Abstract

Editor in the publishing world has function to keep the consistency of story line and point of view. “Tanah Air Kita” is a book published by N.V. W. van Hoeve-Bandung that contain the work of local and foreign photographers since Dutch colonial rule until Indonesia’s independence. The research aims to discuss how the role of editor in producing a book that fits his vision about how Indonesia is supposed to be in a photo and how observers interpret.Using semiotic analysis based on the model spectator – operator–spectrum. Analysis is done by categorizing photo illustration in 4 parts, which are :nature beauty,technology-natural resources, how people work, political change, then cross-checked upon their stadium- punctum. Selected photos shows the vision of N.A. Douwes Dekker about his expectation towards Indonesia, as the new nation that wants to be reckoned in the world, according to the presences.

Abstract

The author's work in this project takes inspiration from many production processes that occur in space consumption. This author’s work is focused its idea on the question whether the form that become cornerstone for designing cities or spaces has impact that could be felt directly by its inhabitants. The context for this work is Southern Square (Alun-Alun Kidul), Yogyakarta. For author himself, Yogyakarta become appaling because its design, as a whole, based on the symettrical line which extends from Merapi Mountain to Indian Ocean. This is marked by the presence of Merapi Monument, located at the intersection of Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Margo Utomo. That symmetry axis symbolizes the philosophy or belief system of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta. The question that author try to raise is whether this symmetrical has direct impact physically and psychologically? Borrowing the traditional game called masangin that practiced everyday in Southern Square as artmaking method, author intend to test the presence of symmetrical both physically and psychologically in several places, those are Southern Square, Gasibu Bandung, and in footpath around Institut Teknologi Bandung buidings. With eyes blindfolded, author tried to make straight line thorugh those axis of symmetries.

Abstract

Like other cultures, batik has undergone many developments and changes. Batik Parang in particular has experienced it many times in different periods with a very long time span. From this period, we can see that batik parang have also experienced some ups and downs conditions, which not only caused by outside influences, but also can be caused by various influences from within his own culture. In a due process of change will produce a wide range of output that inevitably will influence directly a form of culture. These conditions also experienced by batik, especially batik parang in the process of developing and adapting to changes. As in batik parang, which evolved from court art, must be degraded into folk art. Batik in order to survive as a cultural form, should be able to adapt changes and sacrificed by decreasing its symbolic meanings to continued its existence in the future.

Abstract

Furniture has become one of the essential commodities in the country of Indonesia. It also influenced the design development on creative industries that currently appear. Uniqueness and originality of the visual aspect is an important factor in the design of furniture. Various creative methods become the hallmark or identity of the brand. Visual identity of furniture will be studied based on furniture as case study, from Artes Living as one of creative industries in Bandung. Pleasurable product used as main theoritical approach to find the visual identity. Visual narrative and ideology pleasure are the finding of the research, which become two main methods from Artes Living. The results of this research presented in qualitative approach to through design concept, design methods and visual character. It is expected that the design concept may become new ideas and provide inspiration and insight to young designers in the use of cultural elements in Indonesia.

Abstract

Keris is one of many traditional weapon in Indonesia which is believed has an aesthetic side along with its superstition power. Therefore, keris collector divided into two kinds, there are collectors who collecting keris for its aesthetic elements and there are collectors who collecting keris for its aesthetic and also for its superstition power elements. Nowadays, Indonesian people still believe in existance of keris superstition power. The superstition power believed has higher value than its phisical power, which is makes keris as a valuable things that worth to be worshiped by Indonesian people. The worships that Indonesian people do to keris because of their belief for its superstition power is an anthropological fetishism.

Abstract

The potential of jewelry Indonesia in the international high-end segment is Tulola Jewelry that resemble the culture of the archipelago through the inspiration of Balinese culture , thus successfully penetrate the world market .The purpose of this paper is first, Tulola jewelry to produce products worldwide . Secondly, Tulola jewelry inspired by the culture of Bali. Third, how to design visualization of Tulola Jewelry The method used is the qualitative approach to the study of iconography as identification, description and interpretation of icons based on the attributes of the marker .The end result of this research collaboration Tulola Jewelry is a traditional Indonesian jewelry with a modern twist , excellence Tulola Design Jewelry as jewelry Indonesia has a distinctive feature compared with jewelry from other countries . A blend of modern technology and traditional Balinese motifs make jewelry look artistic .
