Abstract

This study examines the determinants of Growth in Indonesia using time series data from the first quarter of 1980 to fourth quarter of 2000. The result of OLS regression model shows that labor, physical capital, human capital, openness, and an institutional factor give positive effects to economic growth in Indonesia. This finding supports the arguments presented by neo-classical economists. The effect of institutional variable (e.g. inflation), in particular, exhibit the intervention of the central bank and the government in inflation and economic growth. Since the estimators consist of autocorrelation, the stationary test is applied to test the integration degrees and co-integration methodology is adopted to examine the linear combination of selected variables. The Granger’s two step error correction model tells us that the short-run disequilibrium is divergent from time to time from the long-run equilibrium, with the moderate speed of divergence. However, at least the long-run OLS estimators are unbiased, consistent, and asymptotically normally distributed.

The research indicates that net buying selling forces by foreign investors and the fund transfer during transaction will affect the foreign exchange rate (USD to IDR). The study argues the increasing rate of net buying selling also increase the volatility of exchange rate. Using TARCH model, the research found significant result that supported the argument. The research also test the robustness of data using stationary test. Therefore, the result statistically hold and TARCH model plus AR (1) also hold during the analysis.

Abstract

The increasing of fund had followed the investment bank growth between 1990-1997. Different type of institution also has different loan pricing between commercial bank and investment bank. Basically their differences depend on several factors like these: sources of fund, government rules, borrower’s relationship, market share, and accounting principles. The aims of this research purpose are testing the differences loan pricing between commercial bank and investment bank before crises period. Variables use in this research is types of bank institution, loan duration, loan amount, collateral, and listing Borrowers Company. Controlling variables are industry and term of loan contract. The testing is also for the level of asymmetry information by listed and non-listed borrowers, versus foreign and domestic lenders. For statistic inferential test is using by Ordinary Least Squares regression with white correction heteroscedasticity. Data collection comes from Dealscan database support by LPC (Loan Pricing Corporation). Meanwhile, the data sampling are before crises start from 1990 until 1997. Finally this research result has proven there are any differences between commercial bank and investment bank borrowing. Therefore, commercial bank more focus on lender come from and investment bank more serious attention to borrower’s types. The commercial bank get better than investment bank, even both of them still only look at the general factors, for instance; maturity, collateral, and borrowing types .

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the existence of bias in beta values in the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) that is a developing capital market and have a significant number of stocks that illiquid. Therefore, the measurement of beta is likely bias. The existence of bias beta values is caused by nonsynchronous trading. This study replicates the previous study from Hartono and Surianto (2000). It uses 88 samples of listing firms in the JSX from January 1997 until March 2002. The hypothesis testing concludes that during the-interval period beta values in the JSX are bias. The bias of beta values can be corrected with Scholes-Williams model, Dimson model, and Fowler-Rorke model. The Fowler-Rorke model gives the best result to reduce the bias than others.
