Abstract

Automatic generation control (AGC) is major issue in power system whose main purpose is to maintain the frequency and tie line power flow during normal period in an interconnected system. . Thus, It is the responsibility of the Power system engineers to ensure that adequate power is delivered to the load reliably and economically so that nominal condition will be re-established The main focus is to maintain the value of frequency in its prescribed limit. We use renewable source which are important as well as non renewable sources at the level of extinct. As renewable alone cannot reliable then we use interconnection of both for making the system reliable and more efficient. This research paper is devoted to explore the interconnection of the automatic generation control of hydro power system and wind system. The wind system is comprised with governor dead band, generation rate constraint and turbine dynamics where as the hydro system is comprised with generation rate constraint. The traditional PI controller does not have adequate control performance with the consideration of nonlinearities and turbine dynamics. To overcome this drawback, PID controllers helps in solving optimization problems by exploitation of random search. It will provide the system security also for maintain the frequency in prescribed limit with the help of simulation.

Abstract

This paper proposes an improved methodology to minimize the cogging torque, harmonics and torque ripples in Brushless DC (BLDC) motor. The cogging torque is reduced by designing the BLDC motor with bifurcated active surface area using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The harmonics and torque ripple is minimized using PI and Fuzzy controllers. These controllers are analyzed to bring out an optimal solution. The effectiveness and flexibility of the individual techniques of proposed control method is verified through simulations [Matlab Simulink]. The experimental result is shown only for fuzzy control because fuzzy is better comparing the performance of PI controllers.

Abstract

This paper presents a development of Acoustic energy transfer (AET) system through the air medium by implementing a Multiple Input-Multiple Output (MIMO) arrangement of transducers to transmit energy. AET system allows power to be transmitted without wire connection. The MIMO system is proposed in this paper to increase the efficiency of the transmitting power by multiplying the received power. The simulation and experimental works are carried out using a Class E power converter and the obtained results are analyzed accordingly. Based on the experimental results, the 18.57mW output power is obtained at 40kHz operating frequency when triple transducer is used. It  contributes to 30.96% efficiency to the power transfer system.

Abstract

This paper explains about an intelligent control method for the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of a photo voltaic system with different temperature and insolation conditions. This method uses a fuzzy logic controller applied to a DC-DC converter. The different steps of the design of this controller are presented together with its simulation and the feasibility of control methods to be adopted for the operation of a micro grid when it becomes isolated. Normally, the micro grid operates in interconnected mode with the medium voltage network; however, scheduled or forced isolation can take place. In such conditions, the micro grid must have the ability to operate stably and autonomously. An evaluation of the need of storage devices and load to take off strategies is included in this paper. The MPPT of a photovoltaic system for Micro Grid operaion using a Fuzzy logic control scheme is successfully designed and simulated by using MATLAB/Simulink Software.

Abstract

Single-phase induction generator is very suitable to be used in the typical loads which only need a single-phase power supply with small power capacity requirement, such as diesel engine, picohydro or small wind plant. It has some advantages such as rugged, effective cost, maintenance free and require no external excitation. However, it has inductive characteristic which makes poor voltage regulation. This paper proposed a shunt reactive compensator called SVC-MERS which can provide a variable reactive power to maintain the generator voltage despite of load variations. The experiment was conducted on single-phase two winding induction generator coupled by a three-phase induction motor which serves as the prime mover. SVC-MERS and the load are connected in shunt to the main winding, while the excitation capacitor was connected to the auxiliary winding. The experimental results showed that SVC-MERS can improve voltage regulation and substantially enhanced steady state loading limit.

Abstract

This paper presents a study of the Doubly Fed Induction Machine (DFIM) powered by two matrix converters; one connected to the stator windings and the other connected to the rotor windings. First, the mathematical model of DFIM and those of the matrix converters are developed. Then, the vector control technique is applied to the DFIM. Fuzzy logic is used in order to automatically adjust the parameters of the PI controller. The performance of this structure under different operating conditions is studied. Particular interest is given to the robustness of the fuzzy logic based control. The operation of the DFIM under overload conditions is also examined.  Simulation results obtained in MATLAB/Simulink environment are presented and discussed.

Abstract

In this paer, the suggested topologies are gained by cascading a full bridge inverter with dissimilar DC sources. This topology has a several new patterns adopting the fixed switching frequency, multicarrier control freedom degree with mixture conceptions are established and simulated for the preferred three-phase cascaded multilevel inverter. In outstanding switching arrangement terminations, there are convinced degrees of freedom to produce the nine level AC output voltages with terminated switching positions for producing altered output voltages. These investigations focus on asymmetrical cascaded multilevel inverter engaging with carrier overlapping pulse width modulation (PWM) topologies. These topologies offer less amount of harmonics present in the output voltage and superior root mean square (RMS) values of the output voltages associated with the traditional sinusoidal pulse width modulation. This research studies carries with it MATLAB/SIMULINK based simulation and experimental results obtained using appropriated prototype to prove the validity of the proposed concept.

Abstract

This paper discusses the Power Factor Correction (PFC) for single phase ACDC Buck-Boost Converter (BBC) operated in Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) using inductor average current mode control. The proposed control technique employs Proportional-Integral (PI) controller in the outer voltage loop and the Inductor Average Current Mode Control (IACMC) in the inner current loop for PFC BBC. The IACMC has advantages such as robustness when there are large variations in line voltage and output load. The PI controller is developed by using state space average model of BBC. The simulation of the proposed system with its control circuit is implemented in MatLab/Simulink. The simulation results show a nearly unity power factor can be attained and there is almost no change in power factor when the line frequency is at various ranges. Experimental results are provided to show its validity and feasibility. Keyword

Abstract

This paper aims to ensure a stability and observability of doubly fed induction generator DFIG of a wind turbine based on the approach of fuzzy control type T-S PDC (Parallel Distributed Compensation) which determines the control laws by return state and fuzzy observers. First, the fuzzy TS model is used to precisely represent a nonlinear model of DFIG proposed and adopted in this work. Then, the stability analysis is based on the quadratic Lyapunov function to determine the gains that ensure the stability conditions. The fuzzy observer of DFIG is built to estimate non-measurable state vectors and the estimated states converging to the actual statements. The gains of observatory and of stability are obtained by solving a set of linear matrix inequality (LMI). Finally, numerical simulations are performed to verify the theoretical results and demonstrate satisfactory performance.

Abstract

Rapid increase of consumers in electronics devices and the use of mains rectification circuits inside these electronic devices is the root cause of mains harmonic distortion. Automatic power factor correction techniques can be applied to the industries, power systems and households to make them stable inturns increases the efficiency of system as well as the apparatus. This paper deals with the hardware design of active power factor correction circuit employing boost converter which is used to boost the DC voltages with a controller based on PID control strategy. The pulses given to power switches by pulse width modulation techniques generated by utilizing micro-controller board, Arduino thus obviating the need of complex hardware circuitry. MATLAB/SIMULINK was used to design and tune the PID controller parameters. The simulation results are matching with the predictions and the same was implemented as hardware. The waveforms various test points and across capacitors were obtained, studied and compared with the theoretical waveforms and are found to be in precise proximity of theoretical waveforms.
