broken home causes poor psychological well-being of students because they are in a stressful condition to adapt to their environment. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of logotherapy counseling with a dereflection technique to improve the psychological well-being of broken home students in tenth grade. It involved 12 students and was done in 5 sessions. Here, an experimental research method with pretest-posttest design was employed, while the data were analyzed using a Wilcoxon analysis. Findings revealed the improvement in the psychological well-being of broken home students after receiving the logotherapy counseling with a dereflection technique. Thus, counselors are suggested to implement logotherapy counseling with a dereflection technique to improve the psychological well-being of broken home students.

Abstract

Vocational identity is a foundation in career decision making. It is a developmental process which covers choosing, entering, and progressing education and occupation. In relation to this, the present study attempted to examine the effectiveness of career group counseling with modeling technique to enhance vocational identity and career decision making of MAN 1 students in Semarang City. It used an experimental method with pretest-posttest control group design by involving 14 students whose vocational identity and career decision making were low until medium as the subjects. Based on Wilcoxon Signed Rank and Mann-Whitney tests, the intervention of group counseling with modeling technique could increase the vocational identity and career decision making of MAN 1 students in Semarang City. Further study implication.

Abstract

The anxiety experienced by the students of SMK NU Hasyim Asy’ari Tarub potentially resulted in maladaptive behavior and disrupted examination preparation. Therefore, the present study strived for examining the effectiveness of group counseling with self-management technique to improve self-efficacy and reduce the anxiety of the ninth grade or class XI students in that school. Here, 20 students were involved as the subjects of this study by using a randomized pretest posttest control group design. Based on the results of paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test, this group counseling has been effective to improve the efficacy. Also, the paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test concluded that this intervention could reduce students’ academic anxiety. Finally, this study recommends the use of self-management technique to improve self-efficacy and reduce the academic anxiety of students

Abstract

Forgiveness is a positive attitude that helps transgender people to live their lives as a minority in a common society. Thus, this study was focused on determining the meaning of transgender people forgiveness and its implication for guidance and counseling. The study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenology design and obtained data from komunitas pewaris (transgender people community in Semarang City) represented by three people. Once the data were collected, interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) was carried out. Findings indicated that the forgiveness in transgender people was caused by a series of events, such as regret, self-mediation, and emotional control. Moreover, individuals’ perception was found significant in transgender people forgiveness.

Abstract

Many social media users experience low Body Image Satisfaction (BIS) that results in anxiety, decrease in self-confidence, decrease in self-esteem, depression, and the drive to be thin. This study attempted to examine the effectiveness of CBT counseling with a self-talk technique to improve the BIS of students with social media addiction tendencies. It used a one group pretest-posttest design and involved 6 students whose data were collected using the instruments of body image satisfaction and social media addiction. Findings showed that the CBT group counseling with a self-talk technique has been effective to improve the BIS of students with social media addiction tendencies. Thus, counselors are recommended to implement the intervention of CBT group counseling with a self-talk technique to improve BIS, especially in senior high school students. Further studies are suggested to use a qualitative design to discover the impact of low BIS.

Abstract

Most of toxic online disinhibition perpretrators see their behavior as a means of fulfilling basic needs related to fun and freedom. However, it is a negative thing since it contradicts the principles of right, responsibility, and reality. Regarding these issues, the present study strived for examining the effectiveness of reality group counseling with confrontation and being-positive techniques to reduce toxic online disinhibition behavior. It involved 18 students chosen using a purposive sampling technique and grouped into three randomly in which each consisted of six students. Their data were collected using a toxic online disinhibition scale. Based on the results of mixed ANOVA statistical test, there laid the effect of time towards the reduction of toxic online disinhibition, namely (F (1.10, 16.558) = 317.66, p<0.01). The group effect on the reduction of online toxic disinhibition was also significant (F(2, 15) = 3.96, p<0.05). In terms of time interaction, the effect result was (F (2.21, 16.558) = 21.48, p<0.01). Thus, the findings of this study have confirmed that the group with the mixed techniques gained the highest effectiveness among the other groups. Finally, the study also serves interesting implications and suggestions to consider in the practice of reality group counseling.

Abstract

Self-esteem is a crucial part of mental health, especially in self-acceptance. Low self-esteem is said to be a risk factor for the mental health issue development, including depression, antisocial, and low academic achievement. This study strived for examining the effectiveness of group counseling with assertive training and positive reinforcement techniques to improve students’ self-esteem. It was a quasi-experimental study with the factorial design 2x2. The study collected the data from 12 counseling sessions in group A, B, and C with the time allotment of 45 minutes for each. Self-esteem scale (SES) was the instrument used in this study. Based on Wilcoxon test, the assertiveness training positive reinforcement, and the combination of those techniques obtained similar intensity (correlated sample). In addition, the results of Two-Way ANOVA test have proved that the combination technique was the best treatment. The findings of this study can be a cognitive map for identifying students’ low self-esteem and their management on an ongoing basis.

Abstract

This study strived for exploring the institutional support to the implementation of guidance and counseling services. Online guidance and counseling services during COVID-19 pandemic requires practical mastery of information technology systems and gives big challenges for counselors’ roles and technological advancement mastery as well as professionalism. That is why guidance and counseling services need institutional support to get its maximum results. Here, this study used a survey design in form of cross-sectional and involved 333 participants, namely guidance and counseling teachers at Public Vocational Schools (SMK Negeri) in Semarang City. Those respondents were sampled using a simple random sampling technique, while their data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Further, it is concluded that the support given by the schools to the implementation of counseling services during COVID-19 pandemic at SMK Negeri throughout Semarang City is considered fair and not yet maximum.

Abstract

Career exploration is important for students to build greater awareness of the kinds of career information. This study aimed to identify and analyze the impact of authoritative parenting on career exploration mediated by career decision making self-efficacy and analyzed Vocational High School students (SMK Negeri) in Tasikmalaya City As many as 370 students of class X, XI, and XII chosen using a cluster random sampling technique. Their data were collected using parental authority questionnaire, career exploration survey, career decision self-efficacy (short form) instruments. Findings indicated a positive relationship between authoritative parenting and career exploration mediated by career decision self-efficacy. Seeing the mediating effects of career decision self-efficacy on authoritative parenting and career exploration, it can be concluded that there is a partial mediation. Further implications of this study are presented in the discussion chapter.

Abstract

Academic procrastination has negative impact on the decline in students’ academic achievement. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of behavioral group counseling with self-management and token economy techniques to reduce the academic procrastination of students at SMA Negeri 12 Semarang. It was an experimental study which used randomized pretest-posttest comparison group design and involved 14 grade eleven students chosen purposively of 429 people. The subjects were then grouped into two, namely one group received a self-management technique, and another one received a token economy technique for 4 sessions for each. Findings showed that both techniques were effective to reduce the academic procrastination of the students at SMA Negeri 12 Semarang, while each technique contributed equal impact. The interesting thing from the results of this study was that attention disorder became the most influential aspect in shaping academic procrastination in students.
