Abstract

In this study, an experimental study has been conducted to determine the performance of the photovoltaic thermal- thermoelectric air collector (PVT-TE) hybrid system. Hybrid system consists of photovoltaic panel (PV) and thermoelectric modules (TEs) that can improve the energy efficiency of the system. The results of output temperature (To) and plate temperature (Tp) obtained from the experiment have been used to determine the performance of this hybrid system. Effect of mass flow rate and radiation intensity is also being investigated. Experimental studies were carried out at 0.02 kg/s and 0.09 kg/s which represent minimum and maximum of mass flow rate, and radiation intensities in the range of 268-922 W/m2.

Abstract

This paper presents the verification of soft switching condition for three-phase AC to DC current injection hybrid resonant converter (CIHRC) with wireless power transfer (WPT) function. Details on the operation of current injection technique with the lossless zero voltage switching (ZVS) condition on shaping the high power factor of supply current waveforms are presented. With a suitable high switching frequency operation, the proposed resonant converter is capable to operate with ZVS conditions, thus, allowing reduction in the size of inductive and magnetic components. Selected results are also presented to verify the lossless ZVS condition for three-phase AC-DC CIHRC with WPT function.

Abstract

Multilevel Inverters offers eminent solutions to high voltage high power applications due to the association of several devices in a series configuration. This is moderate because of getting superior quality voltage waveform when using multilevel inverters as compared to form two-level inverters. Most of the problems raised in this study are the restriction of many switching devices, which can afford high voltage are preferred in the inverter. Here, a novel multilevel inverter topology with no transformers, less number of switching devices and gate drive circuits are proposed. The proposed inverter topologies can valid more voltage levels with favorable advantages such as less number of switching devices and gate driving circuits and also reduce to humble size, agreeable voltage profile. In this paper multilevel converter fed BLDC drive with different voltage levels and simulation analysis is presented. The validity of the proposed three-phase 21-level multilevel inverter fed to BLDC motor drive scheme is verified through Matlab/Simulink Platform.

Abstract

This paper presents interval type-2 fuzzy logic (IT2FL) controller applied on a direct torque controlled (DTC) permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), using digital signal processing (DSP). The simulation of PMSM with space vector pulse widths modulation (SVPWM) inverter presented under several operating condition. To verify the simulation results a hard ware setup is prepared and tested at several operating conditions using dspace 1102 DSP model.  The experimental and simulation results are in agreement and the torque dynamic response is very rapid and the system achieves the steady state in a very short time.

Abstract

In this paper, a detailed comparative study about evaluating the single phase inverter performance based on selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation (SHE PWM) technique is presented. Set of nonlinear equations are derived, four groups of switching angles are calculated using the numerical iterative method of Newton-Raphson. These angles are representing the ideal solutions to eliminate the low order harmonics from inverter output voltage and load current. Inverter effectiveness is evaluated by comparing the performance based on SHE PWM and based on the conventional constant switching frequency PWM (CSF PWM) technique. Same parameters setting is selected with considering the constant switching frequency value for each case separately as equivalent to the number of switching angles. Moreover, different rated load powers are investigated to explain the merit of SHE PWM within high power applications. MATLAB / Simulink simulation results are clearly indicating the priority of the SHE PWM at all groups of calculated angles and at different load power as well.

Abstract

In this paper, an adaptive anti-windup control strategy for permanent magnet synchronous generator dedicated for wind energy conversion systems. The proposed control has the advantage to suppress the performance deterioration caused by the overshooting phenomenon, and optimize the controller gains using the particle swarm optimization algorithm. The scheme of the speed controller is implemented on field orientation control in the generator side converter. A simulation of the proposed scheme is carried out in SIMULINK-MATLAB in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the control against the saturation and the parameter optimization.

Abstract

This work presents investigation of passive filter performance on three-phase inverter with 180° conduction mode. The simulation model of the inverter is developed by using MATLAB/Simulink. The power circuit used Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) as switching device. The inverter is controlled by using bipolar Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) technique. The IGBT was set to 25 kHz for switching frequency (fs). Three types of passive filters which are LC, RC and PI filters are used to investigate the ability to remove the unwanted signal that occurred on the inverter. The result is analyzed based on the performances of output filter in term of Total Harmonic Distortion in voltage (THDv), current (THDi), shape of output voltage and current. The THD must be less than 5% at rated inverter output voltage or current by referring to IEC 61727 Standard. The passive filter is modeled in MATLAB/Simulink environment to study the characteristics and performance of the filters.

Abstract

For the up-coming generations of power-supply systems, the load located area power-supply sources are an effective one, in terms of our requirements: simplicity, integrity, battery-backup, etc. This could follow the Normalization of power factor & Reducing THD% values on input current, which makes us to add an essential to include a power-factor correction unit at supply side in these new typical topologies. This Proposed architecture presents an integrated battery manage system which can also offers PF correction along with Galvanic-Isolation of battery in a humble single structure. [3] The proposed scheme has the reliable characters like increased efficiency, compact circuit and reduced costs associated with a traditional standalone multiple-stages UPS with PFC. Abstract

In this paper, based on the combination of particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and neural network (NN), a new adaptive speed control method for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is proposed. Firstly, PSO algorithm is adopted to get the best set of weights of neural network controller (NNC) for accelerating the convergent speed and preventing the problems of trapping in local minimum. Then, to achieve high-performance speed tracking despite of the existence of varying parameters in the control system, gradient descent method is used to adjust the NNC parameters. The stability of the proposed controller is analyzed and guaranteed from Lyapunov theorem. The robustness and good dynamic performance of the proposed adaptive neural network speed control scheme are verified through computer simulations.
