Abstract

Fracture is the discontinuity of bone tissues according to their types and areas. Intervention for recovering fractured patients is done by using Levine theory. The objective of the research was to identify the influence of Levine conceptual model based-intervention on anxiety. The research used quasi-experimental method with equivalent control group design. The samples were 52 respondents, 26 of them were in the intervention group ad the other 26 of them were in the control group, taken by using consecutive sampling technique. The data were analyzed by using paired t-test and independent t-test. The result of the research showed that there the influence of Levine conceptual model based-intervention program on anxiety before and after the intervention at p-value=0.000 (p<0.05). There was the difference of this type of intervention from hospital standard nursing intervention at p-value = 0.000 (p<0.5). The conclusion that there was the influence of Levine conceptual model based-intervention program on anxiety. It is recommended that this type of nursing intervention be used as a part of independent nursing intervention to help handle on anxiety of fractured patients.

Abstract

Hypoglycemia is a condition characterized by measured blood sugar levels that are lower than normal values in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. The impact of hypoglycemia cause a decrease in peripheral tissue perfusion resulting in decreased consciousness. Hypoglycemia detection is useful to early detect of the symptoms of hypoglycemi, hence it could be treated quickly and accurately. The purpose of this study is to determine the related factors (age, knowledge, long-term of diabetes mellitus, and the availability of blood glucose measuring devices) with the ability to detect hypoglycemia in patients with diabetes mellitus tipe 2 at a provincial hospital of Banda Aceh. This study used a descriptive correlative design. The study population was all diabetes mellitus type 2 patients who experienced hypoglycemia who visited to the Endocrine Polyclinic at a provincial hospital in Banda Aceh in 2018 totaling 1,364. The sampling used in this study is a purposive sampling technique for 99 respondents. Data collection using a questionnaire in a Gutman scale totaling 25 statements. The questionnaire reliability tested used Cronbach alpha = 0.955. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test (α = 0.05). The results showed that no relationship between patient’s age with hypoglycemia detection ability (p=0.322), there was a relationship between knowledge with hypoglycemia detection ability (p=0.003), there was no relationship between long-term of diabetes mellitus with hipoglycemia detection ability (p=0.157), and there was a relationship between the availability of an independent glucose check (glucometer) with hypoglycemia detection ability (p=0.049). Based on the results, patient knowledge, availability of glukometer have a significantly affects on the ability to detect hypoglycemia. It is recommended to nurses in hospitals to increase knowledge of early detection of hypoglycemia in patients, education in using glucose check, and routine blood sugar checks in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Leukemia is a malignant disease that attacks the hematopoiesis system, causing uncontrolled blood cell proliferation. Quality of life is one indicator that can be used to see the welfare conditions of patients suffering from chronic diseases such as leukemia. This review literature aims to find out the factors that influence the quality of life of leukemia patients. Literature search through Google Scholar, EBSCO, Springer Link, Elsevier, Sage databases using keywords: factors, quality of life, leukemia. The journals taken have a range from 2018 to 2020, which are then filtered according to the inclusion criteria set by the author. The results of the review indicate that there are several factors that affect the quality of life in leukemia patients, namely the therapeutic treatment undertaken, the patient's environment, and the role of care giver. Proper management of leukemia patients will improve the quality of life of these patients, and vice versa.

Abstract

The inability of the heart to pump blood adequately accompanied by dyspnea causes people with heart failure to have physical limitations. These symptoms result in the patient being unable to perform self-care optimally, so they need help from others, especially family. This study aims to identify the description of motivation and family participation in the self-care of heart failure patients. The research design used was descriptive quantitative research with 152 respondents who were drawn by purposive sampling technique. The results showed 62.5% women, and aged between 40-59 years. Forms of family motivation are family care about the patient's illness, family acceptance of the patient's condition, and family assistance to a health service center. Family participation was divided into three, with the highest score being self-care management who contacted the doctor or nurse, and advised the family to take medication when symptoms appeared. Participate in self-care with an assessment of readiness to work, and follow given medication instructions. Then the maintenance of self-care, namely leaving the family to exercise control with a doctor or nurse, and treatment of patients so they don't drink, forget to drink using a medicine box.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is six main causes of death in the world. Diabetes mellitus that is not managed properly can run the risk of causing various long-term complications. Type 2 diabetes has a prevalence of 2 to 2.5 times more risk of heart disease accompanied by microvascular and macrovascular complications. Prevent various kinds of life-threatening complications in middle adulthood is to use the diabetes self management (DSM) approach. DSM desperately needs commitment to a very complex diabetes management regimen to achieve good glycemic control. This literature review aims to analyze factors affecting diabetes self management in type 2 diabetes in middle-age adult patients. The literature review used in this study uses journal related by searching in scientific-based databases, with keywords used middle-age adult - diabetes self-management - type 2 diabetes. Based on the literature results, several factors that can affect DSM in middle-aged adult patients include depression, self-efficacy, social support, and knowledge. Therefore, the importance of further research is to be able to see which factors are the most influential among the four factors, so that nurses can make plans to overcome these problems.

Abstract

Self-efficacy is an individual's assessment of the ability to complete a given task. Diabetes self-efficacy is required to improve the outcome of diabetes management. This study aims to assess the ability of self-efficacy in diabetic patients using Diabetes Management Self Efficacy (DMSE). The research design used is descriptive method. The study was conducted at the Internal Medicine Polyclinic of Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital Jakarta with 60 samples of type 2 diabetes patients using consecutive sampling technique. The measuring instruments used were demographic characteristics and Diabetes Management Self Efficacy (DSME). The results showed the characteristics of the respondents in the study were 57% women, the highest education was high school respondents (33%), the most complications were diabetic retinopathy (38%). Based on the mean age of type 2 diabetes respondents, namely 57.60 years, the average length of diabetes was 11.40 years, and the mean self-efficacy score was 59.0. Assessment of self-efficacy using DMSE can be used to assess self-efficacy in type 2 diabetes, so that it can make it easier for nurses to educate and counsel patients with type 2 diabetes related to self-efficacy so that it can improve selfmanagement in type 2 diabetes patients.
