Abstract

In this paper, support vector machine (SVM) and fuzzy based feedback harmonic elimination technique is proposed. The proposed technique is to overcome the drawbacks of control rule selection of fuzzy logic. Here, the feedback error voltage and change of error voltage of the load is applied as the input of fuzzy logic. The Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) builds the logical rules; it depends on the input error voltage and change of error voltage. From the fuzzy rules, the basic SVM takes a set of input data and predicts optimum switching angle and frequency, for each given input. Then, the selected switching angle and frequency is applied to multilevel inverter and the harmonics of the system is eliminated. The proposed method is implemented in MATLAB/simulink working platform and the harmonic elimination performance is demonstrated by the comparison of Neuro Fuzzy Controller (NFC) and Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Interference System (ANFIS).DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijpeds.v3i3.4314

Abstract

The use of a new control method for grid-connected inverters for reducing the output current harmonic distortion in a wide range of grid-connected distributed generation (DG) applications, including wind turbine (WT) and fuel cell (FC) inverters is proposed in this paper. The control method designed to eliminate main harmonics in a microgrid (MG) and between MG and point of common coupling (PCC) and responsible for the correction of the system unbalance. Another advantage of the proposed control method is that it can be easily adopted into the DG control system without the installation of extra hardware. The proposed control method is comprised of the synchronous reference frame method (SRF). Results from the proposed control method are provided to show the feasibility of the proposed approach.

Abstract

Miniature Aerial Vehicles with four rotors is called Quad-rotor MAV, popularly used in aspects of life such military, civilian products, processes and remote sensor, etc. In this paper, the authors present the suitable structure of control system for the Quad-rotor MAV. The first, the Six Degrees of Freedom (6 DOF) of the Quad-rotor MAV dynamic model is built. After, the control structure with the single loop is built. But in the single-loop system, only four control signals of Quad-rotor MAV can be controlled, so the Quad-rotor MAV can be reached the height only and keep the stability. However, it is important to note that we have to well-known the orbit of the Quad-rotor MAV flight; the Quad-rotor MAV must fly point-to-point exactly, so the six coordinate variables must be controlled. So, the double loop control structure system is proposed to do that. Finally, the simulation results analysis and the experimental results of the real model are explored to prove the effectiveness of the proposed structure.

Abstract

Regardless its significant potential for generating renewable energy, Moroccan government prohibited the injection of production surplus into the low voltage (LV) network because it still lack the implementing decreases, that represents one of the principal challenges for residential self-production in the country. The focus of this paper work is to introduce and analyze a novel fast MPPT strategy applied in an improved grid-connected Residential PV system respecting the current legislative framework in Morocco, which allow to the consumer being an actor in the energy transition towards a low-carbon society by reducing his dependence to the electrical grid and managing his own energy consumption efficiently by a good switching between photovoltaic (PV) source and the grid and therefore making a framework of smart residence management system. The overall system is designed to improve the energy control performance with two techniques: the first one uses a novel high performance controller to track the maximum power point (MPP) of a photovoltaic array under fast irradiation and load changes. Among the advantages of this proposed controller is the stability of its output voltage with fast response speed to the required parameters. The second one uses a Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuit to ensure the power quality regulation in the grid side via a predictive current control method. Finally, the stability of a closed-loop system is simulated and analyzed using commercial software offering sufficient conditions to validate a practical stability and robustness of the proposed overall designed system.

Abstract

In this paper we explore the feasibility of applying multi objective stochastic optimization algorithms to the optimal design of switching DC-DC converters, in this way allowing the direct determination of the Pareto optimal front of the problem. This approach provides the designer, at affordable computational cost, a complete optimal set of choices, and a more general insight in the objectives and parameters space, as compared to other design procedures. As simple but significant study case we consider a low power DC-DC hybrid control buck converter. Its optimal design is fully analyzed basing on a Matlab public domain implementations for the considered algorithms, the GODLIKE package implementing Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Simulated Annealing (SA). In this way, in a unique optimization environment, three different optimization approaches are easily implemented and compared. Basic assumptions for the Matlab model of the converter are briefly discussed, and the optimal design choice is validated “a-posteriori” with SPICE simulations.

Abstract

Stand-alone photovoltaic (SAPV) systems are being used in remote areas and are being seen as one of the promising solution in this regard. The SAPV system as presented in the paper consists of solar PV panel, a DC-DC converter, a controller and a PMDC motor. The current-voltage and power-voltage characteristics being nonlinear, the SAPV system require maximum power point techniques (MPPT) control techniques to extract maximum power available from the PV cell. A voltage based MPPT technique which is capable of tracking MPP has been selected because of numerous advantages it offers such as: simple and low cost of implementation. The limitation of constant voltage method is that its efficiency is low as the PV panel has to be disconnected from the load for measurement of the open circuit voltage (Voc). In the presented paper, the authors have removed this limitation by using a pilot PV panel for measurement of Voc. A proportional-integrator (PI) based controller is used in implementation of constant voltage MPP technique and the modeling is done in MATLAB®/SIMULINK simulation environment. The simulation results are presented and discussed in the paper, the results shows that the efficiency of the system has increased.

Abstract

Now a days there is a widespread use of  semiconductor devices, which are mostly implemented as the power switches for converters and inverters. These converters and inverters play a vital role in power systems both in transmission and distribution systems. This provides a way for the introduction of harmonics in the power system which leads to poor power quality. To overcome this many solutions have been suggested by the research community but each solution holds its own merits and demerits. Of all these suggested solutions, the Dynamic Voltage Restorer is one of the most cost effective systems for various power quality issues. In this paper the DVR is considered for enhancing the power quality by reducing the harmonics generated because of sensitive loads. Here the power quality is enhanced by controlling the DVR using Neural Network Controller which is trained by Levenberg Marquardt algorithm. In this paper the THD analysis of the voltage quantity is analysed by introducing an unbalanced three phase fault in the system. The simulation is done by using MATLAB/Simulink. From the results, it is verified that the harmonics are reduced by the NN controlled DVR unit. Also the simulation results are verified with the hardware results.

Abstract

This paper illustrates a portable domestic locker security system which is based on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) technology. A handcrafted low-cost touch sensitive box is designed (using Vero board) for the project which is one of the most attractive features of the system. The system will operate in a way that if there is any unexpected user, tries to touch any portion of the touch sensitive box, a feedback system will be turned on immediately. The feedback system will alert the property holder about the unexpected user by sending SMS (Short Message Service) and turning on an alarm system. The alarm system will be turned off only if it receives a specific SMS from the property holder. This system not only has the advantages of high sensitivity, small size and lightweight, but also it is easy to use. This system is featured with an uncomplicated design, convenient use, strong flexibility and reliable performance. Since the circuit in the system is simple and easy to contrivance, the system can be installed without any difficulty at homes & offices. It will also provide a good security in the vehicles and Automated Teller Machine (ATM) booths.

Abstract

This paper presents a maximum power point (MPP) tracking method based on a hybrid combination between the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and the conventional Perturb-and-Observe (P&O) method. The proposed algorithm utilizes the FLC to initialize P&O algorithm with an initial duty cycle.  MATLAB/Simulink models consisting of, the photovoltaic system, boost converter and controllers, are built to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. To accurately illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithm, comparisons with standalone FLC and P&O are carried out. The performance of the proposed algorithm is investigated difficult weather conditions including sudden changes and partial shading. The results showed that the proposed algorithm successfully reaches MPP in all scenarios.
